Chapter 715: Lu Jiajie's Side Story 1
Chapter 715: Lu Jiajie's Side Story 1
Lu Jiajie was sleeping in the back of the truck with a few others, to be precise, on top of the cargo. Suddenly, the truck came to an abrupt halt, waking everyone up. Without needing to be told, the experienced cargo guards quickly sprang into action, leaving one person to watch over the goods while the rest jumped out, weapons in hand.
As they exited the truck, they heard a loud bang. When they rushed to the front, they saw the driver and two others holding earth guns, facing off against a group of about fifteen to sixteen people on the other side.
Lu Jiajie observed the opposing group, some wielding axes, others with hoes, and one brandishing a large machete.
These men were unharmed, indicating that the gunshot was merely a warning.
The leader of the group shouted, "If you want to pass, leave the truck and goods behind!"
Lu Jiajie found this amusing and fired a handgun at the man who had spoken, hitting him in the leg. The man howled in pain and knelt on the ground.
As the opposing group panicked, Lu Jiajie yelled, "Move the fallen tree out of our way immediately, or I'll send you to meet the King of Hell!"
In the past few years, he had traveled far and wide and encountered various situations, but he was initially inexperienced. Now, he always prepared thoroughly before each trip, unafraid of road bandits.
The opposing group, seeing that they were eleven people, all tall and intimidating, realized that they were well-armed with handguns. Their leader, without hesitation, fired a shot, indicating he was a ruthless character.
Seeing their silence, Lu Jiajie aimed his handgun at another man holding an axe and said, "I'll count to three. If you don't move the tree after that, don't blame me for what happens next."
Under the threat of the handguns, the group eventually moved the fallen tree blocking the road to the side, allowing the large truck to pass smoothly. Only then did Lu Jiajie and his companions climb back onto the truck.
As the truck drove away, Lu Jiacai's voice trembled as he said, "Ah Jie, you shot that man. Will they stay here to seek revenge on us later?"
He worked at the factory, initially earning just over eighty dollars. Later, Lu Jiajie helped him find a new job that paid two hundred dollars. But by accompanying Lu Jiajie on cargo runs, he could earn over a thousand dollars per round trip. He wanted his eldest son to buy a house and settle down in the city, so after much consideration, he decided to take a risk. The previous trips had been uneventful, but this time, they encountered road bandits.
Lu Jiajie patted the handgun at his waist and reassured him, "With this weapon, there's nothing to be afraid of."
He didn't say more due to the presence of others. The man who was shot was promptly sent to the hospital to have the bullet removed. With luck, he could fully recover within a year or two; otherwise, he might be left with a disability.
In the past, they had no choice but to engage in such risky work to pay off their debts, or they would never be able to repay such a large sum in their lifetime. After completing this final run and settling the debt, he planned to make a few more trips to save up some capital and start his own business. Even if that bastard recovered from his leg injury, by then, he would have already quit and wouldn't have to worry about retaliation.
Upon reaching the border, they unloaded the cargo and stored it in a warehouse. The group finally relaxed after the tense journey. Lu Jiajie ate a bun and took a shower before falling asleep on the bed.
He slept until noon the next day. Lu Jiacai, seeing him awake, went outside and brought in hot food and dishes. After he finished eating, Lu Jiacai said, "Ah Jie, after this trip, I won't be joining you anymore. With the money I've saved these past few months, I can buy two houses in Yangcheng."
Lu Jiajie understood that he had been scared. He replied, "For a family of six, two houses are not enough."
After two more rounds with you, we'll have enough to buy a plot of land and build a house. That way, we can have a proper place to stay."
Lu Jia Cai had built four brick houses in his hometown, and he never thought of buying property in the city. It was Lu Jiajie who suggested it, believing that Yangcheng would only get better in the future. He thought that having a house in the city would not only provide a place to stay but also allow future generations to study there.
If it were up to Lu Jia Cai, he would never buy a property in the city. He believed that no matter how good the city was, it couldn't compare to home. But when he heard about the consideration for his future grandchildren, he hesitated. After working in the city for several years, he was well aware of the vast gap between urban and rural areas.
Lu Jia Cai paused for a moment and said, "Ah Jie, Xingzi and Meizi are both earning money now. Qiangqiang and Xiao Feng'er are still young. What if you have another two kids? How will you manage?"
There were only two brothers in the family, and Lu Jiajie didn't hide anything, "Big Brother, I plan to work for another six months and then quit. After that, I can start a small business to support the family."
After experiencing so much, he wanted to live a stable life. Especially every time he went on a long trip, his son would cry, and it would make him feel terrible.
Lu Jia Cai was delighted, "You're a smart one. You'll definitely make money in business too. If you need my help, just give me a shout. If not, I'll find something to do at the factory."
Lu Jiajie indicated that there was no rush, and they could discuss it later.
After delivering the goods obtained from the Russians to the Capital City, and once the goods were sold, he received his share of the money.
Following Lu Jiaxin's instructions, he gave this money to his eldest uncle.
Lu Jiaxin had opened an account in Feng County dedicated to charity, and the funds were managed by a designated person. For Lu's eldest uncle to use the money, he had to submit a report and get the responsible person's signature, which was quite troublesome.
Considering Lu's eldest uncle's advanced age, Lu Jiaxin wanted him to enjoy his retirement, but the old man refused to admit his age and believed he could still work for another decade. After some thought, Lu Jiaxin assigned Lu's eldest uncle to take care of impoverished children within the Lu Clan. Lu Jiaxin directly transferred the funds into his account, making it more convenient to manage.
With the debt cleared, Lu Jiajie felt an unprecedented sense of relief. When his older brother and sister-in-law expressed their hope for him to find a woman and settle down, he agreed. Previously, he had been constantly on the move, and his two children were left in the care of his brother and sister-in-law. He didn't mind not having a woman at home, but now that he planned to return to the city for business in half a year, he needed a woman to manage the household.
He initially thought it would take some time to find a suitable match, but he was pleasantly surprised by his sister-in-law's resourcefulness. The first arranged marriage candidate met his expectations in every aspect.
Because of his satisfaction, Lu Jiajie told Yao Hongmei about his divorce from Ma Lili, his shortcomings, and the strengths and weaknesses of his two children. If she could accept all of this, they would continue; otherwise, there was no point in wasting each other's time.
Two days later, the intermediary reported that Yao Hongmei was very pleased with him. The two met twice more, once at a park followed by a movie, and another time at Xiushui Street, followed by dinner.
After three meetings, Lu Jiajie felt everything went well, so he asked Yao Hongmei to introduce him to her family. Although he had heard good things about Yao's family, he wanted to see for himself, especially after being badly deceived by Ma's family, which left him cautious.
Yao Hongmei was also very satisfied with Lu Jiajie, and on Sunday, she took him home to meet her family.
Her family was very pleased with him, and the wedding date was set soon after. As it was a second marriage, they didn't plan a grand celebration. They registered their marriage and then booked a few tables at a restaurant to celebrate with both sides of the family.
