Chapter 71: Now That You're Here
Chapter 71: Now That You're Here
"Only a divine weapon can oppose another divine weapon?" Lin Yuan remained calm.
There was nothing wrong with that statement. Over the millennia, under the subtle influence of divine weapons, the martial arts system of this world had become distorted, focusing solely on refining the physical body and enhancing one's qi and blood.
Even the most talented individuals would eventually stall at the Martial Blood Sage stage, becoming nothing more than 'delicacies' in the eyes of the numerous divine weapons.
And the Martial Blood Sage stage was equivalent to merely the peak of the second tier.
On the other hand, each of the divine weapons was at least a quasi-fourth tier existence.
The gap between the two, if measured by the tiers of the Main World, was at least a difference of over a dozen realms.
"Do you mean that the so-called 'evil weapons' are also divine weapons?" Lin Yuan asked with interest.
"That is the truth," Sikong Lun nodded. "With your identity, you should be aware that all divine weapons originated from ancient times, tens of thousands of years ago."
Tens of thousands of years ago, there were ancient gods who sacrificed mountains and rivers, melted the four seas, and forged numerous divine weapons. All the divine weapons in the world today date back to that era.
Lin Yuan's thoughts raced, but he maintained his calm demeanor as he continued to gaze at Sikong Lun.
Feeling the weight of Lin Yuan's stare, Sikong Lun felt a great deal of pressure and continued, "Tens of thousands of years ago, the number of divine weapons forged by the ancient gods was far more than just thirty-six. However, something unknown happened, causing most of the divine weapons to be shattered, leaving only the thirty-six intact ones we know today."
"The shattered divine weapons were later designated as 'evil weapons' by the thirty-six nations of the Central Plains," Sikong Lun said in one breath.
This information was top-secret, even within the Reverse God Association. Only someone in his position as a helmsperson would have access to such knowledge.
However, since this secret did not threaten the foundation of the Reverse God Association, he had the authority to disclose it.
"I see," Lin Yuan said, his mind clearing up as he understood the answers to many of his doubts.
"Sir, although I do not know which power you hail from, the thirty-six divine weapons that protect the country view us humans as pigs and dogs. They demand a large number of live human sacrifices from time to time. Who can tolerate such behavior?" Sikong Lun spoke up when he saw that Lin Yuan remained silent.
The reason the Reverse God Association had survived the encirclement and suppression of the thirty-six countries was not only because of the protection of certain 'evil weapons' but also because the behavior of the divine weapons, feeding on humans, was more likely to incite resistance from the human race.
As long as the truth was known, a large portion of people, even if they did not join the Reverse God Association, would at least not stand against them.
After all, one might choose not to resist the rule of the divine weapons, but there was no need to obstruct the Reverse God Association either.
Ultimately, if the Reverse God Association overthrew the rule of the divine weapons one day, it would be beneficial to those who were part of the human race.
"Do you want me to join the Reverse God Association?" A flicker of strangeness crossed Lin Yuan's face.
He did have designs on the Reverse God Association, but it was not for him to join them; rather, he wanted them to serve his purposes.
"Bring me one of the 'evil weapons,' and I'll consider it," Lin Yuan said after a moment's thought.
Thus far, Lin Yuan was still not a match for a fully empowered 'divine weapon.' But if he couldn't deal with a divine weapon, could he at least handle an evil weapon? Evil weapons were the shattered remnants of divine weapons, a mere fraction of their former selves. Over the years, they had been forced to hide and flee, unable to devour large numbers of human beings' qi, blood, and souls.
As such, the power of an evil weapon was at most slightly stronger than a Martial Saint, roughly equivalent to a weakened Martial God.
This prompted Lin Yuan to consider studying these evil weapons.
No matter how weak they were now, they had once been divine weapons. With his Heaven-defying Comprehension, he might be able to discover the weaknesses of the divine weapons through them.
"Consider it?" Sikong Lun's pupils contracted slightly.
His previous words had been intended to evoke Lin Yuan's sympathy and spare his small life.
He hadn't expected Lin Yuan to actually consider his proposal.
The fact that the divine weapons fed on humans rarely influenced truly important figures.
After all, these figures stood at the pinnacle, and even if the divine weapons did feed on humans, they wouldn't dare touch these elites.
And in Sikong Lun's eyes, Lin Yuan was undoubtedly an elite among elites.
"Alright," he said. "But I need to make a trip back to the main helm."
"There's a divine weapon fragment there that only I can find."
Sikong Lun readily agreed. He couldn't think of a reason for Lin Yuan to deceive him.
Although the evil weapons were fragments of divine weapons, they still possessed self-awareness.
Not to mention twenty Martial Saints, even two hundred Martial Saints would be hard-pressed to restrain a single evil weapon.
Under Lin Yuan's orders, Sikong Lun smoothly left the palace.
"If there really is such an important figure joining the Reverse God Association..." Sikong Lun's spirits lifted.
