Chapter 7: Divine Thunder Sword Art
Chapter 7: Divine Thunder Sword Art
Several days later.
Inside the cultivation cave, Lv Yang sat cross-legged on a reed meditation cushion. His right hand formed a seal, channeling spiritual energy to his fingertips where a speck of light condensed. It solidified into a Whitebone Flying Sword as thin as a cicada’s wing.
The blade gleamed cyan-white, its hum reverberating with thunderous resonance.
“Go!”
Lv Yang snapped his finger, and the sword erupted into a dozen-foot-long streak of light, roaring like rolling celestial thunder.
“Excellent sword technique!”
A grin broke across Lv Yang’s face. He shifted his seal, and the blade split into two.
In the next instant, his figure vanished, reappearing mid-air beside one of the sword beams. As he altered his hand seals, his form crackled like lightning, darting between the twin beams with electrifying speed.
After a long while, he halted, breathless with excitement.
“Outstanding! Truly the Divine Thunder Sword Art!”
The technique was deceptively simple: practitioners could divide their sword beams and teleport between them. The greater their spiritual power, the farther they could leap.
If the Jade Pivot Sword Pavilion’s sect leader wielded it, they could sit in their hall, strike a foe a thousand miles away, and sever their head mid-conversation. And this was merely the foundational form.
Higher tiers supposedly manifested divine thunderstorms within the sword beams, though Lv Yang lacked access to those advanced cultivation methods.
Not that he hadn’t tried—he simply couldn’t learn them, and Yun Miaoqing herself didn’t know them either.
It made sense. A complete Divine Thunder Sword Art would cost far more than 1,000 contribution points. Ten thousand would be closer.
“Pathetically inept!”
A sneering voice cut through the air. Lv Yang turned to see the Jade Pivot Sword Pavilion disciple glaring at him with open disdain.
After days together, he’d learned much about her.
Her name was Yun Miaoqing, an inner sect disciple under Master Shenxiao, specializing in the Divine Thunder Sword Art. She’d once reached the sixth Refining Qi stage.
Lv Yang arched a brow. “Did I misuse the technique?”
Yun Miaoqing scoffed. “As if I’d tell you! Even if you stole my sword art, you’d only mimic it poorly, demon!”
“Must you be so stubborn?”
Lv Yang approached, shaking his head. “You won’t tell me? Or do I need to… persuade you again?”
“That,” she whispered, her porcelain face flushing crimson. Her gaze wavered, then hardened with hatred. “You think I’ll submit to your devilish arts?”
“Funny,” he mused, tapping the sigil glowing on her chest. “You’ve already yielded once.”
“Lies!” Her lips trembled. “You took advantage of my weakness then!”
She clutched the jade pendant at her neck—a miniature sword, a sacred artifact exclusive to Jade Pivot disciples, its purpose akin to Lv Yang’s disciple talisman.
“I am a Jade Pivot disciple! I’ll never ally with evil!”
“Your loyalty’s admirable,” he said, “but your sect’s teachings won’t shield you from reality.”
The next day, Lv Yang resumed meditation on the reed cushion, channeling energy skyward.
After a long silence, he exhaled deeply. Yun Miaoqing, her neck arched like a swan’s, sighed wearily.
“You’ve mastered the Divine Thunder Sword Art well enough,” she muttered, cheeks flushed. “Your issue isn’t skill—it’s external.”
Under Lv Yang’s relentless persuasion, she’d finally relented. When he pressed again, she huffed but continued:
“Disciples at the Qi Gathering stage use a secret method to forge a Sword Core from metallic essence and medicinal compounds. Our sword techniques rely on it—the stronger the Core, the deadlier the strike.”
Her explanation clarified everything.
Currently, Lv Yang could split his sword beam twice, enabling swift teleportation but lacking offensive power. With a Sword Core, he’d double his beams, unleashing devastating strikes mid-dash. Surrounded by his beams, opponents would flounder, unable to predict his next strike.
“We Jade Pivot disciples dominate duels across Jiangnan!” She glowed with pride—until Lv Yang shifted, drawing a soft gasp from her.
Her eyes fluttered shut. When he stilled, she squirmed uncomfortably before meeting his gaze.
“Finished already?” she blurted.
He stood, adjusting his robes. “Thanks. I’ve got the Sword Core method now. You’re dismissed.”
Yun Miaoqing blinked, stunned.
That’s it? No… extraction?
“Remember your place,” she whispered, clutching her pendant. “I’m a Jade Pivot disciple—”
Outside, Lv Yang pondered his next move.
“Fifty points left. Rent for this cave takes thirty. If I don’t earn more, I’ll be back in the Happiunion Hall dorms.”
In the Primordial Sacred Sect, points could be earned through positions, selling items, bounties, or sect missions.
“But as a nobody with no backing, no wealth, and no strength, I can’t land a post, my items are worthless, and high-tier bounties would kill me. Only grunt work remains.”
He scowled.
I’m cultivating immortality, yet I still need a job?
