Chapter 693: The Ambush
Chapter 693: The Ambush
Percival Harford's words seemed to be an explanation, but they carried a subtle undertone of provocation.
Chen Chuan's voice remained calm as he spoke, "If you're finished and have nothing else to say, then please stop following my convoy, Mr. Harford. I've already warned you. If you continue to do so, you'll bear the consequences."
"Wait a moment."
Harford took a couple of steps forward as he saw Chen turning back, "I'm here merely as a fighter, and if you're a true fighter, Mr. Chen, you should understand my eagerness." He shrugged his shoulders.
Chen stopped in his tracks and replied, "I apologize, but as a fighter, while I don't reject the idea of exchanging moves with other fighters, it also depends on the time and identity. Firstly, I dislike your lack of manners, and secondly, your current strength and status don't qualify you to spar with me."
After saying this, Chen directly walked towards his car.
Harford wanted to say something more, but just as he took a step forward, the armed personnel on the convoy aimed their guns at him. Their expressions made it clear that they would shoot without hesitation, regardless of whether he was part of the diplomatic team or not.
"Alright, alright," Harford raised his hands, but despite this gesture, his face remained relaxed. He wasn't afraid of the firearms, but he also didn't want to take aggressive action. After all, they were on the other party's territory, and even if he defeated the men before him, he couldn't handle the continuous influx of armed forces.
He took a few steps back, and just as Chen was about to enter his car, Harford shouted, "Mr. Chen, I'm willing to provide you with satisfying information, intelligence that will please the Processing Bureau. Perhaps this will change your mind and allow us to establish a friendly relationship."
As he spoke, he gestured and took out an envelope from his pocket, waving it in his hand before lightly tossing it towards Chen.
Chen signaled to the people on either side not to shoot and took the envelope. He felt it and found that it didn't contain any documents, probably just a few photos. He took out a small portion of the contents and then put them back, continuing to walk back to his car and getting in.
As for Harford's offer, Chen hadn't agreed to anything. This was something Harford had offered voluntarily.
Harford watched with disappointment as the convoy restarted, and he returned to his car. Using a special world credential, he reported, "Mountain Hawk has lost his Golden Ram."
Inside the temporary residence of the Linax Federation's foreign affairs office, a middle-aged man was communicating with him through a temporary secret frequency. The Federation's diplomatic team had their eyes on the relics, and they were now preparing to enter the Convergence Zone. Before that, they would initiate communication and test the waters with some powerful fighters from the Jinbei Dao Central City government.
Chen Chuan, being a manager, was slightly behind in the trial and error ranking. It was unlikely for him to enter the Convergence Zone like the frontline combat personnel, but with the excuse of college exchange, they wouldn't let this opportunity slip by.
However, it seemed that this attempt wasn't successful.
But they wouldn't give up after one failure. So, they replied, "Wild Buffalo received. Request Mountain Hawk to seek the next opportunity."
Harford responded, "Mountain Hawk is a bit tired today and would like to have a drink."
The other side joked, "Did Mountain Hawk fly too far last night?"
"Hey, don't underestimate Mountain Hawk. He can fly for an entire day with ease."
Just as they were talking, Harford's eyes caught a glimpse of something in the corner of his vision. He saw a figure rushing towards the car from the side, moving at an incredibly fast speed. When he first noticed them, they seemed to be hundreds of meters away, but in an instant, they were right next to the car, kicking the car door with their foot.
His pupils constricted.
A loud boom echoed as the vehicle he was in, also an armored car, had its middle section dented inward.
Harford reacted swiftly, performing a backward leap through the open car window.
Even though it was just a narrow car window, he managed to squeeze out. But at that moment, the dented car body was suddenly pushed forward by an unseen force, and the screeching sound of the tires rubbing against the ground made his heart race. His body, which should have been completely out of the vehicle, had half of it still inside.
At this moment, the attacker, who had just kicked the car, suddenly pressed down with his hand, and the deformed roof was instantly flattened. The car window was abruptly crushed, trapping Harford's lower leg.
Harford realized something was wrong and quickly twisted his body, trying to untangle the car window that was binding his leg. He just needed a little more time, but in that instant, the attacker, using the momentum of pressing down the roof, leaped forward like a swift hunting leopard and threw a punch towards Harford's head.