Although Lin Yuan had never revealed his true identity, the sheer power displayed when he had crushed the headquarters of the Reverse God Association was enough to convey the might of his backing, an influence deep and unfathomable.
Having the support of such a figure would undoubtedly make the future of the Reverse God Association much brighter.
With this in mind, Sikong Lun quickened his pace.
Reverse God Association Headquarters.
The place had been flattened, and only a few remained to guard it.
Sikong Lun's expression was complex as he returned to this place, bringing with him Lin Yuan's orders.
Soon, he arrived at the deepest part of the underground.
It was an empty stone chamber.
Sikong Lun walked to a corner and murmured a few words before dripping a few drops of blood.
Rumble...
A stone door slowly opened.
Seeing this, Sikong Lun breathed a sigh of relief.
The opening of the stone door meant that the 'evil weapon' had not left.
Realizing that every 'evil weapon' possesses self-awareness, it was only natural for the "evil weapon" stationed here to leave after the destruction of the Reverse God Association's headquarters.
Entering the stone door, Sikong Lun approached a stone pedestal and bowed respectfully. "Greetings, Your Excellency."
On the pedestal lay a 'fragment', seemingly a piece of a mirror.
"Oh?" The fragment spoke, its voice filled with interest. "Wasn't this place of the Reverse God Association destroyed?"
"Then how are you still alive?" it asked, its mental fluctuations carrying a hint of curiosity.
Sikong Lun explained everything he knew, hoping to convince the "evil weapon" to meet Lin Yuan. He knew that for this to happen, the "evil weapon" would have to be willing to cooperate.
"I see," the "evil weapon" replied. "So, you want me to take control of that person when I meet him?"
This fragment was a piece of the divine weapon, the Sacred Heart Mirror, which retained the ability to ensnare and enslave minds, even in its broken state. However, using this ability was taxing on the fragment, and more importantly, the mental fluctuations caused by its actions could easily be detected by true divine weapons. This was why it had not acted when the Reverse God Association's headquarters had been destroyed—the risk of drawing the attention of a country-protecting divine weapon was too great.
Nevertheless, the potential rewards far outweighed the risks if it could control a figure as important as Lin Yuan. Just by consuming a few of the over twenty Martial Saints under Lin Yuan's command, the Sacred Heart Mirror fragment could greatly restore its damaged source.
"Are you sure what you're saying is true?" the fragment asked again, its mental fluctuations intense.
"Your Excellency, I speak the truth," Sikong Lun assured it.
To get the "evil weapon" to act, a price would have to be paid. There was no other way.
"Good. Take me there," the fragment said, floating up and into Sikong Lun's hand.
With the Sacred Heart Mirror fragment in hand, Sikong Lun quickly made his way back to the palace entrance.
"Ah, such a familiar taste," the fragment murmured from within Sikong Lun's embrace, its mental fluctuations filled with anticipation. Even from the entrance, it could sense the presence of seven or eight Martial Saints.
A Martial Saint like the Refining Blood Warrior was a rare delicacy, even for true divine weapons, and all the more so for an "evil weapon" like the Sacred Heart Mirror fragment. It couldn't remember the last time it had fed on a Martial Saint of that caliber—was it two hundred years ago? Three hundred? Five hundred?
Filled with anticipation, the Sacred Heart Mirror fragment accompanied Sikong Lun as they made their way towards the grand hall in the depths of the palace. The fragment was thrilled by the auras it sensed along the way.
Its sole focus now was to control Lin Yuan and then command him to offer up the Martial Saints for it to consume.
After a short while, Sikong Lun stopped before the grand hall at the heart of the palace. This was where he had met Lin Yuan, and he assumed that Lin Yuan was still waiting for him inside.
"Your Excellency, we've arrived," Sikong Lun said, patting his chest to remind the fragment.
"I know, I know," the fragment replied impatiently, its mental fluctuations betraying its eagerness. Nonetheless, it cautiously extended its senses into the hall, using the residual abilities of the divine weapon.
"What is this?" the fragment exclaimed, its mental fluctuations suddenly agitated. Through its close-range sensing, it instinctively detected an extremely dangerous presence.
The fragment was perplexed. Only a true divine weapon should pose a threat to it, yet it was certain that there were no other divine weapons in the hall. It couldn't understand why it felt such a deadly threat in the absence of another divine weapon.
"Never mind. We shouldn't stay here any longer," it decided after a few moments of thought. The fragment's mental fluctuations swept over the nearby Martial Saints one last time before it withdrew them.
Just then, a streak of light shot out from Sikong Lun's chest. Upon closer inspection, one could make out the shape of a mirror fragment at its core.
"Let's go," the Sacred Heart Mirror fragment said, flying towards the palace entrance.
At that moment, a voice called out from within the grand hall. "Now that you're here, won't you come in for a visit?"
In an instant, the power of heaven and earth within a radius of several miles began to boil. Yin and Yang energies merged, forming a giant black and white hand that grabbed the fleeing Sacred Heart Mirror fragment and pulled it back towards the grand hall.
