Chapter 701: Initiative
Chapter 701: Initiative
On the sea wall of the Ocean Zone, Supervisor Wen sat in an armed luxury vehicle, gazing at the distant Bai Niao District and the flying ships passing by overhead.
For the past few days, he had been keeping a close eye on the area without rest.
Large companies and giant enterprises in the Central City often possessed mature active consciousness bodies, which could directly open passages to the Fusion Zone.
Of course, when doing such things, it must be approved by the Central City, so theoretically, no matter which passage they took, it would be under the control and supervision of the Central City.
The issue was that within the Central City, in addition to the Government Hall, the Municipal Parliament also had certain authority, a legacy issue from the early days of the Da Shun establishment.
However, in the Jinbei Dao area, new regulations were being promoted. Once passed, they could gradually take over and remove some of the Municipal Parliament's powers. But the Municipal Parliament wouldn't just stand by and watch their authority be taken away, so they were also trying to resist. Many of the current situations could be seen as a result of the two sides' confrontation.
Supervisor Wen knew that the Union's people must have entered the Fusion Zone through the Parliament-controlled passages. If the Union and the Linaksis Federation delegation truly cooperated, it would be equivalent to them having access to these passages.
Although the Municipal Parliament couldn't openly do this due to the surface order, it was entirely possible for them to let one or two people slip through each time.
And he was sure that as long as he relaxed his vigilance here, whether or not the two parties cooperated, the unmonitored passages would "accidentally" allow a large number of people to pass through.
So, for the past few days, he had been conducting spot checks on the Linaksis Federal personnel, tracking the movements of every key individual, and keeping a close eye on all cross-sea traffic.
These people hadn't been idle either; from the start, they had been constantly complaining and protesting, refusing to cooperate, or outright delaying, while also using legal means to file complaints and lawsuits against him.
However, he was an experienced investigation supervisor, and every step he took was by the book, with every action properly recorded. So far, he hadn't given anyone a handle on him.
Thanks to these proper procedures, and the fact that they were dealing with the Linaksis Federation, the Handling Bureau and the Government Hall had supported him, preventing anyone from interfering.
As long as he was willing to hold his ground, it would be difficult for the other side to do anything to him.
But he also knew that even Wu Ju was now under interrogation. If he continued, there would definitely be attempts to smear him or other operations, which was a matter of time, perhaps already underway.
"Supervisor," a young team member knocked on the car window, holding a briefcase.
Supervisor Wen looked and gestured for him to come in and speak. The young man opened the door, entered the car, and handed over the briefcase. Supervisor Wen took out a translated telegram and whispered, "The reply from the other side."
Supervisor Wen's expression turned serious. He took the telegram, which was a response from the Secret Department, and after confirming, he found that there was indeed evidence of the Linaksis Federation and the Union working together.
He pondered for a moment. Although the situation over the past few days seemed the same as usual, he could feel the pressure mounting. The staff below him had been taking turns for several shifts.
Once the other side made a move, he might be able to block it, but it was highly likely that some leaks would occur. Although it couldn't be called a complete failure, many efforts would be in vain, and it was indeed not a good strategy to always passively defend and wait for the enemy to attack.
He said, "Xiao Shao, I have a task for you."
The young man's expression turned solemn, and he straightened his body. "Supervisor, please instruct me."
Supervisor Wen tapped the Dimensional Token and sent him an early-prepared document. "Follow the arrangements in this document. Remember, don't take the initiative. No matter what news you hear, maintain your composure and don't panic."
The young man said solemnly, "I understand, Supervisor."
"Okay, you can go back first."
The young man saluted and said, "Then I'll take my leave." He opened the door, took the briefcase, and left.
Supervisor Wen sat alone in the car, deep in thought. After a while, he got out and walked to the sea wall, gazing at the rolling waves for over half an hour. Then, he tapped the Dimensional Token and contacted Supervisor Han.
After a while, the other side answered.
"This is Han."
Supervisor Wen smiled and said, "Supervisor Han, I've been thinking, and I'm willing to accept your proposal. So, I want to ask, how do you plan to act?"
The other side didn't answer immediately. After a short wait, a map of the Fusion Zone passages appeared on the Dimensional Token.
Supervisor Han's voice came through, "This passage is the most likely route for Linaksis Federal personnel to take."
Supervisor Wen looked at it, "The underground passage of Bai Niao District?" He nodded, "Yes, indeed. If I relax the supervision, they will definitely be on guard. Supervisor Han, do you have any good ideas?"
Supervisor Han said, "Things will happen naturally. Supervisor Wen, you don't need to actively relax supervision. Just wait for their counterattack. I believe this will happen soon.
