Chapter 71: A Change of Plans
Chapter 71: A Change of Plans
After more than ten minutes, Chen Sao arrived with her luggage, holding Lin Yue's hand, and stood before Jiang Cheng.
"Jiang Cheng, can we really go to the outer borough to stay for a while?" Lin Yue asked anxiously.
Her eyes were filled with anticipation.
She had also heard many friends talk about the sights in the outer borough, especially one friend who had been there and became the object of envy and admiration for the group.
But she also knew that in her lifetime, she might never get the chance to see it.
Now, however, she had this opportunity to stay there for more than ten days.
Moreover, with the increasing chaos outside recently, she was naturally anxious and eager for this chance.
"Of course," Jiang Cheng smiled at her, "I'm preparing to take you there."
"Chen Sao, did you pack everything?"
"Yes, I've packed everything," Chen Sao nodded, looking at the two large boxes.
"Good, I'll trouble you to take care of Grandma for me during this time," Jiang Cheng said.
"What? I thought you said you'd be going with us?" Chen Sao exclaimed in surprise.
The elderly woman also held onto Jiang Cheng's clothes, "Xia Cheng, wouldn't it be better if you came with us?"
"If I go, what about next month's membership fee? If we can't gather enough money, when the Iron Fist Gang comes, we'll have to pay the management fee again. And someone needs to look after the house, right? If we're all not at home, what if our belongings get stolen when we return after some time?"
The group fell silent at his words, for they knew he was right.
Jiang Cheng smiled and reassured them, "Grandma, Chen Sao, don't worry. I have the martial arts gym's premium membership card. Even if we encounter those people, they wouldn't dare do anything to me. I'll send you to the place in the outer borough, and after you settle in, I'll come back."
It wasn't that he didn't trust Bai Wei, but he was concerned about his family's safety.
"Alright, you must be careful by yourself," Chen Sao said, slightly relieved but still offering a reminder.
"Don't worry, let's get going," Jiang Cheng said, taking a deep breath.
With his family's safety assured, he no longer had any worries.
Not only was he concerned about the few men on the street during the day, but he had also planned to settle scores with Jiang Xiong and his thugs after the Wild Wolf Gang left.
However, he had now offended the Wild Wolf Gang, and it was highly likely that they would take action against him.
Since this was the case, why hold back any longer? Jiang Cheng decided to take action! After locking the door, he escorted his family towards the martial arts gym.
As expected, there were unfriendly gazes directed at them along the way.
Most of these stares were aimed at Chen Sao and Lin Yue.
But since it was still broad daylight, and with Jiang Cheng by their side, they safely arrived at the gym.
After waiting for a moment on the first floor, Bai Wei came downstairs.
The elderly woman, Chen Sao, and Lin Yue couldn't help but widen their eyes at the sight of her.
For the woman before them was extraordinary in appearance, figure, and demeanor, surpassing that of ordinary people.
"Is everyone here?" Bai Wei asked, looking at Jiang Cheng with a smile.
She had expected there would be men, but they were all women. Although Jiang Cheng was a man, he didn't plan to stay, so she had no objections.
"Yes, this is my grandma, Chen Sao, and my sister, Lin Yue," Jiang Cheng introduced them briefly.
"Alright, let's not waste time. Follow me," Bai Wei nodded and led them to the backyard.
There were many cars parked inside the house.
Lin Yue's eyes widened in surprise.
Chen Sao became even more cautious, tightly holding the elderly woman's hand.
They stopped beside a red sedan.
"Put the luggage here," Bai Wei opened the trunk and smiled at the nervous trio.
"I'll do it," Jiang Cheng took the luggage from Chen Sao and placed them into the trunk one by one.
Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed the license plate starting with a 'D' followed by a string of numbers.
Soon, he guessed what the 'D' stood for.
"It'll take around half an hour to reach Dongfang City. If you feel tired, you can take a nap in the car."
"We're not tired at all," Chen Sao quickly added.
"Hehe."
Bai Wei smiled but didn't say anything more. She was the first to take the driver's seat.
Jiang Cheng could tell that, not only the grandmother but also Chen Sao and Lin Yue had little experience with cars, and at most, they had only seen pictures. So, he slowly guided the three of them into the car and closed the doors.
After doing all this, he finally took the passenger seat and expressed his gratitude, "Senior Sister Bai, you've helped us a lot."
"There's no need for thanks; we had an agreement, didn't we?"
Bai Wei nodded as she steered the wheel, slowly driving out of the courtyard and along the long street by the entrance.
Pedestrians on the roadside stopped to watch, their faces filled with longing.
For the average person in the slums, buying a car was out of the question. Only those in the city could afford such a luxury.
Lin Yue's face was filled with excitement as she looked out the window.
So, this was what it felt like to ride in a car? The scenery outside the window flew by in reverse.
Chen Sao also wore an expression of awe.
But neither she nor Lin Yue dared to make a sound.
Jiang Cheng didn't say anything either. Firstly, he didn't know what to say to Bai Wei, and secondly, he was afraid that the more he spoke, the more he might reveal, allowing Chen Sao in the back seat to overhear.
The scenery outside remained the same. The road wasn't particularly wide, with houses on both sides, and further out, there were mud brick houses. The people, dressed simply and with faces showing the strain of poverty, all stopped to watch.
Jiang Cheng didn't know how long they had been driving, but the houses on both sides disappeared, leaving behind a vast expanse of fields. A road stretched into the distance.
In the faraway, a cluster of buildings could be vaguely seen.
"That's Dongfang City."
Bai Wei spoke up.
The people in the car all looked in that direction without saying a word.
As they drew closer, the number of cars on both sides increased.
They could even see flying vehicles roaring through the sky.
Even Jiang Cheng was left in awe.
"The first time I saw that thing, I had the same expression."
Bai Wei smiled.
"Is that thing very expensive?"
Jiang Cheng asked.
"Not only is it expensive, but you also need qualifications to drive it."
Bai Wei shrugged.
Jiang Cheng understood.
Probably only a select group of people was allowed to drive that thing.
Ahead, a wall over ten meters tall appeared, extending to both sides. Behind the wall were some tall buildings, not many in number.
Further in the distance, there seemed to be another tall wall, higher than all the buildings outside. It blocked the view of what was inside.
Some small black dots occasionally flew out or into the wall.
"That's the Inner City."
Bai Wei's eyes held a complex expression as she said, "It's where the upper class and the Horn Clan reside."
Jiang Cheng nodded.
The Horn Clan lived within the Inner City.
At the outer wall, there were numerous entrances, with many people and vehicles waiting to enter.
There were guards in black uniforms, holding firearms, conducting inspections.
It was almost their turn.
The three in the back seat immediately tensed up.
Jiang Cheng also gripped the seatbelt.
"Don't be nervous. Although you don't have ID cards, with me as your guarantor, you can enter. And if you cause trouble in the city, I'll take responsibility."
Bai Wei explained.
"We won't cause any trouble," Chen Sao quickly assured.
"I know."
Bai Wei glanced at them through the rearview mirror and smiled slightly.
As expected, when the guards arrived, they checked Bai Wei's documents, asked for the names of Jiang Cheng and the others, recorded their fingerprints, and after a warning, they were allowed to pass.
"Thank you."
Jiang Cheng thanked them again.
After all, being a guarantor carried risks.
"It's nothing. Alright, this is the Outer City."
Bai Wei nodded towards the front.
