Chapter 704: The Appointment
Chapter 704: The Appointment
Chen Chuan glanced around and, without giving it much thought, left the office and headed for the fifth floor of the building via the elevator.
As the elevator doors parted, he made his way directly to the recovery area of the medical team.
Following An Dun's guidance, he took the dedicated passageway for officials and arrived at the security room marked as 509.
The person in charge, having received the notification, put down his work and hurried over, greeting Chen Chuan respectfully, "Manager Chen."
Chen Chuan inquired, "Can I question her?"
The person in charge replied, "She's awake. Next is physical rehabilitation and psychological treatment. As long as it's not too long, questioning won't hinder the process."
Chen Chuan nodded and gestured. The person in charge immediately began the verification process using the biological domain, then used the dedicated key to open the door.
Chen Chuan entered. At that moment, Yang Ling was half-sitting on the recovery bed. There was a glass partition in front of the bed, and the areas where she had been fused were covered with a layer of nutrient paste. Her face was also covered by a layer of restorative biological membrane, and various nutrient fluid tubes were attached to her body.
Chen Chuan approached the glass partition, picked up the World Credential on the side, and asked, "Miss Yang, do you remember what happened before?"
Yang Ling took a deep breath and said with difficulty, "I remember." But as she spoke, her face turned a little pale.
Her mind was in chaos, alternating between her own thoughts and the various data and information transmitted by the active consciousness entity. Whenever she tried to focus, she felt a throbbing headache.
Chen Chuan immediately understood the root of her problem: it was caused by the forced separation of their minds during the fusion process.
In reality, while this separation did cause some damage, fortunately, because the fusion time was relatively short, the trauma wasn't deep. If the fusion had gone deeper, even if their bodies had separated, the consciousness entity might have suffered irreparable trauma.
After a glance, Chen Chuan said, "Pay attention to your breathing and follow my instructions." As he spoke, he began to guide Yang Ling's breathing rhythm.
Yang Ling adjusted her breathing according to Chen Chuan's instructions. After a while, her headache significantly improved, and she felt more relaxed. Her eyes, like a little deer's, also seemed brighter than before.
Chen Chuan said, "You possess psychic talent. As long as your will is firm and your goal is clear, following this breathing technique will make your recovery easier."
Yang Ling nodded and said softly, "Thank you."
Chen Chuan said, "Rest well. After you recover, I have some questions for you."
Yang Ling nodded and said, "I'll cooperate." Seeing that Chen Chuan was about to leave, she sat up a little and asked, "Manager Chen..." As Chen Chuan paused, she asked, "What will the Processing Bureau do with me...?"
Chen Chuan said, "I have a rough understanding of your relationship with Unifying Heavy Control. Don't think too much about it for now. We can discuss it after you recover." After putting down the World Credential, he turned and left.
Once outside, he didn't return to the office but continued walking outside. On the way, he contacted Gu Duanzhang, the captain he had assigned to the task, and asked, "Captain Gu, how's it going?"
Gu Duanzhang reported, "Manager, according to your instructions, we've maintained the blockade since yesterday, ensuring no personnel entry or exit, and no information has been transmitted out."
Chen Chuan acknowledged, "Unifying Heavy Control has been blocked since yesterday. All aspects of communication have been strictly prohibited. Although the company headquarters might obtain some information through other channels, by the time they figure it out, it will be at least a few days later."
By then, Chen Chuan believed he would have mostly sorted things out, and they wouldn't be able to turn the situation around.
He asked a few more questions and, seeing no issues on Gu Duanzhang's end, ended the call.
By this time, he had reached the entrance, and on his way, he encountered only a few personnel from the bureau.
He had been focused on his own tasks and hadn't paid much attention to the bureau. Now, he asked, "Why are there so few people in the bureau today?"
An Dun replied, "Managers Wen and Han have task assignments, and they've each taken a large number of personnel to temporarily support various regions."
Chen Chuan checked and found that Manager Wen had been stationed at the port area for half a month, and Manager Han had to attend an important meeting that evening.
This was a commercial negotiation meeting between the Union Delegation and the Central City side, and the Union seemed to have invited an important diplomatic official from the Linax Federation.
As many government officials were attending, Manager Han, as the person in charge of security guarantees for the Processing Bureau, had to be present. Therefore, a large number of Processing Bureau personnel were assigned to the task.
Chen Chuan tapped the World Credential and immediately viewed a recorded negotiation video from the internal platform.
On one side of the long negotiation table sat the Central City politicians, including those from the Government Hall and the City Council. On the opposite side were the key members of the Union Delegation.