Supervisor Wen, you can go with the flow. Give them a chance first, and then we'll concentrate our forces to strike them, aiming to cripple the Linaksis Federation!"
Supervisor Wen's heart stirred at these words. He said, "The plan is feasible to some extent... but it also requires the Linaksis Federation's cooperation. If they send fewer people, it might just be all talk and no action.
"So we can't give them too much time to think and prepare, Supervisor Wen. It's best to wait for them to make a move against you, and then you can put on an act, making it seem like you'll be able to get away soon. This will force them to make a decision quickly."
Supervisor Wen nodded in agreement, "That way, even if they know there's risk involved, they'll still take a chance."
Supervisor Han added, "Because the longer we wait, the less likely it is that we'll be able to obtain the relic. Each day that passes reduces our chances."
Supervisor Wen asked a question, "Supervisor Han, how many people can you mobilize?"
"More than half of my team, but not too many to avoid detection. These past few days, I've been constantly shuffling personnel, all in preparation for this."
Supervisor Wen nodded silently, then continued, "But success heavily relies on the accuracy of intelligence. I don't need to tell you that, Supervisor Han."
Supervisor Han, I'm sure, understands this."
"I can assure you that I have inside information. Even without waiting for the others, it won't delay anything. I believe Supervisor Wen won't be too particular about this."
"We should seize the opportunity when it arises."
Supervisor Wen raised his head and spoke with determination, "Good, then it's settled."
After the call, Supervisor Wen gazed at the vast ocean before him, its waves rising and falling. Once he made up his mind, he returned to the vehicle and began strategizing how to deploy his team without alerting their target.
He couldn't mobilize too many people; a large-scale operation would be difficult to conceal and might not be very effective. This time, they needed elite personnel who could make a difference at critical moments and, ideally, individuals who hadn't been involved before.
The reinforcements from other central cities could be useful; among them were several unexpectedly capable individuals, true rare talents.
He looked outside again, preparing to keep watch over the next few days and wait for the other party's move.
However, the attack came sooner than expected. Just half a day later, the Government Hall and the Handling Bureau received photos, documents, recordings, and even a witness testifying to Supervisor Wen's private dealings with Linaksis Federation personnel. One of Supervisor Wen's subordinates even came forward to testify against him.
This caused quite a stir, and although Supervisor Wen suspected it was a deliberate setup, the Handling Bureau couldn't ignore the substantial evidence. They immediately summoned him back for questioning.
His duties were handed over to others, but everyone knew that without his capabilities and prestige, not much could be accomplished.
Yet, just half a day later, news spread that much of the evidence had been proven fabricated, and Supervisor Wen might soon return to his original position.
During this time, in hidden places, unseen undercurrents quietly flowed.
October 5th, 7:20 PM.
Supervisor Wen sat in his supervisor's office with his eyes closed, seemingly waiting for something. In truth, he had already resolved his issue during lunch and could have returned to his team. But he remained still, waiting.
At 7:30 PM, the boundary token suddenly chimed, and Supervisor Han's voice came through, "According to inside information, at 11:30 PM and around 2:00 AM, two teams of Federation personnel might cross through the passage."
Supervisor Wen didn't ask further questions, nor did he inquire about the source of the information. Instead, he decisively said, "Good, I'll get ready to move out."
He stood up, picked up his personal belongings, and left the office, heading directly to the internal elevator. He pressed the button, and the elevator slowly descended.
He knew many eyes were on him, so this time, he took the Handling Bureau's internal fusion zone passage. Once he reached the fusion zone, he would take the train there to circle around to the exit on the other side, joining Supervisor Han to surround and capture the Federation personnel exiting from there!
Soon, the elevator reached the bottom, and the doors slowly opened. Supervisor Wen stepped out, he was greeted by a line of Handling Bureau members who had been pre-arranged. They all saluted him as he exited.
Supervisor Wen returned the salute, and after lowering his hand, he strode forward. With each step, the members on both sides immediately turned and followed behind him. The underground passage echoed with the rhythmic footsteps.
On the iron tracks ahead, a train bound for the fusion zone was already waiting.
Supervisor Wen led his team onto the train and took a seat. He pondered for a moment, then tapped the boundary token to find Chen Chuan's contact signal. He seemed to want to contact him, but after a thought, he decided against it. Instead, he edited a timed voice message and sent it out. This way, if he didn't cancel it, the message would automatically send at the designated time.
Just then, the sound of a train whistle reached his ears, and beneath him, the train began its slow journey, heading towards the other end of the deep tunnel.
