Chapter 71: Let's Give Professor Dumbledore Some Fun
Chapter 71: Let's Give Professor Dumbledore Some Fun
"Lumos~"
As Ivan uttered the spell, the brilliant light pierced through the darkness and shone on the Devil's Snare. These plants, which feared light and heat, immediately retracted their vines.
The floor was about four meters below. After making a quick assessment, Ivan had Harry, Ron, and Hermione help him use the Levitation Charm to lower Fluffy down.
Harry also attached the Music Box to the chain around Fluffy's neck to ensure it wouldn't wake up halfway through.
Fluffy was quite large, and even with four people using the Levitation Charm, they barely managed to keep him stable. At one point, Fluffy almost woke up.
Fortunately, the music never stopped, and after some effort, they successfully lowered Fluffy down. The Devil's Snare, which had been driven back, also reformed during this time.
"But what about this trapdoor? And the empty space here will surely raise Minister Fudge's suspicions", Hermione said worriedly.
"Do you have any useless items on you? I can use a Transfiguration Spell to decorate this place", Ivan sighed, feeling like he was becoming a professional clean-up crew. Dumbledore didn't even pay him in Galleons.
Upon hearing this, the three of them rummaged through their robes and found quite a few small objects.
Ron pulled out a bag of Every Flavor Beans, Harry had a few Galleons and Sickles, and Hermione found some small combs and mirrors.
Together, they had quite a bit, especially Ron's Every Flavor Beans, which could yield over a hundred beans when opened.
To avoid being caught with a poorly executed Transfiguration Spell, Ivan refused their help and completed the transformation himself.
"Hmm, not bad", Ivan said, nodding in satisfaction after he was done.
"Is this really okay?" Harry looked up at the ceiling, suddenly feeling a bit scared.
"Who cares? I'm sure Professor Dumbledore will have a way to explain it!" Ivan said with a deep sense of resentment. He wasn't the type to let someone get away with tricking him.
He had originally planned to give Dumbledore more trouble, but he was a bit disappointed because they didn't have any large objects. It seemed he wouldn't be able to create a big stir.
As Ivan was casting the spell, they heard Professor Mcgonagall's loud voice from a distance.
"There's nothing special about the corridor on the fourth floor. The door is just there to separate the spaces."
What should they do now?
Harry didn't dare speak, but he gave Ivan a meaningful look.
Ivan hadn't expected the Ministry of Magic to arrive so quickly. He had thought Dumbledore would keep Fudge busy, giving them more time.
But at least Professor Mcgonagall had warned them.
"We can jump down. The floor below is covered in Devil's Snare. We just need to stay still", Hermione whispered, pointing at the trapdoor, and then jumped down first.
She had already seen the Devil's Snare vines re-form, so she wasn't worried about being injured.
Harry and Ron took a deep breath and jumped down as well, hoping Fluffy was still sleeping below.
Ivan didn't have time to stop them; the three had already jumped.
"Actually, I know how to use the Disillusionment Charm", Ivan muttered, then cast a Transformation Spell on the trapdoor and slipped inside before the spell was fully complete.
As the trapdoor slowly closed and merged with the floor, the wooden door was pushed open, and Umbridge's annoying voice echoed in the corridor.
"I don't think so. There might be some secret hidden in there."
Umbridge walked in with a smile, but as she turned, the corridor seemed to trigger some mechanism. The Specter Masks hanging from thin ropes on the ceiling began to drop, swaying in the air, their hollow eyes staring at her with expressions of joy or laughter. One of them landed directly in front of Umbridge.
"Ah!!!" Umbridge fell to the ground with a shrill scream.
Outside, Professor Mcgonagall immediately became tense, and Dumbledore thought Umbridge might have discovered Fluffy. He suddenly felt that entrusting the task of moving Fluffy to a few children might have been a miscalculation.
It was indeed a daunting task for a few Young Wizards to move a Three-Headed Dog in such a short time.
But when he entered, Dumbledore found the situation was different from what he had imagined. Rows of Specter Masks with various expressions were hanging from the ceiling, and Dumbledore couldn't help but laugh and cry at the same time.
Professor Mcgonagall was also startled and cast a questioning glance at him.
Dumbledore subtly shook his head, indicating he was also in the dark. It seemed that Ivan always had a way of surprising him.
"Albus, what is going on here?" Fudge looked at the corridor, which seemed like a haunted house, with a very complex expression, and regarded Dumbledore with a strange look.
He couldn't help but suspect that Dumbledore was secretly practicing dangerous dark magic, and Fudge even regretted coming to the fourth floor. Could he be here to be silenced?
But upon closer inspection, Fudge realized that these masks were not dark magic artifacts but ordinary masks.
Dumbledore pondered for a moment. He had no prior knowledge of Ivan's setup, but this little trick was not enough to stump him.
In just a few seconds, Dumbledore adopted the demeanor of someone with dementia, often forgetting things, and clapped his hands.
"Ah, I remember now. I asked Severus to buy these for the Halloween party. If I hadn't come to check, I would have forgotten they were here."
As he spoke, Dumbledore picked up a mask and put it on. It was a Vampire Mask, with red paint on the corners of its mouth, giving the appearance of blood.
"Looks good, doesn't it?" Dumbledore said.
Severus?
Professor Mcgonagall's lips twitched. The excuse Dumbledore gave was far too casual, and she didn't believe that Snape would do such a thing.
Fudge looked at a mask doubtfully, picking it up. It was a finely crafted Specter Mask, seemingly made of redwood, with no obvious signs of anything unusual.
Umbridge had also picked herself up from the ground. The public humiliation had driven her to lose her composure. In a fit of rage, she drew her wand and cast a spell at the masks.
"Revealing Charm~"
A wave of magic spread from the tip of her wand, causing the masks hanging in the air to sway and emit a faint sound.
