Chapter 712: Inheritance
Chapter 712: Inheritance
"It's quite rare for Captain Daigo to not give us a break after completing a mission like this."
As they walked towards the training ground, Akane casually remarked.
Usually, after completing a mission, Daigo would grant them a break based on the difficulty of the mission. For easy missions, they would get a day off, and for slightly more challenging ones, two to three days.
"Maybe this mission was too simple. Even though it was an S-rank mission, there wasn't any actual combat," Koushi Tetsu complained.
This was his first time taking on an S-rank mission, and he had been nervous at first, worried that he might hold Daigo back during the fight. He never expected it to be this easy.
"Indeed, it felt more like a C-rank mission," Shiniguki Kumo agreed.
"But it's not bad. After all, the mission reward is still an S-rank payment."
Love the village, but doing missions isn't a voluntary job; money is also a primary goal.
The three of them chatted and laughed along the way, soon approaching the training ground.
"Captain Daigo, good morning!" Akane greeted Daigo, who had arrived early and was waiting for them, with a smile and a wave.
Shiniguki Kumo and Koushi Tetsu also smiled and waved at Daigo.
"Yeah, good morning to you too," Daigo replied with a smile.
"What are we training today? Taijutsu or ninjutsu?" Akane asked curiously.
"Neither. Today, we're doing a special training exercise," Daigo answered.
At first, no one paid much attention to this so-called special training until Daigo explained the rules.
"You can use any means to attack my shadow clone. If you hit the clone, the training ends. If you miss, for every minute the clone successfully dodges, it will generate five questions. The time limit is ten minutes."
Shiniguki Kumo and the others were stunned.
Were they supposed to attack Daigo, even if it was just a shadow clone? It didn't seem likely.
"Don't worry. My shadow clone will only dodge and won't counterattack. And its speed won't be too exaggerated," Daigo explained, as if reading their minds.
"So, if we don't hit the clone within ten minutes, we have to answer fifty questions?" Akane asked, her eyes widening in disbelief.
"That's right," Daigo affirmed with a nod.
Akane's smile faded, and she suddenly pressed her hand to her forehead, saying, "Oh no, my head feels a bit dizzy. I must have caught a cold last night without a blanket."
Then, Akane clasped her hands together and turned towards Daigo, "Captain Daigo, sorry, but I won't be participating in the training today. I'll go to the Leaf Village Hospital to get checked out."
After saying this, Akane turned and started walking towards home, wanting to get away from this terrifying place.
It wasn't that Akane was being lazy; the special training was genuinely scary.
Whoosh!
Daigo appeared in front of Akane, smiling as he watched her. "I don't think you're heading in the direction of the Leaf Village Hospital."
Akane patted her head, looking annoyed. "Sorry, Captain Daigo. My brain is overheating, and I've lost my way."
Then, Akane casually changed direction as if nothing had happened.
Daigo placed his hand on Akane's shoulder, his powerful grip preventing her from moving.
"You're the worst team I've ever led. When Teacher Yu Sheng Mu Yue used this special training on me, I actively participated," Daigo shook his head.
The three of them couldn't help but agree; in a sense, Daigo wasn't wrong, as he had only led this one team.
"Captain Daigo, can you go easy on us? Maybe one question every two minutes?"
Akane blinked her expressive eyes, trying to appeal to her captain's conscience with her cuteness.
"This training is already toned down. Do you know why Akai and Shizuru are so powerful? The training Teacher Yu Sheng Mu Yue gave us is beyond your imagination," Daigo said seriously.
Seeing Daigo's seriousness, Akane also subconsciously became more solemn, no longer joking around.
Shiniguki Kumo and Koushi Tetsu felt the same.
"Captain Daigo and Senior Akai used to be the last in class, so their current strength must have been achieved through great hardship," Koushi Tetsu thought to himself.
They knew some of Daigo's past, so they instantly believed his words.
Unfortunately, Daigo was indeed tricking them this time. While their journey so far hadn't been easy, this level of question training was typical for such intensity.
"Captain Daigo, let's start the special training! I won't let you down!" Koushi Tetsu shouted with enthusiasm.
Seeing that his words had an effect, Daigo's lips curled up slightly, and he performed hand seals to create a shadow clone.
"Begin!"
Once Akane and the others were fully prepared, Daigo announced the official start of the special training.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Akane, Koushi Tetsu, and Shiniguki Kumo all unleashed their chakra, charging towards Daigo's shadow clone.
Akane didn't want to answer questions, Koushi Tetsu and Shiniguki Kumo weren't afraid of theoretical questions, but they wanted to achieve good results.
