Chapter 72: A Single Heartfelt Confession
Chapter 72: A Single Heartfelt Confession
You again!
Unaware that he had become the center of the Police Department's biggest gossip, Leon turned around upon sensing someone's presence, only to find that the troublemaker had come again. His face darkened instantly.
As a person with a relatively mild temperament, after a whole day of cooling off, his anger had subsided significantly. But seeing this persistent pest who wouldn't leave him alone, he couldn't help but feel a surge of anger once more.
"Are you ever going to stop?"
Setting down the large sniper rifle in his hand and stepping down from the shooting position, Leon, covered in dirt, asked with a scowl:
"I've told you countless times already. What happened yesterday morning was just an accident. The main reason your target escaped was that your disguise had too many flaws; you didn't look like a coffee seller at all!
And even if I did cause you to lose the capture target, you held me captive for an entire morning, and then you took my lunch at the cafeteria. Isn't that enough? If you keep going on like this, don't blame me for being impolite!"
You!
Hearing Leon mention yesterday's events, the female officer's anger flared up as she recalled being treated like a fool in the morning and the embarrassing scene at the cafeteria. She glared at him, ready to shout back.
But when she caught sight of Leon's slender figure and the old coat covered in dust, her imposing aura instantly deflated, and she lowered her chest and head, whispering her "shout":
"Can't you just talk to me nicely?"
...
???
Have you taken the wrong medicine or something?
Seeing the female officer transform from a fierce lioness to a submissive wife in just a second, Leon's mind couldn't keep up. The initially intimidating atmosphere he carried also dissipated.
Was this... smiling saber? Polite before force? Secret advance? Or some new trick I'm not aware of?
Just as Leon was stunned by her gentle words, his eyes filled with suspicion as he stared at the female officer, wondering what she was up to. But then, to his surprise, she reached out and pinched the corner of her coat, looking embarrassed as she asked in a soft voice:
"How... how have you been lately?"
...
I really can't understand what she's trying to do...
Completely bewildered by the female officer's seemingly schizophrenic behavior, Leon stood there for several seconds before he could react. Finally, by desperately recalling the annoying aspects of her, he managed to gather some remnants of his anger and replied with a sigh:
"Well, thank you for your concern. Aside from being pestered by a troublesome and petty person like you, I haven't encountered any other troubles recently."
You!
Just as she managed to suppress her anger, she was taunted to her face, and the female officer, naturally short-tempered, became even angrier. She lifted her head and glared at him, her eyebrows furrowed as she retorted:
"You... just take care of yourself..."
...
...
After sneaking a glance at Leon, whose eyelids were twitching wildly and whose expression seemed as twisted as if he had eaten stewed beef with chocolate, the female officer, equally stifled, abruptly turned her head away. She didn't feel relieved until she was sure the old coat was out of sight.
There was no other way. After reading Leon's file the previous day and learning about the military department's debt to his family, the female officer felt so guilty that she spent the entire night scratching the wall beside her bed, leaving it covered in nail marks.
When capturing other rebels, the female officer had heard their angry accusations, but at most, she only felt sympathy for their plight. When it was time to capture them, she didn't hesitate to take action.
She firmly believed that no matter how much injustice one had suffered, once they joined the rebels and resorted to methods like assassination, poisoning, and bombings, endangering innocent lives to seek revenge for their own grievances, they became new perpetrators and should bear the consequences of their actions.
Lyon's file was incredibly clean, with only one instance of extreme remarks and interference with his own arrest operation. Otherwise, he had been struggling to make a living, working tirelessly from dawn till dusk, and trying his best to support his family.
He not only didn't harm any Innocent Ones but even saved an entire hospital, earning praise for being diligent and kind. Almost no one had anything bad to say about him, making him a perfect victim with no faults.
What's more, the injustices and betrayals he suffered were largely from his own father, who controlled the Military Department. His father even signed a proposal to stop paying his parents' pension in advance!
The female police officer felt frustrated and indignant, biting her lip as she gazed at the stack of gas tanks beside her. She tried to sound severe and asked, "What are you trying to do with this dangerous shooting practice?"
The officer's face turned red with anger and embarrassment as she realized Lyon wasn't responding. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and warned, "I'm telling you, this kind of shooting method is prohibited by the Police Department!"
"If there's a similar attack in the Capital City, you'll have to account for every single nail shot. Don't think you can hide anything from me! I'll keep a close eye on you, Lyon Lane!"
The officer continued, "You haven't harmed any Innocent Ones yet, and it's not too late to turn back. I can help you deal with those who have wronged you!"
However, her words fell on deaf ears. When she opened her eyes, she saw Lyon wearing earplugs, lying on the shooting platform with his buttocks facing her. Her face turned bright red as she realized she had been yelling at his backside the entire time.
Enraged, the officer punched Lyon's buttocks, shouting, "What's wrong with you?!"
Later, Anna opened the door to find Lyon limping and covered in dust. She rushed to his side, brushing off the dirt and asking concernedly, "Brother, what happened to you?"
Lyon rubbed his sore buttocks and lied, "I was just practicing combat training with someone from the Police Department. The person I was training with was a bit crazy, and I got punched in the thigh, but it's fine now."
He changed the subject, asking, "How's the packing going? Can we move tomorrow morning?"
