Chapter 696: Sandlord
Chapter 696: Sandlord
"We’re about to have a big battle. We need to hold on for 83 minutes", Qiao Sang said, glancing at the countdown timer on the virtual Status Panel.
"Steel Guardian." Steel Treasure glanced at the pairs of glaring eyes below and instantly understood, a look of interest on his face.
"Ya Ya!"
Fangy’s expression turned excited as her body slowly grew larger.
Seeing this, Qiao Sang quickly intervened, "Don’t grow bigger!"
Under the white energy, Fangy’s body, which had grown to about one meter, suddenly stopped and then gradually shrank back to her original size.
"Ya Ya?"
Fangy, now back to her Fangflare-era size, called out, looking puzzled.
If they were about to have a big battle, why shouldn’t she grow bigger?
If she were to transform into her original form, the number of Freshmen who wanted to teach her a lesson would probably be cut in half. Seeing Fangy revert to her original size, Qiao Sang felt a bit relieved.
It wasn’t that she looked down on her fellow Freshmen, but a Champion-level familiar was absolutely the pinnacle of combat power among first-year Freshmen. If it were her, she wouldn’t waste time on a Beastmaster with a Champion-level familiar; instead, she would choose someone of similar strength to battle and earn credits.
After all, the evaluation time was running out.
However, Lulu was nearby, and she had only recently started to feel better. If Qiao Sang were to point this out directly, Lulu’s mindset might regress. After a moment’s thought, Qiao Sang said:
"Others don’t know your true strength. When an opponent gets close, you can surprise them."
"Ya Ya!"
Fangy’s expression turned serious at this.
She understood!
"Xunxun?"
Treasure Seeker retracted the amplifier into the Ring and looked at the familiars starting to move toward them, using various skills or the simplest methods, like holding umbrellas. He called out, asking if they should just let them get close.
He had been in Invisibility the whole time and knew his Beastmaster’s intentions.
"Of course not." Qiao Sang’s gaze shifted to the diverse familiars below. "It’s up to you now."
"Icechill."
As soon as Qiao Sang finished speaking, Lulu stepped forward, opened her mouth, and spewed a white mist.
The mist spread like thick smoke, quickly enveloping everything in front of them.
Then, a massive flow of water condensed around Lulu, transforming her into a towering blue water column that plunged from the rooftop.
Qiao Sang stood on the rooftop, overlooking everything below.
Despite the white haze, she could still see the blue glow changing direction and angle as Lulu moved.
With each shift in the blue glow’s position, the familiars below let out cries of pain.
...
"That’s Water Mist. Does anyone have a familiar that can create wind skills? Quickly disperse this Water Mist!" A black-haired boy under the eaves said impatiently.
"Do you think I need your reminder?" A brown-haired girl glanced at her familiar. "Tempest Eagle, Gale!"
"Hurricane!"
The eagle familiar, standing over three meters tall with mostly gray-black feathers, took a step forward and spread its wings, then flapped them forcefully.
A powerful gale immediately swept through, dispersing everything in its path.
At the same time, many other familiars were using similar skills.
It was just an Intermediate Skill with relatively high proficiency, yet so many Advanced Familiars were using Advanced Skills to counter it. Truly, it was quite the spectacle... Qiao Sang watched the scene below, feeling a sense of admiration.
Soon, the thick white fog dispersed, revealing the fallen figures of the familiars.
“Treasure Seeker.” Qiao Sang called out.
“Xunxun~”
Without needing to be told, Treasure Seeker understood its Beastmaster’s intent. It let out a call, its eyes glowing with blue light.
In the next second, Lulu appeared beside them.
“Icechill.”
Lulu’s gaze was intense as it looked down, its tail swaying lazily. Clearly, it hadn’t had its fill yet.
A few meters away, fine sand began to rise from the ground, slowly moving toward Lulu’s position.
...
Under the eaves.
A boy with a face full of acne leaned casually against the wall and said,
“Just keep her attention. My familiar is already in position. Once that Water-type Companion Beast is restrained by my Sandlord, the moment the Frostflower Seal stops, you all can rush in.”
The others looked slightly displeased. They all thought, why should we listen to him just because we’re all freshmen?
The boy next to him, wearing a hat, snorted,
“I can get there without you.”
With that, he gave a nod to his familiar, a creature about a meter tall, mostly light purple with white bone horns on either side of its head.
“Gugu.”
The familiar with the white bone horns called out and vanished, reappearing on the rooftop.
But the moment it appeared, dozens of shadowy tendrils, like silk ribbons, suddenly wrapped around it, flipping it 180 degrees and hanging it upside down in the air.
The boy in the hat’s face changed, and he waved his hand to summon his familiar back, but found it impossible.
Soon, he saw his familiar being spun around like a top, so fast that its original form couldn’t be seen.
The boy in the hat silently covered his face.
At that moment, the boy with acne laughed,
“I said my Sandlord was already there. But this works too; you’ve managed to catch the Ghost Familiar’s attention.”
The boy in the hat snorted, not buying his excuse.
The boy with acne continued,
“That Water-type Companion Beast’s Frostflower Seal seems to be at Mastery Level. Going in one by one like you are is just asking to lose points. Listen to me; my Sandlord can travel through any sandy surface…”
His expression suddenly froze, and his voice trailed off.
“Why did you stop?” the boy in the hat asked, unable to hold back his curiosity after waiting for a response.
The boy with acne frowned, looking at the rooftop,
“She has another Advanced Familiar with considerable strength…”
...
One minute earlier.
On the rooftop.
Fine sand began to rise from the ground, moving slowly toward Lulu’s position.
A familiar with a white face, a high nose, and eyes the size of peas emerged from the ground, staring intently at Lulu.
Suddenly, it sensed a gaze upon it.
Sandlord turned its head sharply, its eyes locking onto a bird-like familiar with a white mask-like face.
“Sand...”
Sandlord placed a claw in front of its mouth, signaling for silence.
“Steel Guardian.”
Steel Treasure stared at it for a second, then raised its wings and pointed, indicating an opponent was present.
Sandlord: “!!!”
Before Sandlord could react, a burst of flame shot out.
So, they’re working together... Sandlord regretfully closed its eyes.
At the same time, the fine sand within a centimeter of Lulu dispersed.
