Chapter 72: Base Visit
Chapter 72: Base Visit
In the bustling backyard of the tavern in Flash City, the air was filled with shouts and the clatter of activity.
"Move faster, and unload everything!"
"Be careful, or I'll dock your pay if anything gets damaged!"
"Separate the marked items; I'll be delivering them personally to the outskirts later."
Muzhuo barked orders at his subordinates, occasionally throwing in a harsh word for emphasis.
Given his high status, he normally wouldn't need to accompany the convoy himself. However, to show his respect for Flash City, he always led the team personally.
Recalling his first meeting with Su Nan in the tavern, Muzhuo couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. At the time, he had sensed that Su Nan was not an ordinary person and would likely achieve great things, but he never imagined just how astonishing and brilliant Su Nan would be.
As one of the prominent merchants in Jinghua Principality, Muzhuo had his own intelligence network and knew very well the significant role Su Nan played in the recent war to reclaim Flash City. Without Su Nan, Blackrock City wouldn't have stood a chance, let alone managed to turn the tide. Su Nan had almost single-handedly reversed the balance of power!
Muzhuo had heard many secrets about wizard apprentices, but this was the first time he realized just how powerful they could be. Naturally, he wanted to cultivate a strong relationship with such a promising and formidable individual. Not to mention, Su Nan's cooperation with the guild had brought in substantial profits through the sale of potions.
After the goods were unloaded, Muzhuo entrusted the remaining tasks to his deputy and personally led a team with the marked items to the base outside the city.
Otto stayed close by Muzhuo's side, sharing the same carriage.
Once inside the carriage, Muzhuo pulled down the curtain and casually asked, "Still no news from Froststain Province?"
Otto's face darkened as he shook his head. "No, I've sent several letters, but our kin there haven't responded."
"Strange. The beastmen in Froststain Province have been living peacefully. Why would they start spreading the beastification curse?" Muzhuo stroked his chin thoughtfully.
Otto replied grimly, "It's unlikely to be them. Only the original beastmen can spread the curse; we descendants can't. There must be something else going on."
Muzhuo didn't argue, but after a moment's consideration, he said, "After we deliver the goods, you should travel to Froststain Province and investigate. If the situation is too dire, the guild will need to consider pulling out its operations there."
"I understand," Otto nodded solemnly.
They fell into a silence, the carriage quiet once more.
Suddenly, a commotion outside caught their attention. Muzhuo lifted the curtain and saw three pitch-black leopards sprinting down the street, drawing the gaze of passersby.
Blackrock Leopards! Muzhuo immediately recognized them.
Ever since the battle at Blackrock City, the Blackrock Cavalry's reputation had spread throughout the entire Goldrock Province. Many knew that this cavalry unit possessed powerful mounts called Blackrock Leopards, each with knight-level combat strength and unmatched bravery, far surpassing even the finest warhorses.
The Blackrock Cavalry's fame was largely due to the Blackrock Leopards.
Many noble lords were envious of this.
Muzhuo had once tried to sound out Koy about purchasing a Blackrock Leopard, but was met with a firm refusal.
However, what surprised Muzhuo wasn't the leopards themselves, but the three children riding them.
Two boys and one girl, all around thirteen or fourteen years old.
"Who are these three?" Muzhuo wondered to himself.
Clearly, they were too young to be part of the Blackrock Cavalry, yet they were riding Blackrock Leopards, indicating a high status in Flash City.
Suddenly, a memory flashed through Muzhuo's mind.
Rumors had it that Su Nan took on three apprentices at the beginning of the year. Could these three young ones be them?
---
The wind howled past their ears as the scenery on either side of them blurred into a streak of colors. Xie Man, with an excited expression, rode atop a Blackrock Leopard, savoring the thrill of his first leopard ride. He felt his blood boil with excitement.
Kore, on the other side, couldn't hide his excitement either, his eyes gleaming with enthusiasm.
Only Adriel's face was a bit pale, not quite used to the speed.
Before long, the three of them arrived at the base.
"Is this the base Master mentioned?"
Xie Man curiously observed the towering stone walls and the closed gates in front of him. Upon closer inspection, he noticed shallow, intricate patterns etched into the stone walls, which he vaguely recognized from books as enchantment runes designed to enhance the hardness of the material.
Boom!
The gates suddenly opened, and a familiar figure darted out, landing in front of them as if by teleportation.
It was Amy.
"Meow, you finally made it. I've been waiting for you."
Amy waved at the three of them.
"Come on in. Master Su Nan is busy, so I'll show you around the base and help you get familiar with the place."
Under Amy's guidance, Xie Man and the others stepped into the base, a bit nervous.
As they passed through the gates, they noticed two massive stone creatures standing guard.
"Stone Golems!" Adriel whispered, having seen their images in books but never having seen one in person.
Xie Man and Kore also stared wide-eyed at the stone golems, their curiosity piqued.
"These are the base's guardians, meow," Amy explained.
As she spoke, a group of Clay Golems approached from a distance, seemingly preparing to leave the base.
Amy glanced back and said, "A merchant caravan just arrived with supplies. They're going to help with the unloading. Come on, let's continue."
She hopped along, and Xie Man and the others hurried to keep up.
Amy was very thorough, explaining the purpose of each area they visited.
"This is the meditation zone. You can meditate here in the future. Just pick an empty meditation room."
"This is the spell training area. See those humanoid targets? Once you learn spells, you can practice here."
"This is the experimentation area, where you'll conduct your experiments."
"This is the living quarters, where you'll be staying."
"This is the potion-making area."
The base was incredibly vast. As they walked, the three young apprentices were amazed by the variety of facilities.
Before they knew it, they arrived at the puppet factory.
Xie Man immediately noticed a massive steel figure standing in the corner and couldn't help but gape.
"What is that?"
Amy glanced over and said, "That's a Steel Golem."
"So, this is a Steel Golem."
Xie Man and the others had only read about low-tier golems in their books, with only a brief mention of Steel Golems without much detail. Seeing one in person was truly awe-inspiring.
It was so massive!
"Amy, is the Steel Golem much stronger than the Stone Golem?" Kore asked curiously.
"Of course. The Steel Golem has the combat power of a Legendary Knight."
Upon hearing Amy's answer, the three young apprentices collectively drew in a sharp breath, their eyes wide with astonishment.
This giant was as powerful as a Legendary Knight!
They couldn't help but swallow hard, their gaze filled with reverence as they looked at the Steel Golem.
Their admiration for Su Nan deepened even further.
A master who could create a Steel Golem must be incredibly powerful.
