Chapter 72: Why Can't It Be You?
Chapter 72: Why Can't It Be You?
After leaving the Forbidden Forest, Fred and George finally resigned themselves to their fate, giving up their struggle, but they still couldn't help but complain about Kyle's wasteful behavior.
"There's still a lot left, and we've wasted at least a Galleon."
Fred held the hem of his robe, using it as a large pocket, filled with a small mountain of silver "Moonlight Sand."
George, standing next to him, had the same appearance, making them look like two large bags.
Kyle didn't say much, just grunted in response a couple of times.
He was truly exhausted, and now it was quite late. The initial excitement of seeing the Mooncrazed Beast dancing had worn off, and the fatigue from staying up all night was setting in.
All he wanted now was to return to the dormitory and sleep comfortably in his warm bed.
As they reached the edge of the Forbidden Forest, a sudden bark and heavy footsteps echoed from a distance.
Hagrid!
The group was startled and immediately dropped to the ground.
Kyle quickly took out the Invisibility Cloak.
Although the cloak was a bit small for five people and couldn't completely cover everyone, it was fortunate that they were in the Forbidden Forest, where the dense bushes also provided good cover.
The footsteps grew louder, and they could clearly see Hagrid's massive figure approaching.
Kyle, holding the Invisibility Cloak, crouched at the front, barely daring to breathe.
"Who's there? Come out!" Hagrid held a dim oil lamp and stopped near them. "I see you!"
Behind Hagrid, his black hunting dog, Fang, also appeared.
It sniffed the ground, inching closer and closer to where Kyle and the others were hiding.
For a moment, everyone's hearts were in their throats, and they covered their mouths with their hands, trying not to make a sound.
As Fang got closer, the distance between them quickly became less than a meter, and Kyle could clearly see its small black eyes and the drool dripping from its mouth.
"What did you find?"
Hagrid also noticed Fang's strange behavior and walked over, shouting, "I don't care who you are, but this is Hogwarts, not a place for your kind to come as you please!"
"Get out of here before I lose my temper, or you'll be in trouble if I catch you!"
For some reason, Fang hesitated for a moment after hearing Hagrid's voice, then suddenly changed direction and walked deeper into the Forbidden Forest.
Hagrid followed closely behind Fang, brushing past Kyle and the others.
Time ticked by, and only after the footsteps completely faded away did Kyle and the others finally relax, lying on the ground and panting heavily.
"That was intense," Cedric said, his face flushed. "Merlin's beard, I almost touched Hagrid's shoes, and he almost stepped on my hand!"
"Oh, damn it." Fred, who had just gotten up from the ground, suddenly cried out, looking at the sticky liquid on his hand. "I think I touched that dog's drool."
"You should be glad it was just drool." George said with lingering fear. "Hagrid was so scary just now. If he had caught us, it might not have been as simple as just being detained."
As he spoke, George shivered.
It was the first time he had seen Hagrid so angry, and the oppressive feeling was overwhelming. He still felt a chill just thinking about it.
"We really owe you guys this time." Kyle patted Fred and George's shoulders.
If it weren't for the two of them carrying a large pile of Mooncrazed Beast droppings, confusing Fang's sense of smell, they wouldn't have gotten away so easily just now.
After this unexpected incident, the group didn't dare to linger. Taking advantage of Hagrid still being in the Forbidden Forest, they quickly tidied up and sprinted towards the castle.
Upon reaching the secret passage exit, they didn't rush inside. Instead, they took out the Marauder's Map and, after confirming that Filch wasn't on the first floor, they entered the castle one after the other through the secret passage.
As it wasn't on their way, they parted ways after leaving the secret passage.
Perhaps still shaken by the recent events, the group appeared tense on their way back.
Cedric felt his heart pounding fiercely and couldn't help but say, "Kyle, do you think we'll get caught?"
"Don't worry. If we're discovered, we'll split up and run," Kyle whispered. "That way, he won't know who to chase."
"But..." Cona spoke with a trembling voice, "I, I'm slow. What should I do?"
"Oh, that's a problem," Kyle thought for a moment and said, "In that case, if we're discovered, you should run upstairs."
"Won't I be caught if I run upstairs?" Cona asked, puzzled.
"No, running upstairs isn't safe..." Kyle shook his head and explained, "But if you do that, Filch will chase after you, giving Cedric and me a chance to run back to the common room."

Cona's eyes gradually became vacant, and then, in a very short time, they turned angry.
However, Kyle was completely unaware of this. He continued whispering, "Catch one, run two. It's a good deal."
Cona gritted her teeth and said, "Then why am I the one who gets caught?"
"Hmm... It's simple." Kyle thought for a moment and said, "If one person must be harmed, why can't it be you?"
For some reason, Cona suddenly stopped feeling tense. She silently took out her wand and examined Kyle's back, as if searching for a suitable spot to jab it.
The Serpentwood wand's most distinctive feature was its hardness. According to Ollivander, in certain extreme circumstances, a Serpentwood wand could even be used as a close-combat weapon.
Kyle felt a chill down his back and subconsciously quickened his pace.
...
Nothing unexpected happened, and the three of them safely returned to the common room.
This was a certainty.
Kyle had noticed while looking at the Marauder's Map at the secret passage entrance that the professors were in their rooms sleeping, and Filch, who was on night duty, was on the eighth floor.
The distance from the Great Hall to the Hufflepuff common room wasn't far, and they could reach it quickly.
Filch wouldn't have enough time to run down in such a short time.
Therefore, Cedric and Cona's worries along the way were completely unnecessary.
"Good night, see you tomorrow." Yawning, Kyle returned to the dormitory.
He had originally planned to go to the kitchen to find something to eat after returning, but as soon as he entered the common room, he couldn't hold on any longer.
His eyelids started to droop, and his head felt heavy. All he wanted was a good night's sleep.
"Good night."
"Hmm~"