The entire grand conference hall was illuminated like daylight, and camera flashes flickered from time to time.
Security personnel stood around, many of them from the Processing Bureau, and Manager Han, as the manager of the Processing Bureau, stood behind the politicians in charge of security.
Chen Chuan glanced back and raised his eyebrows slightly. Although Han Guanli looked the same as usual, something seemed off to him.
The scene on the platform lasted only a couple of seconds, but it gave ample screen time to the Linax Federation's delegation, specifically Admiral Archimedes, the foreign affairs representative from the Federation.
This man, in his sixties, had a stern and rigid face, with grayish-white hair, but it was evident he was of mixed heritage. On his chest, he wore the Federation's emblem—two intertwined rings, one blue and the other silver, with a three-dimensional lightning bolt piercing through the center.
Admiral Archimedes was a hawkish figure within the delegation and a military official.
After the death of Harford, he had been entangled with the Central City's government, insisting that all those responsible for the incident should pay the price.
However, relations between the Great Harmony and the Linax Federation had already been strained, and even with the City Council and media backing him, the government had ignored his demands.
After watching the brief footage, Chen Chuan exited the Processing Bureau's main hall and left the platform. He contacted Ling Zhuli as he walked towards his armored saloon.
"Ling Assistant, was there something you wanted to discuss with me?"
Ling Zhuli's deep voice came from inside, "Chen Guanli, I recall telling you that I would show you the proof I mentioned. Now, I think it's time, but do you have the time?"
Chen Chuan's eyes flashed slightly, "Oh? I do have time."
Ling Zhuli smiled, "Then please come to the Academy. I'll be waiting for you there."
"Alright, I'll be there shortly," Chen Chuan replied.
He checked the time; it was 11:40.
In the 1-6-1-9-1-9-1-8-1-9-1-3-1-0 version!
As he approached his vehicle, the guards saluted him, and the attendant opened the door. He got in and said, "To the Wu Yi Academy."
The car immediately started and drove forward, followed by the rest of the convoy.
At that moment, in the parking lot, Sun Rao and Wei Yuji had just finished their daytime patrol and returned.
They had another patrol scheduled in two hours, which might last until dawn. So, instead of finding a place to eat, they stayed there, munching on nutrient paste and relaxing by listening to a program on their World Credential devices.
Sun Rao noticed Chen Chuan exiting the building and couldn't help but watch as his car drove away.
Wei Yuji, seeing his expression, said, "Senior, no need to look. The person has left. You should face reality and not have unrealistic fantasies."
Sun Rao took out another nutrient paste and ate it silently, "Junior Wei, after all this time, why are you still patrolling with me? With your performance, you should be able to take on more valuable tasks."
Wei Yuji replied, "Senior, the Central City is very dangerous. I'm not ready to face the danger yet, so I think this patrol is more suitable for me."
"Dangerous?"
"Isn't it? And it's getting more dangerous."
Sun Rao remained silent. Wei Yuji was right; after all the events of the past year, the situation in the Central City indeed felt more complex and perilous than before.
Wei Yuji continued, "I've studied Senior Chen's career path, and it's not that complicated. His current position is a result of his hard work and real combat experience. There's no water in his achievements, but if he had failed even once, he would have fallen by the wayside. I don't want to gamble on those odds."
"Junior, aren't you brave? At the Three Cities Wasteland, you faced the person despite the warnings," Sun Rao said.
"That wasn't bravery but self-awareness and clarity about others. But Senior, although you seem to follow the rules, I know..." Wei Yuji pointed at his head, "Your thoughts are filled with unrealistic ideas."
Sun Rao's thoughts were exposed, and he couldn't help but raise his voice, "People have dreams!"
Wei Yuji acknowledged, "It's good that you know it's a dream. Senior, listen to my advice: donados and unrealistic dreams are not worth pursuing. It's better for both you and others."
At 12:10, the armored saloon stopped in front of the Xuan Gong Tower.
Chen Chuan stepped out and glanced up at the red silhouette above, nodding to indicate that everyone should wait there. He then entered the tower.
Holding the Snow Lady Sword, he walked through the hall and took the elevator directly to the 90th floor, arriving at the Aerial Garden where he had previously met Ling Zhuli.
The elevator doors slowly opened, and he stepped inside.
Ling Zhuli stood in the center of the garden, wearing a black-purple imported leisure suit with striking white sideburns. He spread his hands and smiled, "Welcome, Chen Guanli. I've been waiting for you for a long time."
