Chapter 69: The Key to 'Breaking Limits'
Chapter 69: The Key to 'Breaking Limits'
Perhaps it was due to the victim's special identity or some other reason, but the peacekeepers arrived remarkably quickly, unlike the typical portrayal in movies where they seem to always arrive after the criminal has left.
Within just five minutes, the sound of police sirens filled the car park of the Ruizhu Hotel, with an excessive deployment of over a dozen police cars rushing to the scene.
Soon after the police cars arrived, several ambulances joined the commotion, their wailing sirens a stark contrast to the silence of the night.
"...And that's what happened," Xue Jing recounted, sitting on a stool in the ambulance, his upper body bare and covered in shocking wounds.
Two nurses carefully tended to his injuries, using scissors, cotton swabs, bandages, and antiseptic to provide temporary treatment.
A middle-aged peacekeeper in uniform took notes and asked questions, his pen and notepad at the ready.
"So, you took down that monster single-handedly?" The officer inquired, his eyes narrowing slightly.
Xue Jing nodded thoughtfully. "Yes, that's correct."
The others hadn't been much help; Pei Tiancheng had managed to land a punch on the cockroach-like creature, but it had barely made an impact.
By the time he had arrived, the situation was already under control, and the others had little opportunity to intervene. With their slower reaction speed and limited vision, they would have been no match for the cockroach monster.
"Alright, I've got everything I need. Thank you for your cooperation," the middle-aged peacekeeper said, putting away his notepad and pen. He patted Xue Jing's uninjured shoulder in a gesture of gratitude.
"A true hero, and so young too..." he added, a hint of admiration in his voice.
Xue Jing offered a faint smile and asked, "Officer, with your experience in law enforcement, do you have any idea where this monster might have come from?"
The peacekeeper hesitated for a moment before replying cautiously, "I can only tell you that it's likely related to the Borderlands."
Compared to the young man before him who had single-handedly slain the creature, the officer had a deeper understanding of its origins.
A month ago, individuals from 'above' had arrived in Qingcheng to investigate a case involving a smuggling ring operating in the Borderlands.
Rumors suggested that this smuggling ring possessed something extremely dangerous, and if left unchecked, it could potentially lead to a city-destroying crisis.
As a result, the peacekeepers had been on high alert for any unusual incidents in Qingcheng over the past month, and the report of a 'monster' had prompted them to mobilize a large number of officers immediately.
And this time... they might have finally caught a break in the case.
The middle-aged peacekeeper glanced at Xue Jing.
It wouldn't be long before those 'people from above' came to question the young hero.
"The Borderlands..." Xue Jing nodded in understanding. So, it was as he had suspected.
Such a creature could only be the product of a deranged scientist from a biotechnology company or some mysterious entity from the Borderlands; it certainly wasn't a natural creature.
"Alright, we're done here. Get some rest and take care of your wounds. They might give you a call or summon you to the peacekeeper station for further questions. We'd appreciate your cooperation," the officer said.
"Of course," Xue Jing replied.
The peacekeeper offered a few more words of advice before turning to leave.
By now, a significant amount of time had passed since the initial emergency call.
Expensive sedans continued to arrive in the hotel car park, disgorging middle-aged individuals who hurried to find their children, their faces etched with concern.
Among them was a short-haired female reporter in an OL-style outfit, holding a voice recorder and interviewing the crowd, accompanied by a cameraman lugging a video camera.
As the reporter approached, Xue Jing stood up, his movements swift and decisive. "I need to go," he said, his eyes scanning the surroundings.
The two nurses, who had been tending to his wounds with a mix of professionalism and curiosity, exchanged a worried glance. "Wait, your injuries are severe! You should come with us to the hospital," one of them urged.
Xue Jing smiled wryly, his eyes crinkling at the corners. He picked up his tattered shirt from the nearby chair and draped it over his shoulders, the fabric hanging limply from his broad frame. With a quiet "thank you," he turned and strode away, his long legs eating up the distance.
The nurses called out after him, but Xue Jing didn't look back. He didn't want to be the center of attention, and he certainly didn't want his family to worry about him.
As he disappeared into the crowd, a sedan screeched into the parking lot, spewing gravel and dust in its wake. A middle-aged man leapt out, his face etched with worry. "Yingyang! My son! Where is he?" he cried, his voice trembling.
Someone hesitated before speaking, their words hesitant. "Uncle... Yingyang... he..."
The man's face crumpled, and he sank to the ground, covering his face with his hands.

In the Nurture Heart Room of the Canglong Dojo, Xue Jing sat on a narrow bed, his chest and abdomen a latticework of bandages. Zhushan Ying hovered over him, a transparent bottle in hand, carefully pouring medicine onto his palms and applying it to Xue Jing's wounds.
"This is a disaster," Zhushan Ying muttered. "A simple security escort, and yet... Little junior disciple, you're indeed unlucky."
Xue Jing's eyes narrowed, his thoughts whirling. "It's not just bad luck, Master," he said finally.
Li Qi, seated in his wheelchair, raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
Xue Jing's voice was barely above a whisper. "I think I've comprehended the essence of the Canglong Style."
Li Qi's eyes snapped to Xue Jing's, a spark of surprise igniting within them. He wheeled himself closer, his hands reaching out to grasp Xue Jing's wrist. A surge of energy flowed into Xue Jing's body, but instead of resisting, his body reacted instinctively.
A low rumble, like the distant echo of a dragon's roar, vibrated through Xue Jing's body, repelling Li Qi's hand. Li Qi's face split into a wide grin, his eyes shining with delight.
"A dragon! You've nurtured a dragon within yourself!"
Zhushan Ying's confusion was evident. "Master, what do you mean?"
Li Qi's laughter was infectious, and it took him a moment to compose himself. "To conceal the true dragon that overturns the clouds, one must first nurture a young dragon within. Little junior disciple, you've done just that!"
"By infusing the qi created from one's spirit and soul into the physical body, unifying the mind and body, and agitating one's strength like a writhing dragon, it even possesses a certain level of 'consciousness.'"
Li Qi's eyes gleamed with excitement. "This is the true essence of my Canglong Style! You've obtained the key to 'breaking limits,' Little Jing."
As Li Qi gazed at Xue Jing, his expression was one of unbridled satisfaction.
