Chapter 700: Lu Jiaxin's Side Story 4
Chapter 700: Lu Jiaxin's Side Story 4
Lu Jiaxin met with Xie Kaixiao at the Peninsula Hotel. After not seeing each other for a year and a half, she noticed he had significantly more white hair, but his spirit seemed excellent.
After Su Heyuan poured tea for Xie Kaixiao, he signaled Nie Zhan with a glance. As they had agreed beforehand, Nie Zhan readily followed him out.
An hour passed, and the door remained closed, causing Nie Zhan to furrow his brows. But when two hours went by and the person still hadn't emerged, he could barely contain his impatience.
Su Heyuan stopped him and said, "Mr. Nie, my uncle definitely has something important to discuss with Jiaxin. Let's be patient and wait a little longer."
Nie Zhan expressed his concern, "If it were any other day, I wouldn't say anything, but Jiaxin is pregnant now. The doctor advised against tiring her, and it's been two hours already. Her body can't take this."
Su Heyuan thought it was just a conversation and not physical labor, so he believed there shouldn't be an issue. However, he dared not voice this thought, knowing that Nie Zhan would explode. "Please be patient and wait a little longer."
In the blink of an eye, half an hour passed, and each time Nie Zhan tried to knock on the door, Su Heyuan held him back. When Nie Zhan's patience wore thin and he shook off Su Heyuan, the door finally opened.
Not seeing Lu Jiaxin, Nie Zhan anxiously asked, "Where's my wife?"
Xie Kaixiao smiled and said, "Jiaxin is eating. Mr. Nie, the next time you come to the Capital City, I'll treat you properly."
Nie Zhan nodded in agreement and hurried into the room, where he saw Lu Jiaxin eating loquats. Finally, his worried heart calmed.
Sitting beside Lu Jiaxin, Nie Zhan asked, "Are you tired? If you are, go and freshen up, then get some sleep."
After eating a loquat, Lu Jiaxin shook her head with a smile, "I'm not tired. After we finish eating, let's take a stroll outside. I haven't been here in a while, and I want to see how much it has changed."
Nie Zhan disagreed and suggested, "It's already past eight, you should rest early. After the baby is born, I'll accompany you back here, and we can stroll for as long as you like."
Lu Jiaxin proposed a compromise, "I can't sleep now either. Let's go for a drive. Just an hour, and then we'll come back to rest."
Nie Zhan reluctantly agreed, finding it hard to refuse her.
Upon returning to their home in Hong Kong, Nie Zhan didn't inquire about what the two had discussed inside. Since Jiaxin didn't mention it, he assumed there was a reason for her silence, and his curiosity wasn't that strong.
Su Heyuan, being tactful, waited until the second day after their return to Hong Kong and felt that Lu Jiaxin had rested enough before approaching her, "Jiaxin, did my uncle talk to you about the Southern League?"
Lu Jiaxin didn't hide it and nodded, "Yes, the Southern League has become increasingly chaotic this year, but many still don't believe it will disintegrate."
Su Heyuan expressed his frustration, "These stubborn old folks. If we don't make preparations in advance and wait until the Southern League actually disintegrates, we won't even get a sip of the soup."
In the past two years, he had been closely involved with the Southern League and understood the situation well. With his blind trust in Lu Jiaxin, he believed the Southern League would disintegrate within two years. With such a tight timeline, they couldn't afford to delay preparations; otherwise, the Western powers would seize all the benefits.
Lu Jiaxin joked, "It won't be that bad. If the Southern League does disintegrate, we'll move our partners' machinery and experts here."
Su Heyuan responded with five words, "You're really thinking big."
Lu Jiaxin was genuinely planning to do just that, but she would only provide the funding, with Su Heyuan as the executor. With over half a year left to prepare, there was no need to rush.
When Jiaxin was five months pregnant, Nie Zhan returned from the ancestral home and suddenly told her something, "Grandfather said today that the baby should take your surname, and the next child can take mine."
Lu Jiaxin was surprised and asked, "You told Grandfather about this?"
"I informed Grandfather as soon as I learned of your pregnancy," Nie Zhan replied, believing that significant matters like this should be shared with elders early on. Otherwise, when the second child is born with the mother's surname, Grandfather would be shocked.
