Chapter 699: I Hate It When Kuro Gets Angry
Chapter 699: I Hate It When Kuro Gets Angry
“Roarrrrrr!!”
Mojas, transformed into his half-crocodile form, charged forward wielding his massive blade. The explosive power granted by Zoan’s physical enhancements far surpassed Bexi’s strength, kicking up a rolling cloud of dust as he dashed.
But his charge was abruptly halted.
“Calm Step.”
A flurry of pale-blue slashes erupted from the side, appearing beside Mojas.
“Hey!”
Mojas swung his blade in an arc, extinguishing two slashes instantly. The remaining slashes rained down on him, carving sparks across his scaled body and leaving faint white scars.
The scales remained unbroken.
Mojas glanced sideways, a malevolent grin spreading across his face. “Another Zoan, huh?”
Approaching calmly was Klah in his beast-human incarnation, half his face obscured by a wolf mask. His glasses had been pushed onto his forehead, and he stood with slightly bent legs. “Defense is impressive, but no ordinary scales could withstand the might of the legendary Klahofficer—myself.”
Elsewhere, Brode stood his ground as others rushed forward. Though skilled in unarmed combat, he had no need to engage directly. His ability worked best from the rear.
Just keep that Golden Lion pinned down—don’t let him use the Float-Float Fruit’s power. That’s all that matters.
Conserving physical strength has its merits too. Save it until we win.
Vrrrrrrr!
Without turning, Brode flicked his wrist.
Mid-flight, four arrows abruptly lost momentum and plummeted earthward.
“Like I said—arrows are useless against me.”
Finally turning his gaze, Brode spotted the distant figure of a woman clad in a loose white robe, a hooded cloak billowing behind her. Her long hair cascaded like a waterfall as she drew another arrow, nocked it, and aimed her greatbow.
Ju Geng.
“Useless, you say?” Ju Geng murmured, notching another arrow. “Let’s test that.”
Boom!
A sudden shockwave tore through the air. Brode’s expression hardened as he leapt backward. The blast struck his previous position, gouging a crater into the earth.
Lida emerged from her maiden-form incarnation, finger outstretched as she passed Ju Geng. “Let me handle this, Ju Geng sister. We need to eliminate this annoying pest quickly—he’ll interfere with Kuro’s focus.”
“Little brat, don’t overestimate yourself!” Brode scoffed, his lips curling. “Thinking you can take me on? You’ll regret it. I’m far stronger than you imagine.”
Lida shrugged, her left foot stepping ahead of her right. In a flash, she vanished into a storm of afterimages, each one closing the distance on Brode.
“Black Rope Heaven Flash.”
The afterimages moved with blinding speed, encircling Brode in an instant.
“Confident, aren’t we?” Brode smirked. “Impressive speed, I’ll admit. But force generated purely from velocity? Useless against me. Power Nullification!”
He thrust his hand forward, clenching his fist.
Snap! Lida’s afterimages dissolved as she materialized directly before Brode. She shifted her stance, her brow furrowing.
“So speed’s off the table, huh?”
Brode chuckled. “How many times have I nullified such power? Fast or strong—these brutes all think they’re special. But before my ability, they’re helpless worms!”
Lida clenched her fist, pulling it back before launching a punch.
Boom!
The strike cracked the air, its speed and force undeniable.
“I said it’s useless. Power Nullification!”
The ‘force’ behind her fist vanished. Lida’s punch slowed to a languid float, barely tapping Brode’s stomach.
Brode roared with laughter. “You’re one of those unarmed strongmen, aren’t you? Against martial artists like you, my ability shines brightest! Feel the despair—know the agony of having strength yet being powerless!”
He swung his own fist, charging it with Haki until it darkened to jet-black.
“Careful now—this punch’s got some real oomph!”
With a guttural roar, Brode’s fist hurtled toward Lida’s head.
This girl might wield Haki, but she’s no match for me. So young—her mastery can’t rival mine. And my strength? Formidable.
Face unflinching, Lida let his fist come, tilting her lips upward. “Idiot. You’ve already been touched.”
Her hand, still resting on his stomach, morphed from fist to palm, pressing firmly.
“Energy Drain.”
In an instant, Brode’s eyes widened. His incoming fist sagged lifelessly as his body slumped forward, legs buckling until he collapsed to his knees.
“Strength… strength!” he rasped, his voice parched as a desiccated specter. Jaw slack, cheeks hollowed, he trembled like a dying wraith.
“You—! You’re a Devil Fruit user!” Horror flooded his gaze.
“Yep. Sure am.” Lida withdrew her hand, splaying her fingers toward his face. “Why don’t I tell you my ability’s name? Kuro warned me—you arrogant fools keep shouting your powers, so I shouldn’t.”
A violent current of air gathered at her palm.
“So die here. Don’t bother Kuro. I hate seeing him angry—it’s terrifying.”
Lida pouted. “Shine.”
Booooom!!
A shockwave erupted from her hand, engulfing Brode’s skull and carving a massive crater into the land behind him.
The blast utterly vaporized his head. His headless body twitched before collapsing, lifeless.
“Tch. Just like Kuro said—these old pirates are all too cocky. Overconfidence gets you killed.”
Lida pulled a lollipop from her shoulder bag, peeled the wrapper, and popped it into her mouth.
“Next—let’s wrap this up quickly!”
Lida’s strength was formidable, her abilities honed through relentless refinement. Her energy-drain efficiency had soared.
Get too close? Leave an opening? If you’re not physically dominant, it’s game over.
Brode, in her eyes, possessed high Haki mastery and advanced Devil Fruit development. In a cautious battle, who knows how long it might’ve lasted?
But he’d been careless.
And carelessness gets you killed.
Boom!
Elsewhere, the winds howled.
Amidst the chaos of battle, Kuro had already reached Smiths’ side. Like thunder, he slashed downward, a wisp of Black Radiance cleaving toward Smiths.
Black mist surged from Smiths’ arm, forming a jet-black barrier. Kuro’s blade met the dark cloud in a clash of sparks, detonating with a thunderous boom.
“Brode!”
Smiths turned, his face darkening.
“Oh my,” Kuro glanced sideways, smirking. “The nuisance is gone. How… delightful.”
