Chapter 703: Sky City
Chapter 703: Sky City
Ryan and the others had set up camp on a wooden platform used for maintenance next to the mine’s sky car, giving them a clear view of the entire mine from their elevated position. However, the obstacles below prevented anyone from seeing Ryan and the others.
However, standing here indefinitely wasn’t a viable option, so Ryan and the others cast a Disillusionment Charm on themselves and prepared to leave in search of a nearby settlement. Since there was a mine and workers here, there would normally be a settlement nearby. Finding the nearest settlement after arriving in a new world was a crucial task.
Just as Ryan and the others were about to leave, Rose Crystal, who was on guard, suddenly pointed to the sky and whispered, “Big Brother, Granger, look what’s in the sky!”
Liam and Hermione immediately looked up in the direction Rose Crystal was pointing, and they saw a light speck falling from the clouds, heading straight for where they were standing.
“Is it a meteor?” Hermione murmured to herself, but she quickly dismissed the idea. “No, that’s not right. If it were a meteor, it wouldn’t be falling this slowly—what, it’s a person?”
After casting an Eagle Eye spell on herself, Hermione could clearly see what the glowing object was. She immediately turned to Ryan and the others and said, “Quick, we need to think of something. I can’t be sure how long the magic on that child will last. If the magic effect wears off before she lands, it could be disastrous.”
“People who make such grand entrances are usually the main characters, so it should be fine,” Liam thought to himself, but he was also worried that their presence might alter the original story. So, he made a quick decision and summoned his pink wings, flying toward the person falling from the sky.
When he reached about fifty meters above the ground and approached the person from below, Liam saw that it was a girl in a blue dress with twin ponytails and a pink headband.
However, the reason for her slow descent wasn’t due to her own power, but a thumb-sized pendant around her neck that was emitting a blue light. Liam could sense that the pendant was releasing magic, creating a Slow Fall effect. The girl herself was unconscious.
“Now I know where we are,” Liam thought as he saw the girl. Thank goodness, this wasn’t a grim mythological world but a more heartwarming fairy tale world.
Since the girl was still slowly descending and unconscious, Liam extended his arms and carried her to the small hill near the mine. He could sense that Hermione and Rose Crystal had already left the mine through a Short-range Teleportation and were now near the ruins beside it.
Sure enough, when Liam followed the soul bond and joined Hermione and Rose Crystal, he found that they had already set up tents and a campfire at the edge of a building’s ruins. Hermione came over as soon as she saw Liam carrying the girl.
“So, the girl who fell from the sky is this one?” she said, reaching out to grab the girl’s arm. A blood-colored mist emerged from her hand, probing the girl. “The reason for her unconsciousness is rapid hypothermia after falling, along with exhaustion of her soul, likely due to fear and anxiety. Let me take her. I think a good night’s sleep in a warm, soft bed by the fireplace in our tent should set her right by morning.”
“Good idea,” Liam said, handing the girl to Hermione, who then carried her into the tent. As soon as Hermione entered, Liam heard the sound of running from a distance. Soon, a boy in worn but neat work clothes, carrying an iron can, ran up to them.
“Sir, hello,” the boy said, appearing somewhat nervous as he saw Liam’s expensive attire by the campfire’s light. However, his kindness soon overcame his hesitation. “I saw a glowing girl fall in this direction. Have you seen her?”
"She fell into our care, but the girl was chilled when she fell from the sky and has also experienced a lot of shock. So I had my wife take her to the tents to rest", Liam explained to the protagonist of the story. "So right now, it wouldn't be appropriate for us to enter those tents. However, if you're concerned about the girl, you can come by for breakfast tomorrow. I think she should be awake by then."
"You're right, sir. It would indeed be very impolite to enter a lady's bedroom at this time", the young man nodded and then added, "By the way, my name is Baru. How should I address you?"
"Calling me Liam is fine. There's no need for so many formalities, especially since I'm not much older than you", Liam said gently. "By the way, I noticed you were rushing up here with something in your hands. Is there something you need to do?"
"Right, I need to bring my master his meal—see you tomorrow morning", Baru said, slapping his forehead. He then quickly ran in the direction of the mine where Ryan and the others had been earlier.
"Ah, to be young", a deliberately mature voice came from behind. Liam turned to see Rose Crystal, who had been hiding in the tents, flying out with her hands behind her back, watching Baru as he ran away.
"You're not even as old as he is", Liam said, noticing that Rose Crystal was about to pounce and tug at his hair. He quickly changed the subject. "By the way, how is the girl doing now?"
"She's doing well. Hermione checked her thoroughly and said she should be fully recovered by tomorrow morning", Rose Crystal said, quickly regaining her serious demeanor.
"That's good to hear", Liam said, and together with Rose Crystal, he walked into the tents. This was an improved version of the tents that Liam had bought a few years ago and then imbued with countless powerful magics. The tents' defenses were now on par with some fixed structures that had magical protections, and they had also been developed with several other useful functions.
"The child is in good health", Liam said as he entered the living room of the tents, just as Hermione came out of the guest room and closed the door. "I just remembered which world this is."
Liam was initially taken aback, but then he recalled the last time they had visited the Mib world, where they had packed a large amount of cultural data. The entertainment data from that world was not much different from what Liam had known in his previous life, so it wasn't too surprising that Hermione could guess the world they were in.
However, Liam's moment of contemplation was mistaken by Hermione as disbelief, so she continued, "I think this place is from Sky City, that touching fairy tale world."
"Ah, you're right. I was just a bit distracted", Liam said to Hermione. "So this world is indeed a good place for us to rest."
"Not just rest, Liam", Hermione said, looking at him. "Don't forget, this world has something very valuable—the Flight Stone, which can make a massive city fly and provide it with abundant energy. What does that remind you of?"
"—Mithril Core", Liam said, immediately recalling the lost treasure from the Feyrealms after Hermione's reminder. "And it's a Mithril Core that doesn't require the Weave."
"Exactly. We need to find Sky City Laputa and study that Flight Stone thoroughly", Hermione said. "Then, when we return, we can build our own floating Magic tower. With such a tower, we can ensure that when we face the Dark Lord, we can completely eliminate him, leaving him no chance of escape."
