Chapter 719: Dumbledore's Wild Scheme?
Chapter 719: Dumbledore's Wild Scheme?
"Alright, as you said, we don’t need to worry about the safety of others, but you still haven’t explained why you want me to heal the Dark Lord’s injury…" Snape said, his expression dark and questioning.
"You’re too impatient, Severus!" Dumbledore looked at Snape, a hint of disappointment in his voice as he sighed.
"Impatient? I hope you understand that you don’t have much time left. Once you’re gone, who will stand against the Dark Lord? Who will protect Potter’s safety?" Snape said, his voice tinged with desperation.
He couldn’t understand how Dumbledore could remain so optimistic in such a critical moment.
"So we must devise a plan, and that requires time and patience!" Dumbledore tried to soothe Snape’s emotions before continuing.
"Voldemort has always been suspicious. If you heal him this time, he will trust you more in the future…"
"We both know the Dark Lord trusts no one!" Snape said, his voice tinged with sarcasm, recalling Voldemort’s praise from the night before. He then looked back at Dumbledore.
"Or are you counting on me gaining his trust and then killing him when he least expects it?"
If Dumbledore were still alive, he could continue to act as an undercover agent and pass along vital information. But if Dumbledore died, what good would it do for Snape to gain Voldemort’s trust and become his right-hand man?
"No, I don’t expect you to kill Tom. With your abilities, it’s impossible!" Dumbledore said firmly.
At this, Snape’s face twitched slightly.
"So I only hope that when the time is right, you’ll do one thing for me!" Dumbledore’s expression grew serious, and he reached into a drawer, pulling out an object and placing it on the table. "Give this to him!"
Snape stared at the object on the table, then quickly looked back at Dumbledore, his face a mix of shock and confusion. He almost thought Dumbledore had picked up the wrong item.
"Are you sure you want me to give this to the Dark Lord?"
Snape looked at Dumbledore as if he were dealing with a severely demented patient.
Did he think the Dark Lord was a baby in a cradle? Or an ignorant child?
Perhaps he did, but unfortunately, the Dark Lord had grown up…
"Yes! I need you to give it to Voldemort yourself; it’s crucial…" Dumbledore nodded, his expression unusually grave, showing no hint of jest.
Snape gave him a long, hard look, then picked up the object and tucked it into his robes. "Can you tell me what it’s for?"
"Once the time is right, you and he will understand!" Dumbledore replied.
Snape’s brow furrowed in frustration at Dumbledore’s vague answer. After a long pause, he finally spoke. "How will I know when the time is right?"
Dumbledore pondered for a moment, thinking of Trelawney’s prophecy. The blue eyes behind his half-moon glasses suddenly glowed with a mysterious light as he slowly spoke.
"After I’m gone, if there comes a day when Voldemort is suddenly overcome by great fear, so much so that he is constantly on edge, then that will be the sign that the time has come!"
Snape remained silent, then turned and walked away briskly.
He planned to go back and carefully examine whether the healing potion he had brewed might cause irreversible damage to a wizard’s brain, affecting their intelligence…
Otherwise, why would Dumbledore suddenly have such a strange idea…
…
Meanwhile, in London, at Wizards Station.
With a crisp rumble, the Hogwarts Express pulled into the platform, billowing thick smoke.
Ivan and his companions had already packed their luggage and were waiting by the door. Once the Hogwarts Express came to a complete stop, they all got off the train and waved their farewells at Platform Nine and Three-Quarters.
"Goodbye, Harry, Ron. Remember to stay safe during the summer!" Hermione looked at the two of them with a heavy heart, then turned to Ivan.
"Got it, I'll remember to write!" Ivan answered before Hermione could even finish her sentence.
However, Hermione shook her head and smiled. "I was actually going to say that if I have time during the summer, I'll come to visit you!"
"Absolutely not! Don't come!" Hearing Hermione's plan to visit Knockturn Alley, Ivan's scalp tingled with dread, and he quickly rejected the idea.
But as soon as the words left his mouth, Ivan immediately regretted them.
Sure enough, Hermione's smile vanished, and she pursed her lips, glaring at him angrily.
"I'm not trying to be unwelcoming, Hermione, it's just that it might not be safe this year… you know why!" Ivan shrugged helplessly.
Knockturn Alley was already chaotic, and with Voldemort's resurrection, even he was struggling to stay safe. He certainly didn't have the time or energy to entertain Hermione.
"Because of the Dark Lord? Are you worried he might try to retaliate against you?" Hermione quickly caught on, and the anger in her heart dissipated. She spoke urgently, "What should we do? Maybe you could all hide at Hogwarts during the summer. The Dark Lord definitely wouldn't dare go there!"
Harry and Ron, standing nearby, also looked at Ivan with concern.
Seeing the well-meaning but misguided young witches and their supportive friends, Ivan couldn't help but feel a mix of amusement and frustration, unsure how to explain the situation.
At that moment, a voice came from behind them.
"Don't worry about it, Hermione. I think in a few days, Professor Dumbledore will invite you all to my place for a get-together…"
Everyone turned to see Sirius Black carrying a large trunk walking out of the Platform Nine and Three-Quarters passageway.
Harry was delighted. This meant he wouldn't have to spend the entire summer at the Dursleys and could still see his friends.
"Why didn't you tell us this earlier this morning?" Harry asked, puzzled.
"Professor Dumbledore wanted me to keep it a secret to surprise you all!" Sirius Black smiled, then turned to Ivan, earnestly advising him.
"Ivan, when you get back, try to convince your mother to let go of her old prejudices. With the Dark Lord's return, the entire Wizarding World has become unsafe, and Knockturn Alley is even more dangerous…"
"Sirius Black, I thought you and my mother have always been at odds. Why are you suddenly concerned about her?" Ivan asked, puzzled.
"These are dangerous times, and it's not the moment to dwell on petty grudges." Sirius Black raised an eyebrow. Although he didn't particularly like Asia, he wouldn't wish any harm on her, for Ivan's sake and out of respect for his departed comrade.
