Chapter 707: The Stone Pillar Floating Island
Chapter 707: The Stone Pillar Floating Island
An entire night had passed since the Harvest Day, and the essence tide triggered by it slowly dissipated in the air. Yet, the abundance of essence in the world remained highly active.
The next morning, Lindsey woke up to the precise call of his biological clock. He prepared breakfast, woke Alice, and even felt that his spirit was more energized than usual.
"Alice, how are you feeling?" Lindsey greeted his companion. He casually tossed a string of roasted purple bananas in her direction.
"I'm doing well," Alice replied, catching the breakfast Lindsey threw her way.
She quickly peeled and ate two of the purple bananas, then suddenly remembered a new word she had learned the night before. "Lindsey, I recall you mentioning last night that ordinary people can get a disease called diabetes from consuming too much sugar?"
Lindsey corrected her, "It's not sweets, but sugar."
"And you don't need to worry about that here. In a world with essence, people generally have stronger physiques, especially us Awakened. We're highly unlikely to encounter such troubles."
Alice responded earnestly, "But this theory is undoubtedly based on actual data, isn't it?"
"Lindsey, I truly believe your previous civilization was remarkable."
"And for me, learning is a continuous journey forward."
The two chatted as they made their way towards the edge of the floating island. Not long after they left their campsite, a thin yellow-black line appeared in their line of sight, gradually widening as they approached.
"Lindsey, look ahead!" Alice pointed to the vertical line. "In the Dust Path World, this is a normal bridge connecting two floating islands."
From the outer world to the Stone Pillar Archipelago surrounding the Middle Ring World, most of the bridges they encountered were the black ones built by followers, with a few constructed by Lindsey himself.
Hearing this, Lindsey promptly took out his telescope. As the distant scene magnified before his eyes, he noticed more intricate details.
The bridge spanning the two floating islands had a very unique structure. Its main body was made of earth and stone, but between the cracks, there was a faint golden glow. It resembled shattered bulletproof glass that hadn't completely disintegrated, or a piece of antique porcelain carefully glued back together by restorers.
Lindsey quickened his pace, and corresponding information began to appear in his field of vision.
[Floating Bridge - A man-made bridge with a slow self-healing ability.]
"..."
"Was this also left behind by the Righteous One who restored the world?" Lindsey asked.
He was curious and stepped onto the floating bridge, immediately feeling a slight bounce beneath his feet.
The strength of this bridge wasn't particularly high, yet it spanned over a kilometer between the outer islands and the Stone Pillar Island.
With a single flat plate structure, the connection between the two islands was complete.
"..."
"The material itself only has ordinary strength," Lindsey commented.
"What truly maintains its stability is the power of the Source Essence Technique within, helping it resist the pull of gravity."
As Lindsey walked on the bridge, his keen perception allowed him to sense not only the bounce of the bridge's surface but also the changes in friction between the stones and the earth.
The floating bridge appeared to be a conventional bridge, but its essence was a series of objects fixed in mid-air by the technique, and the golden glow was the key to its stability.
At this moment, Alice, who was following behind, spoke up:
"The Righteous Ones who rule the City of Law are very dedicated to their work and duties."
Lindsey turned and asked, "What about in times of chaos like this?"
Alice forced a smile, "People with stubborn opinions will butt heads, and no one will stop until they shatter the other's skull."
Lindsey gave Alice a subtle look, "You... Does that include yourself?"
The Righteous Maiden replied seriously, "Me? Definitely not!"
"Because I walk the path of righteousness!"
"..."
Lindsey decided to drop the topic with Alice.
The artists of the Seven Seas Alliance, like Xilude, would do anything, good or bad, in the pursuit of art, discarding all moral concepts to satisfy their goals.
The Righteous Ones of the City of Law do not seek art, but they too have distinct 'characteristics'.
They aim to refute others in their areas of obsession.
"..."
Suddenly, Lindsey recalled the Law Knights.
The Law Knights' techniques were based on the law, and to some extent, they were even better.
But the Righteous Ones were completely different.
Their path was one they had thought through and concluded on their own, then reinforced and strengthened with Source Essence Techniques.
Like Alice, a Righteous One who had cultivated her technique to the sixth stage.
The obsession in her heart was immeasurable!
And it was impossible to be easily convinced by words!
...
The floating bridge, spanning 2/3 of the distance, was not considered long.
As Lindsey and Alice walked past this point, without using their reconnaissance skills, they easily spotted two figures at the bridgehead.
Lindsey opened the Adventure Map.
Besides the bridgehead, there was a small camp behind the Stone Pillar Island.
These people were soldiers guarding the road to the outside world.
Lindsey spoke to Alice, "There are two guards ahead, and a camp behind the stone pillar, totaling about 40 people."
Alice nodded, "The disputes between city-states are more intense here."
"And since they've claimed this territory, there must be management and supervision."
Then, Alice asked Lindsey, "Lindsey, should we sneak past or go all out?"
"..."
Lindsey ignored the Righteous Maiden's subtle phrasing.
After all, Alice's choice of words was Lindsey's fault.
He pondered for a moment and quickly replied, "Let's go openly."
"This is where the Middle Ring World differs from the Outer World, so we should gather some information."
Alice nodded in agreement, and they continued forward.
Soon after, the guards on the other side of the bridge noticed Lindsey and Alice approaching.
The one on the left took out a flame lance and held it horizontally across the bridge.
The other guard picked up a hammer from the ground beside him and held it tightly, poised above the bridge.
The first guard aimed to prevent anyone on the bridge from charging.
As for the second guard...
If anything happened on the bridge, he would smash the bridge in front of him, causing the path and the visitors to fall into the void.
"You..."
The guard tried to shout tensely.
But before he could finish, Alice took two steps forward, and a powerful will enveloped both of them, "Gentlemen, we are just passing through."
"If you don't wish to clash swords with us, please step aside!"
