Chapter 70: I, Uchiha Madara, Acknowledge You as a Survivor
Chapter 70: I, Uchiha Madara, Acknowledge You as a Survivor
Feng Ye narrowed his eyes slightly and walked nonchalantly towards the only open shop in the village, a teahouse that also seemed rather deserted.
The teahouse owner was a little surprised to have a customer but quickly served tea and snacks when he saw the amount of money Feng Ye took out.
In the shadows, several pairs of eyes watched as Feng Ye entered the teahouse.
One of them, his expression shifting, quickly disappeared into the rain and made his way to a small house on the north side of the village. He leaped directly to the second floor and climbed through the window.
"Boss... there's a ninja here."
"A ninja?"
A scarred man sitting cross-legged in the room opened his eyes and asked in a low voice, "What kind of ninja?"
"He's young, probably only twelve or thirteen. He's not wearing a forehead protector, so he might be from Amegakure, or possibly another village. He doesn't seem like a missing-nin."
The scarred ninja narrowed his eyes. "Just one?"
The appearance of a teenage ninja without a forehead protector in the village was undoubtedly a cause for caution.
The subordinate nodded, a cold light flashing in his eyes. "Yes. It's unclear if he's noticed us... Boss, should we take him out preemptively?"
"No."
The scarred ninja shook his head. "Go and notify everyone to leave this place."
The subordinate was taken aback.
They were going to evacuate just because of a young ninja whose origins and intentions were unknown, and they didn't even know if he had spotted them. Was their boss being overly cautious?
"Go!" the scarred ninja urged, standing up and his eyes flashing. "I don't know if that young ninja is just passing through or if he's after us, but it's a time of war, and we must be cautious. Leaving the village for half a month is the most prudent course of action."
As a deserter and missing-nin from Iwagakure, he had managed to stay alive and even build a small force by being absolutely cautious and careful!
Any conflict with ninjas must be avoided if possible.
Especially those of unknown origins.
Otherwise, if they left any trace, and the ninja village behind them launched an investigation, it would spell big trouble. They couldn't afford to attract attention, not from the five great ninja villages, nor the smaller ones like Amegakure or Kusagakure.
"Yes."
After his initial surprise, the subordinate nodded and quickly left.
The scarred ninja retrieved a package from the cabinet, placing stacks of cash from the cabinet into it, along with a long wooden box.
Moments later, over a dozen ninjas gathered in the small courtyard, all wearing straw hats and raincoats.
"Boss, it's just a kid. Aren't we being too careful?"
"Yeah, that kid might not even be after us. He could just be passing through. Ignoring him would be fine."
Many of the ninjas frowned, voicing their disagreement.
Evacuating the entire village just because of a young ninja of unknown origin and intent seemed overly cautious, especially during a time of war. Leaving the village might not even be safer; they could run into a large group of ninjas and be in grave danger.
"... Those who want to stay can stay."
The scarred ninja, with his bundle on his back, emerged and paid no heed to the group's concerns. In a cold tone, he said, "Those who want to follow me are welcome to do so."
With that, he left the courtyard and headed out of the village.
The ninjas in the courtyard looked at each other, and after a moment's hesitation, several of them hurried after their boss. Three or four ninjas were left behind, their expressions uncertain.
"The boss is too cautious."
"He's just a kid. If we're worried about being exposed, we could just take him out."
"Yeah, during this war, even the great ninja villages wouldn't bother about the death of one ninja. They wouldn't go out of their way to investigate and cause a fuss over one missing ninja."
...
Moments later, on the bank of a river east of the village.
The Scarred Ninja led his seven subordinates away from the village and arrived at the riverbank, preparing to cross the small river. However, he suddenly halted his steps.
On the opposite bank of the river stood a figure, seemingly no older than thirteen, without a straw hat, his silver-white hair drenched by the relentless rain.
It was Feng Ye.
Feng Ye wore a peculiar expression.
Staring at the Scarred Ninja who led the group, he said, "There's a reason why you've survived in this dangerous world for so long..."
This guy actually decided to run away immediately after hearing that he had entered the village! If it weren't for the fact that his subordinates were relatively more normal and chose to ambush him in the teahouse, and he had killed a few of them and interrogated one before rushing over, this guy would have quietly escaped!
The most crucial thing was...
If this guy knew who he was, that would be one thing, but he didn't recognize him at all. He didn't know that he was a ninja from Konoha, nor was he aware of his exploits on the Grass Country battlefield. He had simply judged that he was a ninja and then immediately fled!
"I, Uchiha Madara, acknowledge you as a survivor!"
"Do you have a Kusanagi sword in your possession?" Feng Ye asked directly.
The ninjas on the opposite bank glared coldly at Feng Ye, and one of them couldn't help but retort, "You seem a bit too arrogant for your own good, brat."
However...
Just as he finished speaking, the Scarred Ninja suddenly pulled out a wooden box from his bundle and threw it towards Feng Ye. The box exploded in mid-air, revealing a Kusanagi sword in its sheath, which fell towards Feng Ye.
This turn of events stunned not only the ninjas but also Feng Ye himself.
"Here you go," the Scarred Ninja said softly before turning and fleeing at full speed.
Silence fell.
The atmosphere suddenly became awkward.
The remaining ninjas stared in astonishment at the scene, momentarily too shocked to react.
The brat had come for the Kusanagi sword, and their boss had simply handed it over and then run away? Who was this brat, and why was he so frightening?!
"Hmm, interesting," Feng Ye muttered as he caught the Kusanagi sword. He paused for a second, then clicked his tongue in surprise, a faint smile appearing on his face. This was the first time he had encountered such a ninja.
He had been fully prepared to kill and take the sword, but his opponent was so cowardly that he had handed over the Kusanagi sword without even putting up a fight. This was quite different from the plot he had imagined.
"... "
Among the Scarred Ninja's subordinates, one of them, after recovering from his shock, stared at the Kusanagi sword in Feng Ye's hand, his eyes gradually narrowing as greed took over.
The Kusanagi sword!
A divine artifact, the Kusanagi sword!
If they could get their hands on it, they could sell it and live a wealthy and fulfilling life for the rest of their days, without having to take on dangerous underground world missions for paltry rewards!
Previously, the Kusanagi sword had always been in the hands of their boss, and knowing the Scarred Ninja's strength, he hadn't dared to entertain any thoughts of stealing it. But now, their boss had given the Kusanagi sword to a brat!
The brat in front of them was likely a ninja from one of the Great Ninja Villages, someone even their boss didn't want to provoke. Indeed, the Great Ninja Villages were formidable and commanded respect.
But...
Fortune favors the bold.
If they took care of this brat here and now, stole the Kusanagi sword, and then sold it in the underground world before hiding among civilians, the Great Ninja Villages might not even be able to track them down!
Someone took a deep breath, their eyes shimmering with uncertainty before finally settling on a decision. Chakra flowed within their body as they slowly moved their hand towards their throwing knives.
