Chapter 713: Sky City
Chapter 713: Sky City
A Magic Tower is an extremely useful fixed asset for casters, serving as their Sanctuary, Research Center, and Fortress. Due to the powerful Magic they wield, many Transcendent Spells often surround and protect these buildings.
For casters who possess a Magic Tower, it acts as a shield. During dangerous times, it is a haven, a reliable Shelter where Mages can hide from powerful enemies or major upheavals.
At the same time, it serves as a spear. By utilizing various forms of Arcane Engineering, Radiant Beams, Magic Turbulence, and other mystical forces, casters can construct a building that significantly enhances their Arcane Abilities, allowing them to control elements, planes, and other powers, bringing about the most thorough destruction to their enemies.
Additionally, the Magic Tower provides the most crucial Research Environment for its users. For many casters, knowledge is power. The Magic Tower offers various effective functions and essential books, items, equipment, and dimensions, enabling casters to complete every step of their research without leaving the building.
In summary, the relationship between casters and their Magic Towers is very close. Through precise calculations and arrangements, a Magic Tower establishes a connection with its Master, allowing their magic power to flow back and forth, and gathering surrounding magic power to the tower. In many ways, a Magic Tower is more of a Magic Energy Hub than a Residential Building.
Essentially, a Magic Tower is a Building-Class Magic Item. Its design and structure are intended to gather magic power. The tower's tall, upright form is designed to meet this purpose, which is why casters are so fond of building towering Wizard Towers.
This principle holds true in most worlds, even in the Harry Potter world, where Magic civilization is not particularly advanced. Whether it's Hogwarts, Nurmengard, or even other places, these locations, which served as long-term research sites for Wizards, all share a common feature: they have tall towers.
For example, in Hogwarts, the house that invests the most effort in Magic Research, Ravenclaw, has its own tower. This clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of the tower design in focusing magic power.
Of course, not every caster owns a Magic Tower. Or, more accurately, only a very few casters can have a tower of their own. Some casters can only use a Magic Tower by attaching themselves to a powerful Mage or a significant faction, while most casters never get to use a Magic Tower in their entire lives.
The reason for this situation is that the cost of building such an Enchanted Building is staggering. Even casters with sufficient resources to construct their own Magic Tower often build just a basic tower rather than an entire castle. For example, among the Magic buildings Liam has seen, those built as castles are either extremely wealthy or have a long history, or both.
For Liam, who controls vast resources from several worlds, building a Magic Tower naturally means choosing the best. Therefore, a single Magic Tower is not his goal; a Sky City like Laputa is the ideal model he has in mind.
The core of a Magic Tower is the Energy Trap, also known as the Power Core. Fortunately, Liam had already solved this critical issue using a Flight Stone Crystal. The next step is to build a central room as the nerve center of the entire Magic Tower, with all other rooms constructed around this central room as the cornerstone.
"The book says that the construction of the central room should use some stable and sturdy materials. The most important qualities are sufficient magic power shielding and high strength", Hermione read from Arcane Geometry. "In terms of materials, the best choice is Metal, followed by Alchemical Stone infused with Metal. For example, the Magic Tower we saw at Lady Silvermoon's place reportedly used a large amount of Metal ore, making it much more expensive than a regular Magic Tower."
"I chose better materials than they did." As they spoke, the puppets borrowed from Laputa began emerging from a portal, carrying block after block of silver-white metal.
"Is this Magic Metal?" Hermione looked at the growing pile of metal ingots in front of her, her eyes widening in surprise. She could feel a faint magical power emanating from the metal. "I read in a book that only deities use metal as the primary material for their halls."
"Don’t forget, the world where Silvermoon City is located is equivalent to our medieval era. They smelt metal by hand, so how could there be enough for mages to squander?" Liam shrugged, watching the pile of metal grow. "But we have the backing of a modern industrial society."
"This isn’t iron." Hermione stepped forward and picked up a silver-white ingot. "It feels light in my hand. You’re not planning to use aluminum alloy, are you?"
"Of course not." Liam also picked up an ingot and infused it with a bit of magic power. Instantly, the metal glowed with a faint blue light, almost like a radioactive material. "This is Titanium Alloy, and during smelting, I added a bit of Mithril to turn it into a Magic Alloy."
Soon, the puppets began assembling the Titanium Alloy components into a room. Liam then used the power of Rose Madonna to fuse the entire room together, and placed the golden sphere on a three-tiered Amethyst altar in the center of the room.
Instantly, the room emitted a blue glow, and intricate golden runes appeared on the metal walls. Hermione felt as if the room had come to life.
"Alright, the first cornerstone of the Magic Tower has been laid." Liam led Hermione to the front of the room, and a gap large enough for two people appeared, allowing them to enter.
Once they were inside, the gap closed, and the room returned to its seamless state. Despite the lack of windows and doors, the room was filled with a soft, gentle light. This light came from the walls, floor, and ceiling, which were now covered in intricate runes and magical arrays, illuminating the entire space. Apart from the three-tiered Amethyst altar in the center of the floor, the room was mostly empty. The golden sphere, serving as the energy core, now floated about a meter above the altar.
"The next step is to float this room 20 meters above the ground and start building from the lower half of the Sky City." Liam made a gesture, and a rune on the golden sphere lit up. Hermione immediately felt the floor beneath her begin to rise, as if they were in an ascending lift.
Over the next seven months, with the help of thousands of puppets and robots, Ryan and the others gradually constructed the Sky City castle. The castle contained everything a Magic Tower should have, including a Magic Garden, Laboratory, Blast Chamber, Library, Scrying Room, and Workshop. Additionally, the Magic Castle had its own Artificial Intelligence.
"Now we can return." Looking at the floating castle with its deep blue roof and white walls, which seemed to have stepped out of a fairy tale, Liam said to Hermione, "I have to say, the gift we received on this Christmas trip was truly amazing."
