Chapter 71: Encounter with the Sand Ninja!
Chapter 71: Encounter with the Sand Ninja!
However, just as the shuriken was about to leave the ninja's hand, Feng Ye's figure on the opposite bank of the river vanished abruptly.
Shh!
Without a sound, Feng Ye's figure crossed the riverbank and appeared behind the ninja. The Kusanagi sword was already unsheathed, piercing the ninja's chest!
"Your boss is smart, but you're not," Feng Ye shook his head, withdrawing the Kusanagi sword. The blood dripping from the blade surprisingly left no stain on the metal.
It seemed to be the genuine Kusanagi sword, and from its appearance, it was likely the same one Orochimaru gave to Sasuke in the original storyline—an exact replica.
"Cough..."
The ninja impaled by Feng Ye's sword had a bewildered look on his face. He reached out, touching his chest, and saw his palm stained with blood. Fear and horror filled his eyes, but his strength quickly faded, and his body fell to the ground.
The other ninjas witnessed this scene with shock and disbelief in their eyes as they looked at Feng Ye, unsure if what they just saw was real.
"Hey, come on now," one of them stuttered.
"Is this guy an... upper ninja?!" another exclaimed.
The speed and chakra control he displayed were far beyond their boss's capabilities. Such power couldn't be achieved by a middle or low-level ninja; it was undoubtedly the skill of an upper ninja, possibly even one from the five great ninja villages!
Upon realizing this, their greed withered like a plant under cold water. Overcome with fear, they didn't hesitate to turn and flee in the opposite direction.
An upper ninja from one of the five great ninja villages! They knew they stood no chance against such an opponent.
However, it was too late for them to escape. Feng Ye had no intention of letting go of those who had shown him killing intent. With the Kusanagi sword in hand, his figure flashed as he swiftly moved through the group.
Shh!
A residual image was all that could be seen as he passed by, leaving only fear and shock frozen on their faces before they, too, fell to the ground. Their blood mixed with the rain, quickly staining the wet ground and flowing into the nearby river.
"A bunch of idiots," the scarred ninja muttered to himself as he noticed the events from a distance.
See?
He knew this would happen!
It was already strange that they could catch up to him from the village, and their bold attitude made it clear that they were after the Kusanagi sword. Either they had a large number of ninjas in ambush or their individual strength was formidable!
Although he was reluctant to part with the divine Kusanagi sword that he had obtained with great difficulty, he didn't hesitate to throw it away. After all, his life was more important than any artifact.
Swoosh! Swoosh!!
After witnessing Feng Ye's swift dispatch of his subordinates, the scarred ninja stimulated his chakra, increasing his speed slightly as he fled into the distance.
Feng Ye, standing on the riverbank with the Kusanagi sword in hand, watched from a distance, tilting his head slightly as he considered whether to chase after this overly cautious ninja and finish him off.
Letting him go could potentially leak the information that the Kusanagi sword was now in his possession. However, with his current strength, possessing one Kusanagi sword wasn't something he needed to hide. Moreover, he would need it in future battles, just as Orochimaru had used it openly on the battlefield.
However, as Feng Ye was deep in thought, his eyes suddenly fixed on something.
The scarred ninja, who had already fled to a distant location, suddenly froze. He stopped in front of a vast forest, his figure becoming rigid.
Then, to Feng Ye's eyes, the scarred ninja turned and tried to escape in another direction. It seemed that he had seen something terrifying in the forest, but then chaotic things started flying out—blazing flames and water blades as sharp as knives.
"What's a squad of Sand Ninjas doing here?" Feng Ye's thoughts raced as he observed the Sunagakure ninjas rushing out of the forest.
This place was in the northeastern border region of the Rain Country, quite far from the Wind Country, but relatively closer to the Earth Country. The presence of a Sunagakure squad here likely meant that they had taken a huge detour.
Feng Ye wasn't intimidated by the nearly hundred-strong group of Sunagakure ninjas, but he had no reason to engage them in battle. Discovering their presence and relaying the information back to Konoha would be sufficient.
However—
Before Feng Ye could retreat, a large number of the Sand Ninjas rushed towards him.
"There's a ninja within my sensory range, at the three o'clock direction!" a sensory-type ninja from among the running Sand Ninjas shouted.
"Understood... Sixth and Seventh Teams, flank him from both sides and don't let him escape!" ordered Hakura, the elite jonin from Sunagakure leading the squad, her gaze cold and unyielding.
"Yes!" came the reply from the Sand Ninjas, who immediately split into two groups and began to encircle Feng Ye.
Hakura's eyes remained fixed on Feng Ye's direction, her expression devoid of emotion.
She wasn't sure which village Feng Ye belonged to, but now that they had been discovered, she couldn't afford to let him escape.
Their mission was to launch a surprise attack on Konoha's camp, striking their logistics, medical units, and wounded from the flank.
This plan had been devised by Elder Elder Elder, and they had spared no effort in executing it, taking nearly ten days to traverse deep into the Rain Country and approach from the most remote route.
If this ambush succeeded, it would catch Konoha off guard and could even turn the tide of the war!
Hence, they couldn't afford any leaks.
Whoosh! Whoosh!!
The Sand Ninjas swiftly closed in on Feng Ye's position.
Feng Ye sheathed the Kusanagi Sword and started to retreat, keeping an eye on the pursuing Sand Ninjas. A realization was forming in his mind.
The presence of this squad here likely meant they were on a mission to ambush Konoha's camp. That was why they continued to pursue him, a mere 'bystander', even after eliminating the Scarred Ninja.
As Feng Ye retreated, the Sand Ninjas showed no signs of letting up and continued the chase, quickly covering several li.
"If you keep pursuing me, I won't hold back..." Feng Ye muttered, his eyes trailing the pursuing Sand Ninjas.
A hundred Sand Ninjas weren't enough to make him resort to opening the Eight Inner Gates just to escape.
While a hundred-strong ninja squad could potentially threaten him, if they persisted in their pursuit and their varying speeds and abilities caused the group to become scattered and their formation disorganized, rendering them unable to effectively surround him, then their numbers held no significance.
As long as he didn't fall into an encirclement, those ninjas posed no threat to him, whether they numbered in the hundreds or thousands!
