Chapter 7: Did I Suddenly Become Stupid?
Chapter 7: Did I Suddenly Become Stupid?
The quiet environment made Ivan inwardly grateful to Madam Pince, the librarian. The library's rule against loud noise was indeed necessary.
As a basic theory book on Transfiguration, *Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration* wasn't particularly difficult, but its thick pages clearly couldn't be read through in a short time.
An hour passed in the blink of an eye, and Ivan had only managed to flip through a little more than a third of the book. After some consideration, Ivan continued reading. By the time he finished the entire book, another one and a half hours had passed.
After reading for over two hours, Ivan's head felt a bit dizzy when he finally put the book down.
These ancient Magical books often included some mysterious and inexplicable strange words, as if only in this way could they truly convey the mystique of Magic. This made Ivan, who was used to modern books, quite uncomfortable.
"Perhaps this is what it means to be a wizard", Ivan muttered to himself, feeling that this somewhat mystical way of thinking might be the true talent of wizards.
But he just couldn't understand it!
*Beep. After a period of focused reading, you find *Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration* to be dull and difficult to understand, and your proficiency in Transfiguration has slightly increased.*
*Note: Reading Progress of *Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration*: 27%*
The system's notification in his mind surprised Ivan again, as he hadn't received any such prompts when reading the textbook during class.
Did I need to finish the book?
Ivan suddenly realized the difference. He had never read any Magical book from cover to cover before. That must be the key.
With this thought in mind, Ivan began to complain about the system's notification, which sounded no different from a game log.
Ivan felt that while he did have some difficulties, the book wasn't necessarily dull and hard to understand.
The 27% reading progress, however, made sense to him.
Anyone who has read a book knows that finishing it doesn't mean you can remember and apply all the knowledge within. Otherwise, wouldn't everyone score full marks in exams?
"Now, let's see how powerful this Scholar Experience Card really is", Ivan whispered to himself. He then spent 100 points to activate the Scholar Experience Card.
*Remaining Time: 00:59:59*
Instantly, Ivan felt something in his brain explode. The knowledge he had recently learned and the content of the books he had read seemed to flood out, and within a short half-minute, they were categorized and summarized. His thoughts gradually became clearer.
It felt like using an old, worn-out computer and suddenly switching to the latest model.
After a minute, Ivan opened his tightly closed eyes and lightly traced the cover of *Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration*. Although he hadn't flipped it open yet, the content he had read earlier was already floating in his mind.
The words and sentences that had seemed obscure and mysterious now had new interpretations when combined with the context.
*Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration* was a foundational book for teaching young wizards at Hogwarts, and it had undoubtedly been revised multiple times to be concise and precise—albeit only for wizards.
When Ivan flipped through the pages again, he found that he had already grasped the main content of the book. The remaining parts were those he had skipped over due to confusion, which he now needed to review.

Ivan's hand flipped through the pages of Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration at a rapid pace, and the reading progress index in his mind increased just as quickly.
In just twenty minutes, Ivan had already finished reading the entire book.
* Ding, after a period of diligent reading, you find Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration to be simple and straightforward, presenting no challenge whatsoever. Your proficiency with Transfiguration Spells has significantly increased.
Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration reading progress: 100%!
Reading reward: 5 Academic Points *
* Transfiguration has reached Level 1, current proficiency (12/200), reward: 5 Academic Points *
As Ivan put down the book, two notifications sounded in his mind.
It's worth noting that the upgrade of his Transfiguration Spells proficiency did not come with any noticeable effects. There was no golden light or any other special effects, nor did he feel any significant improvement.
However, after understanding the principles of Transfiguration Spells, Ivan felt that casting them was no longer a challenge. At the very least, turning a matchstick into a silver needle was now a piece of cake for him.
Even with his less-than-stellar Wand, it wouldn't affect his performance much, at most making the effect slightly weaker.
This was in line with Ivan's earlier guess: increased proficiency wouldn't directly enhance his power but would rather manifest his existing abilities more effectively.
With the Scholar Experience Card still having about thirty-seven minutes left, Ivan wasted no time. He sprinted to the Shelf, picked up the nearest book, which happened to be Detailed Principles of Basic Spells, and started flipping through it.
As soon as he started, Ivan realized the book was even thicker than he had anticipated. It contained analyses of common Magic Spells, as well as some conjectures about the composition of Magic Power.
If this were any other time, Ivan would have found the purely theoretical content dull and uninteresting. However, this time, he was engrossed in it, so much so that he ignored the system notifications that sounded in his mind, fully immersing himself in the sea of knowledge.
However, halfway through the book, Ivan's expression suddenly changed. His previously clear mind felt as if it had been covered in a layer of white fog, and his thoughts were forcibly interrupted.
It was like being startled while letting the water flow freely, then suddenly having to hold it back.
Did I suddenly become less intelligent?
Ivan looked at the Detailed Principles of Basic Spells in front of him, struggling to adapt to the change in his cognitive abilities.
After standing in place for a while, Ivan finally came to his senses. He lightly tapped his slightly dizzy head and noticed that the remaining time on the Scholar Experience Card had run out.
Ivan looked at the half-unread pages in his hand, feeling reluctant. But the second half of the content suddenly seemed much more profound and difficult to understand, and his reading efficiency plummeted several times over. This was hard to accept for Ivan, who had experienced the boost from the scholar mode.
After reading a few more pages, Ivan sighed and put the book down.
After experiencing the scholar mode for an hour, Ivan had a deep understanding of its power.
It wasn't just about increasing the learning speed several times; it also included a comprehensive improvement in understanding and thinking abilities, turning a struggling student into a top-notch scholar or even a genius!
Learning knowledge was no longer a matter of whether it could be understood but simply a matter of studying it!