Lu Jiaxin smiled and asked, "Did he scold you at the time?
Nie Zhan smiled and said, "He didn't scold me. He knows that if you don't want to have a child, I agreed without hesitation."
The truth was not as simple as he made it out to be. Elder Mr. Nie had initially disagreed and even scolded Nie Zhan for his decision. But Nie Zhan argued that since he was taking his wife's surname, why couldn't their child take his wife's surname too? In terms of financial resources, Lu Jiaxin was wealthier than him, and in terms of sacrifice, Lu Jiaxin had endured ten months of pregnancy and the pain of childbirth, which he couldn't compare to. Elder Mr. Nie couldn't convince him otherwise, so he had no choice but to accept it.
Lu Jiaxin knew that the situation wasn't as simple as Nie Zhan made it seem, but as long as the outcome was what she wanted, the process didn't matter.
However, later that night, as Lu Jiaxin was getting ready for bed, she suddenly realized something: "Your grandfather suddenly suggested that the baby take my surname. Does he already know the baby's gender?"
Only after learning that the baby in her womb was a girl did Elder Mr. Nie propose that the child take his surname. If it were a boy, he would definitely not have agreed.
Nie Zhan didn't help conceal the truth and nodded, saying, "Yes, Grandpa already knows the baby's gender. Jiaxin, as long as we love our child, it doesn't matter if Grandpa doesn't. It's fine if he doesn't love her."
Lu Jiaxin was furious, "We haven't even asked about the baby's gender ourselves, what right does he have to find out? And what's wrong with having a girl? Girls can hold up half the sky too."
When Nie Zhan received the phone call, he immediately understood the reason and was also angry. But he couldn't do anything; Grandpa was so old, and he didn't dare scold him in case he suffered a stroke from the shock.
"Don't be angry. Grandpa is getting old and a bit confused. We shouldn't argue with him."
Lu Jiaxin didn't say anything harsh, but the next day, while Nie Zhan was at work, she packed her things and moved back to her luxurious mansion in Shallow Bay. By the time she returned, two houses had been built, providing more spacious living quarters for the future.
Nie Zhan soon received news and left his work to rush to the Lu residence. When he arrived, he found Lu Jiaxin in the living room, trimming flower branches and humming a tune, looking in high spirits.
He walked up to her and hugged her, smiling as he said, "You're not angry anymore?"
Lu Jiaxin remained calm and said, "What good will getting angry do? Can I go and scold him? Since I can't, why should I make things difficult for myself? But from now on, don't expect me to bring the child to the ancestral home."
Since they looked down on the fact that she was carrying a girl, there was no need to meet them in the future. Yes, she was that petty.
Nie Zhan immediately agreed.
When Lu Jiaxin was seven months pregnant, she received a call from Lu Jiaguang, informing her that Lu Hongjun was in the hospital. It wasn't due to illness but because he had been pushed down by Ding Jing and was injured.
Upon learning that Lu Hongjun only had a bone fracture and was not in life-threatening danger, she asked, "How did Ding Jing get out of prison?"
Lu Jiaguang explained that Ding Jing had saved someone who attempted suicide in prison, and his behavior and attitude had been excellent, so he was granted a reduced sentence and released early: "I checked his records, and his performance was indeed outstanding."
After Ding Jing went to prison, Lu Jiaxin had hesitated and decided not to take further action. If she were caught, it would hinder her future.
Lu Jiaxin frowned and said, "He has a big guy by his side to take care of him, why was he still pushed down by Ding Jing?"
Lu Jiaguang paused before replying, "That day, I had made plans with Third Uncle to visit Madam Gu at Shichahai, so I gave the big guy a day off. But just before we were about to leave, I received a call from my unit saying there was an emergency, so I rushed back. Third Uncle didn't go to Shichahai and stayed home to rest. Coincidentally, when that woman came looking for Lu Hongjun, Auntie had gone out to buy groceries."
Lu Jiaxin didn't blame Lu Jiaguang but said, "I'm pregnant now and can't go back. You find two caregivers to take good care of him. When he's discharged, I'll arrange for someone to protect him. As for Ding Jing injuring him, find a good attorney and make sure he's punished severely."
Lu Jiaguang quietly agreed.
