Chapter 71: The Happy Poop Scooper
Chapter 71: The Happy Poop Scooper
This secret passage seemed to be specifically designed for midnight excursions, with its exit not far from the castle, located behind the bushes near the Quidditch Pitch.
After everyone emerged, Fred and George quickly moved to the front and spread their arms, saying, "Welcome to Hogwarts at night."
"It feels completely different from the daytime. Enjoy it."
Cedric and Conna both appeared excited.
For them, this midnight excursion was a novel experience, and they felt a sense of excitement they couldn't quite describe.
Kyle, on the other hand, didn't have any particular feelings about it, but as this was his first time seeing Hogwarts at night, he couldn't help but feel curious and looked around.
The night at Hogwarts was especially serene, with stars in the night sky emitting soft light, as if they were little night lights hanging above the castle.
It was a dream-like beauty, yet peaceful and harmonious.
The group paused for a moment, until Fred spoke up, reminding them that they still had important matters to attend to. They snapped out of their trance and headed towards the Forbidden Forest.
On their way, they took a big detour, intentionally bypassing Hagrid's hut.
Although Fang was a bit timid, he was still a proper hunting dog with keen senses of hearing and smell. If they got too close, he might sense their presence.
It was better to take some time than to be dragged back to the castle by Hagrid.
After bypassing the hut, they arrived at a vast woodland. The Mooncrazed Beast's lair wasn't hard to find, and under Kyle's guidance, they soon spotted the Guardian Trees.
At that moment, the Mooncrazed Beasts were just emerging from their lair.
They raised their long necks towards the sky, creating a stark contrast between their large heads and slender legs.
They looked like miniature alpacas.
Under the moonlight, they slowly lifted their front legs, while their slightly thicker hind legs began to sway irregularly.
"The dance of the Mooncrazed Beast... This is the dance of the Mooncrazed Beast!" Cedric exclaimed excitedly, "I've only seen it in books before, and the live version is far superior!"
"Don't get too excited," Kyle whispered, "They might stop dancing if they notice us."
The Mooncrazed Beast was an extremely shy magical creature. If they sensed other people nearby, they would shyly retreat into their lair.
But Cedric was right.
The live dance was indeed much more captivating than the photos in the books.
However, this was normal. Newt was just a socially anxious magical creature researcher, and his photography skills were mediocre at best.
The Mooncrazed Beasts danced for a while, seemingly warming up, and their dance moves became more complex and enchanting.
Moreover, with each step they took, fine silver-white light spots gradually appeared on the ground behind them.
These light spots increased in number, forming a stage-like platform beneath the Mooncrazed Beasts' feet.
The silver-white "stage" and the moonlight above complemented each other, elevating their dance to a whole new level.
"So beautiful..." Conna's eyes sparkled, captivated by the sight.
"Ahem..."
Although it was a bit of a mood killer, Kyle leaned closer to her ear and whispered, "Those silver things are their droppings."
"..."
The stars in Conna's eyes disappeared at a visible rate. She turned her head and looked at Kyle in disbelief.
"It's true," Kyle said calmly, "If you don't believe me, you can check the book 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.' It's written there.
Conna: "..."
Upon learning that the Mooncrazed Beast was dancing on its own droppings, she couldn't bring herself to continue watching.
The graceful and intricate dance before her now seemed to lose its appeal.
Conna felt a surge of frustration.
She couldn't understand why Kyle would tell her this now; couldn't he have waited until after they finished watching?
The more she thought about it, the angrier she became. She turned around again and punched Kyle's arm.
Fred and George, standing nearby, felt the same way. They also punched Kyle in frustration and told him to keep quiet when he should be.
Only Cedric seemed to be a bit more understanding, as he already knew all this.
Seeing that he had angered everyone, Kyle quickly raised his hands in surrender and admitted his mistake, "I was wrong!"
But it was too late; everyone, including Cedric, continued to stare at him.
There was no choice; he had to go along with the group.
"Alright, let's put it this way," Kyle continued, "That thing is silver, and Sicko is also silver. Do you know what this implies?"
"6◇9◇Book◇Bar"
"Let's put it this way, if you guys are diligent, you can probably collect five of them in one night."
Fred and George gasped, momentarily forgetting their anger towards Kyle. They huddled together, deep in thought.
Five Galleons a night, thirty-five a week, and for a whole semester...
The twins' heads were spinning; they couldn't quite calculate the total, but they knew it was a massive amount.
And they still had six years left at Hogwarts.
With this windfall, even if they split it with Kyle and the others, they could open their own joke shop upon graduation.
Was their dream about to come true?
The brothers hugged each other, overwhelmed with joy, and were so excited that they almost jumped up and down.
After that, they forgot everything else and just stared intently at the Mooncrazed Beasts, waiting for the silver dots to stop increasing. As soon as they did, the twins rushed out.
The Mooncrazed Beasts were startled and scurried back to their nests, while Fred and George collected their droppings.
Feeling they were too slow, Fred even called out to Kyle and the others for help.
However, Kyle and Cedric didn't move, and Conna hesitated for a moment, but Kyle pulled her back.
"Hey, aren't you going to tell them the truth?" Cedric, the honest one, was torn.
The Mooncrazed Beast's droppings were indeed valuable, but only when they were fresh. Moreover, unlike Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans, these droppings couldn't be sold just by saying so; they needed a stable sales channel and customers.
Fred and George couldn't even get out of Hogwarts, let alone do anything else. Cedric couldn't imagine who they could sell the collected droppings to.
Additionally, there was something more important... they were at Hogwarts.
Whether it was Hagrid's pumpkin patch or Professor Sprout's greenhouse, they all required a large amount of fertilizer.
Surely, they wouldn't be buying fertilizer from outside, right?
"What truth are you talking about? I don't understand what you mean," Kyle said innocently. "What I said earlier was the truth; that thing is indeed very valuable."
Cedric pursed his lips, looking at the twins with a hint of sympathy.
After a while, Kyle suddenly felt a bit sleepy. He called out to the twins, who were still happily shoveling, and despite their strong objections, he and Cedric forcefully dragged them out of the Forbidden Forest.