Harford's expression changed drastically as he saw a barrier of piercing air surrounding the attacker's fist. He quickly crossed his arms to block the incoming attack.
With a powerful punch, the man's arms were contorted and shattered, and then, with unwavering determination, he surged forward, enveloping himself in a force that seemed to have barely consumed any of his energy. The punch landed squarely on his cheek, causing his entire face to distort and deform, his head resembling a soft noodle as it stuck to the fist. Teeth shattered, and blood and saliva sprayed out of his mouth.
But the force of this strike didn't end there. It continued to grasp his head and pull it forward, and from within his body, a series of creaking sounds echoed, as if the tough steel that had been twisted together was being torn apart.
The man's bones, muscles, tendons, and blood vessels were stretched and torn, and by the time the force of the punch subsided, his entire body had stretched like a noodle, more than half longer than before. His deformed head was unrecognizable, and only his long tongue hung limply on the ground.
Even at this point, due to the robust vitality of a third-limit fighter, he still breathed. One of his eyes, almost falling out of its socket, stared at the approaching figure, seemingly trying to recognize his appearance.
The man stood atop the car, retracting the punch he had thrown, looking down at the other man. The afternoon sun was intense, but one could see his robust physique and the explosive power contained within his muscles and bones. At that moment, he straightened his body and looked towards Chen Chuan's convoy.
Chen Chuan sat in the back seat. At the moment of the attack, he had sensed it and witnessed the entire process. Although he felt nothing about the man's death, he had just met with foreign affairs personnel, so he couldn't ignore what he had seen.
Moreover, the man's exceptional skills and fearless demeanor made it impossible for Chen Chuan to let him go unchecked.
The convoy had already driven some distance away, but after stopping again, everyone quickly formed a formation, aiming their guns at the figure in front.
Chen Chuan stepped out of the car, feeling the wind in the open space, and pushed down his hat brim. He instructed everyone to stay put and proceeded towards the figure alone.
The armed squad members watched his silhouette, their guns aimed at the distant figure on the car roof.
At that moment, the figure seemed to flicker, and all the armed personnel, guns raised, were startled to realize that the man had suddenly appeared less than fifty meters away.
He was broad-shouldered and slim-waisted, with medium-length hair, wearing a sleeveless martial arts shirt that clung tightly to his body. A few strands of bangs framed his sharp brows and intense, aggressive eyes.
Chen Chuan looked at the face that bore a striking resemblance to the painting, nine out of ten points similar, and was surprised that the man had appeared before him after being given the opportunity.
Upon closer inspection, he found that the artist had captured the man's essence perfectly, and he decided to give the painter a raise when he returned.
Qi Qianyang was slightly taller than Chen Chuan, with broad shoulders and thick, muscular back and shoulders that exuded immense pressure even when standing still.
He looked at Chen Chuan and said, "I was trying to find you, but it seems you were looking for me too, so I came. But it seems a bit impolite to just show up like this..." He gestured with his thumb over his shoulder, "So, I sent you a challenge letter as a courtesy. I hope you're satisfied with it?"
Chen Chuan's voice remained calm. "If you could send a few more."
Qi Qianyang was taken aback but burst into hearty laughter, his smile wild and unrestrained.
At that moment, a buzzing sound approached from the distance, and a group of combat creatures swiftly flew towards them. City security vehicles also converged and rushed to the scene.
Although they were in Hongsheng District, not far from Shenwei District, An Dun had detected the danger at Chen Chuan's location and immediately mobilized the armed forces at the regional border to provide support. Simultaneously, a patrol armed flying yacht from Shenwei District was also heading their way.
Qi Qianyang extended his finger, pointing at Chen Chuan, "I came here just to greet you, but the battlefield shouldn't be decided by you alone."
As he spoke, his eyes shone with a brilliant light, and an invisible psychic field expanded outward. In an instant, the approaching combat creatures fell like rain, including the armed personnel behind Chen Chuan, who lost consciousness one by one and collapsed onto the vehicles.
At the same time, a large blue-black bird flew past the distant skyscraper, instantly swooping down behind Qi Qianyang, and a long rope dropped from its armed harness.
Qi Qianyang performed a backflip in mid-air, reaching out to grab the rope, and the bird pulled him up into the sky. He hung there, looking down at the ground and said, "Well, until next time."
