Chapter 707: A Close Encounter with Voldemort
Chapter 707: A Close Encounter with Voldemort
Harry and Sirius Black were well aware of the urgency of the situation. Without a moment's hesitation, they grabbed Ivan's wrist.
"Apparate~ (Apparition)" Ivan immediately cast the spell.
However, before the magic could take effect, it was abruptly halted by a pale, bloodless hand pressing firmly on his shoulder.
Ivan felt a chill run down his spine. He turned his head sharply, only to find Voldemort's eerie snake-like face mere inches away, his blood-red eyes filled with malice.
A cold, sinister aura seeped into Ivan's body through his shoulder. He could clearly feel the hand on his shoulder tightening, and his life force draining away bit by bit.
There was no time for shock or screams. Drawn on his extensive combat experience, Ivan made the right decision—activating the Serpent's Eye at the first opportunity!
His pupils, previously dark, suddenly turned a vivid orange-yellow.
The eyes of a Basilisk!
Caught off guard, Voldemort was immediately affected. The hand that had been gripping Ivan's shoulder stopped tightening, and his face twisted in a mix of shock and fury.
Meanwhile, Ivan felt his magic surging out of his body like a flood, as if he would be drained dry within seconds.
Fortunately, Sirius Black reacted just in time. He drew his wand with lightning speed and pointed it at Voldemort's snake-like face, shouting loudly.
"Avada Kedavra~ (Avada Kedavra)"
A bolt of emerald green light shot out from Sirius Black's wand!
To Ivan, this sound was like a heavenly melody. He stared intently at Voldemort, hoping the spell would reduce him to a mere wisp of a soul.
However, Ivan was soon shocked to see that Voldemort, under the influence of the Serpent's Eye, was still moving. His lips moved as if he were casting a spell.
The green light struck Voldemort next, blasting him backward. His form dissolved into a cloud of black mist mid-air...
Ivan had no time to check Voldemort's condition. He immediately deactivated his magic eye and once again cast the Portkey magic.
"Apparate~ (Apparition)"
...
With a spatial shift, the three figures appeared atop a cliff.
Ivan knelt on the ground, gasping for breath. The brief but intense confrontation had drained him completely.
Not to mention, he had used Apparition while still in the midst of battle, carrying two others with him.
Reflecting on this, Ivan felt a lingering sense of fear. When he had cast the magic, he had only been about four-tenths confident it would succeed. Fortunately, luck had been on their side.
"Dark Lord... is he dead?" Sirius Black was still processing what had just happened. He was fairly certain the Killing Curse had struck Voldemort.
Harry was also excited. Wizards hit by the Killing Curse were almost always killed, barring a few exceptional cases. At the very least, Voldemort would have lost his power, and they might have ended the Dark Lord once again.
"I don't think so..." Ivan shook his head. He believed Harry and Sirius Black were being overly optimistic. Voldemort had likely cast a spell at the last moment to evade the attack, which is why his body had disintegrated.
If the magic eye had been more powerful, it might have completely immobilized Voldemort, and Sirius Black's spell might have truly reduced him to a wisp of a soul.
Unfortunately, that opportunity had come and gone. Any future attempts would be met with Voldemort's heightened vigilance.
Ivan couldn't help but sigh. Even back in second year, when he faced the Horcrux, he had realized that his magic eye had limited effect on Voldemort.
Firstly, Voldemort's power and magic far surpassed his own, and secondly, the Dark Lord had also integrated the Basilisk bloodline, making his resistance terrifyingly high.
"Where are we now?" Harry struggled to get up from the ground, looking around. In front of him was a vast sea, and they were standing on a cliff by the shore.
The salty sea breeze blew continuously, and the sound of waves crashing against the rocks could be heard from time to time.
"Isn't this where we destroyed the Dark Lord's Horcrux last time?" Sirius Black quickly recognized the place. He turned his head and looked into the distance, where he could still see a Muggle village faintly.
"Yes! The Professors are near that small village. If we signal from here, they will definitely see it and come over!" Ivan spoke confidently, then asked Sirius Black if the Order of the Phoenix had any emergency signals.
Sirius Black thought for a moment, raised his wand, and fired a Crimson Beam into the sky.
"As long as Dumbledore sees it, he'll understand that something very urgent is happening here."
At this, Sirius Black's face showed a hint of relief, and Harry felt the same way. Nothing was more reassuring than knowing Dumbledore was nearby.
However, Ivan felt a lingering unease. Only he knew that Dumbledore had been affected by the Dark Magic from the Horcrux and was in poor condition. He wasn't sure if Dumbledore could defeat Voldemort.
"Wait... Why is there no sound?" Sirius Black said, puzzled. Normally, the spell should have exploded in mid-air, revealing a soaring Phoenix.
Sirius Black suddenly looked up at the sky, where a dark, ominous cloud loomed. Something seemed to be stirring within the cloud.
"It's Voldemort... the Dark Lord's magic! He's coming!" Ivan said urgently. He had thought that his magic eye and Sirius Black's Killing Curse, even if they couldn't seriously injure Voldemort, would at least force him to rest for a while. He hadn't expected Voldemort to arrive so quickly!
"Run!" Sirius Black shouted, quickly pulling Harry's hand and running down the hill.
"Incendio!" Ivan cast a Fire Spell as he ran, setting the surrounding area ablaze.
Without a specific signal, setting the mountain on fire was the most obvious way to attract attention. If Dumbledore was nearby, he would definitely come to investigate, either in person or by sending someone.
In fact, Ivan wanted to use Fiendfyre even more. Fiendfyre was extremely distinctive, and Wizards could easily tell that it wasn't a natural flame but the effect of Dark Magic.
As the fire illuminated the area, the sky grew darker, casting a shadow of unease over Ivan and his companions.
Suddenly, a haunting wail carried by the sea breeze reached their ears. The black mist in the sky condensed into a eerie Skull Face, with its mouth wide open. A Great Serpent made entirely of black mist descended from the sky, rushing toward the three of them.
The moment they saw the black Great Serpent, a flood of negative emotions—fear, despair, and pain—overwhelmed them, eroding their courage and resolve.
The dense black mist seemed to strip away life itself. As the black Great Serpent swiftly swept over the treetops, the once lush leaves withered and fell.
