Chapter 7: The Head Family Meeting!
Chapter 7: The Head Family Meeting!
Uchiha Mei walked to the center of the six Head Family Jonin who were seated in two opposing rows.
To Hei silently took his place behind her.
He was well aware of his standing within the Uchiha clan.
Even so, someone spoke up.
"Mei, why did you bring him here?"
The Jonin on the right, a robust and imposing figure, was the first to speak.
Uchiha Shota!
He was also an elite Jonin and the current leader of the hawkish faction.
"Uncle Shota, To Hei is my 'fiance,' isn't it normal for him to participate in the Head Family meeting?"
Uchiha Mei spoke as if she were discussing something mundane, without a hint of embarrassment.
Their engagement was well-known within the Uchiha clan, arranged by the old clan leader to secure a future for his granddaughter.
By not marrying outside the clan, she retained the opportunity for advancement and avoided the risk of losing influence to her husband. An in-law arrangement eliminated these concerns.
A tool!
This was why her original self had desperately wanted to escape this relationship.
But after To Hei took over, he found the arrangement quite agreeable.
Before his transmigration, such a luxurious and pampered life was a distant dream. Now, with food and comfort readily available, he had no reason to refuse.
Refusing such a life would have left him starving, let alone attending the Jonin Academy.
Now, with a "tool" like To Hei participating in the meeting, Uchiha Shota's questioning wasn't out of malice but rather curiosity.
"But you're not married yet, are you?"
Another Uchiha Jonin chimed in.
His words seemed similar to Uchiha Shota's, but his tone carried a hint of provocation.
The Head Family position wasn't set in stone, so he had his eyes on it.
However, more clan members supported Uchiha Mei, so he needed to undermine her authority to secure his own position.
Now, it was clear why this Jonin, Uchiha Hideo, was so confrontational.
"Today's meeting concerns him!"
Uchiha Mei's gaze swept over the six clan members.
Despite being only 13 years old, she faced the Head Family Jonin with unwavering confidence.
Commanding and authoritative!
To Hei, sitting behind her, silently praised her.
Though he had been in this body for two and a half years, their infrequent meetings meant he knew little about his fiancee beyond her reputation as a 'genius.'
Now, he was getting a clearer picture.
Strong and dominant!
"Alright, Mei, you called us here in such a hurry. What's the matter?"
The only female Jonin among the six spoke up.
Uchiha Shizuka!
She had another important role.
She was Uchiha Mei's mother's best friend and a staunch supporter of Mei.
It was thanks to her and Uchiha Shota's backing that the Head Family position remained secure.
"It's because of this..."
Uchiha Mei produced an undiluted vial of the original liquid.
A regular healing potion wouldn't be worth the village's pressure to protect To Hei.
After hearing her, the six Jonin's expressions were incredulous.
They all kept a close eye on To Hei, Uchiha Mei's 'fiance,' and were well aware of his performance at the Academy.
Labels like "waste" and "dead last" weren't given lightly.
They never expected him to produce something like this.
Similar to the Akimichi clan's secret medicine, but with a broader application.
It had to be handed over.
Not only was it not as rare as a secret potion, but it could be used by anyone, making it too valuable for the village to keep secret.
But the way they handled it was crucial.
For ordinary academy students, just being able to keep the healing potions and have some freedom would be a significant achievement.
However, when the Uchiha clan stepped in to negotiate, they could secure more benefits, and Tang Ping wouldn’t have to worry about his own safety.
Was the darkness of the shinobi world really just a myth? Even the Hokage, Sarutobi, had to rely on the Root organization to shoulder the dark tasks, showing just how dark the shinobi world truly was.
Finally, the elder members of the Uchiha clan reached an agreement.
The healing potions could be handed over in batches.
But the village would need to compensate the clan, and Tang Ping would receive one-tenth of that compensation, with the Uchiha clan bearing the pressure.
It might sound like a bad deal, but knowing the darkness of the shinobi world, this was actually a fair offer.
This was also why Tang Ping had a powerful ally in the Uchiha clan.
Otherwise, he would have been brainwashed and turned into a tool for the Root organization.
Realizing this, he decided to showcase his value.
Of course, Tang Ping had already discussed with Uchiha Mei what he needed, so it would be included in the deal.
That one-tenth of the compensation would be entirely converted into experimental equipment, materials, knowledge, and more.
Many of these items were things he had longed for.
So he not only had no complaints about the deal but was eagerly looking forward to it.
After the discussion, Tang Ping returned to his room.
Since only two people lived in the courtyard, his room was spacious, and even a basement had been cleared out for him to use as a laboratory.
The next day!
Tang Ping woke up early in the morning.
It wasn’t to go to school, but to attend the team assignment.
After graduation, they would form three-person squads and operate under the guidance of a mentor.
Unless they advanced to the rank of Chunin or Jonin, they wouldn’t be able to act independently.
If the incident from yesterday hadn’t occurred, Tang Ping would have been content to lie low and do nothing today.
But defeating Kakashi, the "White Fang's Son," and not graduating was simply impossible. So now he was officially a "registered shinobi," albeit without a basic salary.
If he wanted a salary, he would need a formal position.
For example, the Uchiha clan’s control over the Security Department wasn’t just for power; it also provided a stable "salary."
For registered shinobi within the village without formal positions, they had to earn their pay by completing missions.
Note that Tang Ping didn’t even have the option to refuse being assigned a position.
Why?
Because he was an academy student.
He was a ninja trained by the village, so he couldn’t refuse.
Uchiha clan-trained ninjas could refuse being assigned to the village’s active roster and become part of the clan’s private forces.
This was also why the Sarutobi clan in the anime could hide thousands of ninjas; they were trained privately.
Otherwise, if they were trained by the academy, they would have to be assigned to the village’s active roster and follow the village’s orders.
Tang Ping understood this system, which is why he chose to slack off rather than drop out of the academy.
Because whether he lived or died, he belonged to Konoha, leaving him with no other choice.
The only way to retire would be if the village decided to stop training him.
This was why he had been slacking off since he arrived in this world.
Unfortunately, his efforts fell short.
Now, unless the village had a change of heart, they wouldn’t let him avoid graduating and becoming an official registered shinobi.
As soon as he stepped out of the clan area, Tang Ping quickly moved to the side.
Not because someone was attacking, but to avoid the fast-moving figure behind him.