However, their movements were like playing poker with their cards exposed to Daigo, an experienced fighter. His shadow clone easily dodged their attacks and then, with its superior speed, kept them running in circles.
Action: The three of them exchanged glances and then dashed off in three different directions, running while forming hand seals.
"Fire Dragon Whirl!"
"Water Jet Stream!"
"Thunder Spear!"
They vaguely understood the purpose of Kaito's shadow clone technique.
Even with the speed of Kaito's shadow clone, Akane, the fastest among them, had no chance of catching up. Therefore, they had to cooperate to achieve better results in this special training.
"Fire Dragon Bomb!"
Kaito's shadow clone also formed hand seals and used fire-style jutsu, releasing a sea of flames.
A loud explosion followed, and thick smoke rose from the blast.
Shiniguki Kumo's eyebrows furrowed as their attacks were blocked by Kaito's powerful fire technique. This training was more challenging than they had imagined.
Kaito's smile widened as he looked at the trio's troubled expressions.
In the past, he had been tormented by this training, and he couldn't remember how many questions he had answered because of it.
Of course, the results were also significant. His breathing control and combat abilities had improved considerably.
"Training's over. Now each of you needs to answer fifty questions," Kaito announced after ten minutes.
"No!" Akane cried out in agony, feeling like the sky was falling.
This wasn't just about fifty questions; it was also about her miserable future.
The thought of going through this training again, even a second or third time, made her dizzy.
"We're still too weak," Koushi Tetsu said, looking at his hands and feeling his weakness.
Although their ages were not that different, their strengths were worlds apart.
"Don't worry. You have two choices. One is to undergo more challenging training to offset the questions, and the other is to continue with regular training but complete the questions after today's session," Kaito said with a smile.
He wasn't a demon; he understood how torturous this training could be for those who weren't good at theory.
"I choose to offset the questions!" Akane exclaimed before Kaito could even explain the details of the training.
For her, training, no matter how difficult, was better than answering questions.
"Me too," Shiniguki Kumo and Koushi Tetsu said in unison, their reasons differing from Akane's. They simply wanted to become stronger.
"Alright, let's begin," Kaito nodded with a smile and then trained the trio for the entire morning, referring to Might Guy's previous training regimen.
By the time the morning training ended, Akane and the others were drenched in sweat. Even when Kaito called them for lunch, it took them several minutes to get up.
"Here, eat this," Kaito said, feeding them the training elixir Yu Sheng Mu Yue had given him.
Mu Yue's elixir not only healed internal injuries but also effectively relieved physical fatigue.
After taking the elixir, Akane and the others felt slightly better and slowly walked with Kaito to the BBQ shop.
"Today's on me, order whatever you like," Kaito said generously.
All three of them had reached their physical limits during the morning training and were starving. Hearing Kaito's offer, they didn't hold back and ordered a lot of meat.
"Wow, Captain Kaito, you're the best!" Akane said between mouthfuls of meat, expressing her gratitude to Kaito for treating them.
Koushi Tetsu and Shiniguki Kumo also gave Kaito a thumbs up.
Kaito merely smiled without saying a word. After today, such opportunities would be rare.
After the midday break, Akane and the others regained their energy.
"Captain Kaito, let's continue training. I remember there are still fifteen questions left, right?" Akane asked eagerly.
According to the rules set by Kaito, they had offset thirty-five questions with their morning training. Now, they only needed to offset fifteen more questions, and Akane could bid farewell to theory.
"Don't worry, there's more than one special training," Kaito said with a smile.
Akane's head spun. After finally offsetting thirty-five questions, there was more?
"The afternoon training is combat training. One side attacks, and the other defends. The attacking side starts with forty questions and needs to hit the defending side as much as possible. Each successful hit reduces two questions.
The defending side needs to dodge as much as possible. Each time they get hit, two questions are added," Kaito explained the rules.
"We'll do two rounds. In the first round, Shiniguki Kumo will attack, and Koushi Tetsu will defend. In the second round, they'll switch roles."
Shiniguki Kumo and Koushi Tetsu remained calm.
This training was much easier and simpler compared to the morning session. As long as they didn't attack each other, they would only need to answer forty questions each.
"I almost forgot to show you. If you have leftover questions at the end, the questions you'll need to answer will be something like this.
(End)
Action: Kaito takes out the exam papers he had prepared in advance.
These were carefully selected questions from the papers Yu Sheng Mu Yue had given him, creating a new exam with a unique combination of questions.
