Chapter 70: Confrontation
The seven or eight burly men stood calmly before the furious villagers of Jiu Li Village, their expressions unshaken—utterly relaxed, as if they didn’t regard these country folk as the slightest threat.
When Zhang Da Ye barked out a warning, the man with a large black mole on his face narrowed his eyes.
“I remember you, old man. Back when we last came here, you were the one leading the plea—begging us to spare Lu Ming’s two little brats, weren’t you?”
“But we showed mercy,” he sneered, “let those two runts live… and yet, you scum dared to lie to us, the Black Wolf Gang!”
Zhang Da Ye froze. “We never lied to you!”
“Don’t play dumb,” the Black Mole Man snapped. “You claimed back then that you’d sold off every inch of the Lu family’s land and property—used the proceeds to settle Lu Ming’s debts, didn’t you?”
“That’s right!” Zhang Da Ye snapped back, fury rising. “If not for that, how do you think we’d have let you leave so easily? You’d have slaughtered them both!”
“Still denying it?” the Black Mole Man laughed coldly. “We specifically agreed—every single coin from the sale was to be handed over, no exceptions. And what did you do? You stole part of it! What kind of nerve is that?”
“We didn’t steal a single coin!” Zhang Da Ye roared. “We didn’t just hand over the money—we added our own! Fearing you’d still demand more, we pooled what little we had and sent it all to you!”
Now, hearing these monsters accuse them of theft after all that—Zhang Da Ye’s blood boiled. He could feel his veins throbbing in his temples.
“You’ve just spent the money and now want to come back and extort us!” he spat.
“Zhang Ye Ye,” Wang Da An thundered, face flushed red, gripping his hoe like a weapon, “what’s the point of talking? Let’s just fight them! We won’t let them take Xiao Yan!”
His shout ignited the others. Blood surged through their veins.
“Right! Let’s fight! We’re more than enough—how can they beat us all?”
Dozens of villagers brandished their hoes and wooden poles, charging forward with grim determination.
The Black Wolf Gang members—though strong and trained in martial arts—grew uneasy. Even their bravado cracked under the weight of so many furious villagers closing in.
Some looked nervous. Even the Black Mole Man, who had been shouting the loudest, faltered.
He’d spent his life bullying villages with the name of the Black Wolf Gang behind him—no one dared look him in the eye. But here, in this tiny Jiu Li Village, his intimidation had no effect.
The standoff teetered on the edge of violence—until the silent man at the front, a man with cold, shadowed eyes, finally spoke.
“Old man,” he said slowly, “you say you handed over every last coin from the sale of the Lu family’s land. Then answer me this—why do Lu Ming’s two children still have money on them?”
His voice was sharp, cutting.
“Not long ago, I saw with my own eyes—Lu Ming’s eldest son was wasting money at the Big Market, buying goods like a nobleman. The extravagance? Even I, Wu Ge, couldn’t help but envy him.”
He paused, glancing at Xiao Yan.
“And that little girl behind you—her clothes? Brand new. What do you say to that?”
Zhang Da Ye faltered. “That… that’s from Lu Qing’s master.”
“Master?” the man scoffed. “Since when does a master give money to his disciple? I’ve heard of disciples honoring their masters—but never the other way around. I know that money was kept back—meant for these two brats!”
“That’s a lie!” Zhang Da Ye shouted.
But the man wasn’t listening anymore.
He turned sharply. “Lao Qi. Go. Bring that girl here. Then find the other one.”
“Yes, Wu Ge!” the Black Mole Man stepped forward, moving toward the villagers.
“Stop!” Zhang Da Ye lunged, shielding Xiao Yan. Wang Da An raised his hoe, roaring, “What are you doing?!”
“What do you think?” the Black Mole Man sneered. “Lu Ming still owes us. If his brats have money, they’ll give it all to us.”
He grinned cruelly. “If they’re broke… well, the girl’s not bad-looking. Sell her to a flesh trader—should fetch a decent price. That’ll help cover her parents’ debt.”
“You dare!” Wang Da An’s eyes flared, the hoe trembling in his grip.
The man with the shadowed eyes stepped forward, voice like ice.
“Think carefully,” he said. “If you hand her over, there’ll be no consequences. But if you refuse… you’ll learn what happens when you cross the Black Wolf Gang.”
He paused, letting the silence thicken.
“No one has ever insulted us and walked away unharmed. Anyone who stands in our way… I promise you—their family will be wiped out.”
The words struck like a hammer.
The villagers froze.
No one doubted it. The Black Wolf Gang—especially Wu Ge’s crew—was infamous for their cruelty. They had no mercy, no conscience. And there were stories—too many stories—of villages destroyed, families broken, for daring to oppose them.
Seeing the villagers paralyzed by fear, the Black Mole Man let out a grotesque laugh.
He advanced, step by step.
This time, few dared to stop him.
Only Wang Da An stood firm—unmoving, defiant.
“Damn it,” the Black Mole Man growled, “you really think I’ll take your face?”
He lunged, grabbing Wang Da An’s hoe with one hand. Then he closed the distance, pressing his body against the man, raising his arm high—fingers splayed, aiming to strike.
The slap came with full force.
Wang Da An, untrained in combat, couldn’t dodge. If it landed, it would shatter his jaw, tear his face apart—teeth flying, blood splattering.
The villagers flinched, some even closing their eyes.
But then—just as the hand descended—another hand caught the Black Mole Man’s wrist.
“Friend,” a calm voice said, “you’ve got quite a temper.”
A pause.
Then, a small voice rang out.
“Brother!”
Xiao Yan’s eyes lit up.
And then—everyone gasped.
“A Qing?!!”
They all stared, stunned.
