Chapter 69: What Would You Do?
Chapter 69: What Would You Do?
"Mr. Quaba, why didn't you follow the textbook and grind the lionfish spines before adding them to the crucible as instructed?" Professor Snape glared at Kyle during Potions class, his tone laced with sarcasm. "Do you think you're some kind of potion genius, daring to alter the textbook?"
"Because of your arrogance, Hufflepuff loses five points," Snape declared.
Kyle glanced up at the blackboard, where the words were clearly written: 'Lionfish spines, boiled for five minutes and cut into sections without grinding.'
The large letters, written by Snape himself, now seemed to accuse Kyle of altering the textbook.
"Professor..." Kyle took a deep breath and said in as normal a tone as possible, "You wrote it on the blackboard yourself."
"Oh, I must have made a mistake," Snape said nonchalantly, waving his wand to erase the words on the blackboard.
"Does that mean everything I write is correct? Where is your judgment? If I said to add your own heart tendons, would you do that too?"
"Hufflepuff loses three more points for your lack of initiative," Snape continued.
...
As the class ended, Kyle tightly clenched the rock cake in his pocket, debating whether to throw it at Snape's head.
Snape had been unfairly deducting points from Kyle for a long time, but today he went too far, even going so far as to erase his own writing to deduct points.
This outrageous act left Kyle speechless.
The effect was immediate; in just one class, Kyle had lost more than thirty points.
From the time he entered Hogwarts until now, he had never lost as many points in a single class as he had today.
The other badgers came to comfort him, and even Conna thoughtfully offered him a licorice stick.
Kyle glanced at it and chose to ignore it.
At mealtime, Fred and George had also heard about the incident in Potions class and came over to pat Kyle's shoulder comfortingly. "It's okay, Snape's been deducting points from us too. It's no big deal."
"That's right, haha... I mean, you need to take it easy," they said, their faces betraying their barely concealed amusement.
It was clear they had come to gloat.
Just as Kyle was about to shoo them away, Fred leaned in and whispered, "Come on, stop thinking about unpleasant things. Let me show you something cool."
He looked around cautiously and then carefully pulled out a square piece of parchment from his pocket.
"Do you remember a few days ago when I wanted to tell you something? This is it," George whispered as he leaned in, "It's a magical item, and I bet you can't guess what it is."
Kyle raised an eyebrow, looking puzzled. "Is this parchment that writes homework automatically?"
"..." The once-boastful twins now had stiff expressions.
"If it's possible..." Fred said longingly, "I wish it could write homework automatically."
"But its real function is amazing too," George explained. "This is a map of Hogwarts, but not just any ordinary map."
"We call it the Marauder's Map."
Fred took out his wand and gently tapped the parchment, and fine ink lines spread from where the wand touched, connecting and expanding to every corner of the parchment like a spider web.
Then, at the top, green cursive letters appeared.
"Moon-faced, worm-tailed, with a big, flat feet and a pointed hook."
With great pride, the creators of this magical prank present—
The Marauder's Map.
Kyle took the parchment from Fred's hands, carefully examining the famous Marauder's Map.
The map depicted every detail of Hogwarts Castle, far more intricate than a regular map, almost a replica of the school.
Everything within the castle, from paintings to carpets, and even vases, was marked on the map.
Most extraordinary were the tiny black dots moving across the map, each labeled with minuscule names.
Kyle spotted Dumbledore in the Headmaster's Office and saw Filch and Peeves dashing from the fifth-floor corridor to the sixth floor.
All of this was clearly visible on the map.
However, in crowded places like the Great Hall at the moment, the map became less effective.
Numerous names overlapped, creating a dark mess.
Additionally, Kyle noticed that the map didn't seem to reveal all the secret passages.

The Whomping Willow's location on the map was empty, indicating nothing.
Kyle returned the map to Fred and asked, "How did you get this?"
"When we were in our first year, young, carefree, and innocent..." Fred and George reminisced, squinting their eyes.
"For some minor mischief, Filch dragged us into his office and threatened to put us..."
"In detention."
"To torture."
"And we couldn't help but notice a file cabinet drawer labeled 'Confiscated Items, Highly Dangerous.'"
Fred suddenly chuckled, "Kyle, what would you have done?"
Kyle thought for a moment, "I'd lead Peeves there and provide him with enough droppings or pepper poppers, then sneak away with the drawer."
"..."
Fred and George gaped, speechless for a while. After a moment, Fred shook his head, "Kyle, you deserve the thirty points Snape deducted. Truly, you're not wronged."
"Don't bring up old grudges." Kyle glanced at him, annoyed, "So, you got this map from that drawer?"
"Yes." George smacked his lips, "We didn't have the guts to take everything like you did, just this."
"But how did you figure out how to use it?" Kyle flipped through the parchment, "There's no instruction on it."
"Speaking of which..." Fred sighed, "We must mention the moon face, worm tail, big feet, and pointed nose."
"These four are the masters of pranks." George added, "They broke down the password and hid it in every corner of the castle."
"As long as we find all the clues, we can get the complete password."
"Unfortunately, we've been searching for a year..." Fred regretfully said, "But we never found the full password."
"So, we can only use the map five times a day, and each time for half an hour." George smiled, "It's a great undertaking, and we plan to complete it in three years."
"What if you don't find it in three years?" Kyle asked.
"Then we're not worthy of it." George shrugged, "We'll find a new owner for it then."
"I see." Kyle said, "So, you're showing me this map to have me join you in searching for clues?"
"No, Kyle." Fred shook his head, "The password is a test from those four seniors, and we must pass it ourselves."
"Then why are you..."
"Going on a midnight excursion!" Fred and George said in unison.