"Material One: During the Warring States period, there were two powerful ninja clans. One was the Senju Clan, who valued love, and the other was..."
Shiniguki Kumo glanced at the question and realized that his previous attitude had been somewhat hasty.
The exam questions set by Kaito were not simple; they were more challenging than he had imagined.
Koushi Tetsu's expression changed slightly, and he became cautious.
"Tetsu, why don't you let me take ten hits first, and then I won't move. We can switch, and you can take ten hits next round. That way, we'll only need to answer forty questions each," Shiniguki Kumo suggested in a low voice.
"Then why not just stay still? That would be simpler," Koushi Tetsu refused.
"After all, it's Captain Kaito's training. Staying completely still would be too disrespectful," Shiniguki Kumo explained.
Koushi Tetsu remained unmoved.
"Fine, let's not attack each other, then," Shiniguki Kumo agreed reluctantly.
"Begin!"
At Kaito's command, Shiniguki Kumo immediately released the chakra he had prepared beforehand, aiming it at Koushi Tetsu.
"I knew you had something up your sleeve," Koushi Tetsu cursed inwardly, and he too released the chakra he had gathered to dodge the attack.
He only wanted to catch Shiniguki Kumo off guard, but Shiniguki Kumo was trying to take advantage of him for twenty questions.
To reduce the number of questions, both sides gave it their all.
There was no choice; according to Kaito's previous training, where the intensity of the training reduced the number of questions, even if they trained desperately for half a day, they would only be able to reduce thirty-five questions.
If they had to take on forty more questions in the afternoon, they would still have to answer twenty difficult questions after a day of hard training.
"It's a good thing there are only three of us," Akane thought, feeling relieved.
"Come here, everyone gets a turn at the special training," Kaito said, letting his Shadow Clone help Shiniguki Kumo and Koushi Tetsu keep count while his main body brought Akane to the trap zone he had set up.
"You need to dodge the traps and avoid my Shadow Clone's interference within the specified time, reach the designated location, and obtain the token. The later you are, the more questions you'll have to answer."
Akane's cheerful expression froze; this sounded more troublesome and tiring than what Shiniguki Kumo and Koushi Tetsu were doing.
After the special training, Akane and the others had dozens more questions added to their workload.
But the exam training wasn't over yet; by the end of their afternoon training, Akane and the other two had hundreds of questions to answer.
"What is the meaning of life?" Akane lay on the ground, her eyes vacant as she muttered.
She thought she might never forget this day for the rest of her life.
"It's not that bad; I didn't ask you to finish them in a few days. You can take your time with these questions, whether it's a few months or a few years," Kaito couldn't help but laugh.
"Anyway, there are only so many questions. Tomorrow, I won't be your captain anymore, so I can't give you special training."
Upon hearing Kaito's words, Akane, who had been looking exhausted from overtraining, immediately stood up, along with the other two.
Akane quickly asked, "Captain Kaito, why won't you be our captain anymore? Are you dissatisfied with us? I don't hate this kind of special training."
Shiniguki Kumo and Koushi Tetsu also looked at Kaito with concern.
"Haha, you haven't forgotten that I'm the Acting Captain, have you? Your original captain has fully recovered, so my duties are over," Kaito explained, scratching his head.
Akane and the other two exchanged glances, suddenly remembering that their original captain was only injured, not dead.
The three of them were at a loss for words. It would be inappropriate to ask for a captain change from Yu Sheng Mu Yue, even though Ryuuou wasn't as strong as Kaito, he was still a responsible leader.
"I'm not leaving the Leaf Village; I'm just not the captain anymore. If you have time, you can come to me for help with the exams or any cultivation questions," Kaito said, patting the three of them on the shoulders with a smile.
Akane and the others' expressions finally improved.
"But I hope that in the future, whether it's during missions or other tasks, you'll think carefully before acting and be cautious. In the special training, the consequence of failure is just answering more questions, but in reality, the consequences are unpredictable," Kaito said seriously.
This was the message he believed Yu Sheng Mu Yue wanted to convey through the special training, and it was one of the reasons Kaito had conducted so many exam-focused training sessions in one go. He wanted to pass on this idea to Akane and the others.
"We'll remember!"
Listening to Kaito's words and recalling everything that had happened that day, the three of them answered in unison, their eyes slightly red.
"Then farewell. Tomorrow, Captain Ryuuou will lead your training as usual," Kaito said, waving goodbye to the three of them with a smile.
"Thank you, Captain Kaito!"
The three of them shouted their gratitude to Kaito, calling out his title one last time for the day.
