Chapter 687: Warning
Chapter 687: Warning
Wu Division quickly contacted Chen Chuan after receiving a call from An Dun. With a serious tone, Wu Division said, "Supervisor Chen, I'm reviewing your report. Well done on this one."
Chen Chuan replied, "It's just a temporary suppression, Wu Division. Lian Wei Zhong Yu Company won't give up so easily, and they will definitely make more moves later."
Wu Division asked, "What are your thoughts?"
Chen Chuan suggested, "I'd like to request authorization to inspect the high-energy nutrient supply levels of Lian Wei Zhong Yu Company and impose restrictions on their purchase quantities."
"You suspect," Wu Division said with a heavy voice, "that the investigation into their supply levels is a sensitive matter. It involves agreements between the government and the company, and initiating an investigation requires going through a lengthy process involving multiple departments. I can assist you with this, but the outcome might not be effective."
Regarding the restriction on purchase quantities, Wu Division explained, "According to the emergency ordinance, we can impose limitations. I support you on this, but if Lian Wei Zhong Yu Company has made prior preparations, this move might not be effective."
"I understand," Chen Chuan said, "but at least we can impose some restrictions."
"Okay, I'll issue a restriction order under the emergency ordinance. Is there anything else you need from the division?"
Chen Chuan replied, "Not for now. Thank you, Wu Division. It's just that due to a lack of manpower, we haven't made any progress with Green Source Ecology Company."
Wu Division advised, "When handling matters, it's essential to prioritize. We can put Green Source Ecology on hold for now. If anyone from the division asks later, just say it was my instruction."
"Thank you, Wu Division."
"Alright, then."
After ending the call with Wu Division, Xu Chan entered the office and sat down. Wu Division picked up the documents from the desk and personally handed them to Xu Chan.
"This situation is a bit special," Wu Division explained. "Various companies will undoubtedly dispatch their most capable personnel. Supervisor Han has investigated and obtained information about these individuals, and their specific details are included. Old Xu, you can take a careful look."
Wu Division continued, "We are currently applying for access to their past combat recordings and have also instructed our overseas personnel to purchase them from external platforms. They should arrive within the next two days."
Xu Chan flipped through a couple of pages and examined them one by one. The documents provided detailed introductions and the specialized techniques of each individual.
As for the combat recordings, they could only serve as a basic reference and not be taken at face value. Anything that could be recorded was merely surface-level information, or even intentionally misleading. Most people would not easily reveal their hidden strengths to outsiders.
After reviewing the documents, Xu Chan raised his head and asked, "Wu Division, are these messages accurate?"
"These individuals can be confirmed," Wu Division assured him. "I've verified their existence through indirect sources."
Wu Division spoke with a grave tone, "Supervisor Han mentioned that he had to utilize many past connections and networks to obtain this information. However, he couldn't guarantee that there were no omissions, as some individuals are only known to the delegation members and might be considered confidential within their companies."
Xu Chan collected the documents, intending to take them back for further review. Despite his confidence in his abilities, he never underestimated any opponent, especially for this mission in the Convergence Zone, which might require venturing deep into the zone. Once outside the local garrison's jurisdiction, the support available to him would be limited, and he would have to rely on his own capabilities.
"You've already received the Convergence Zone's information," Wu Division said. "This is the most comprehensive data we have, and neither the companies nor the Linax Federation possess a complete understanding like ours."
Xu Chan commented, "I guess we have a slight advantage here, Wu Division. If the lost item we're searching for is indeed a third-level item, familiarity with the terrain alone won't be sufficient."
The lost item was not an inanimate object that would remain stationary. Sometimes, it could attach itself to certain Convergence Zone creatures, making some of them extremely challenging to deal with, especially the large-scale ones. If that were the case, the target would become highly conspicuous, and the mission would turn into a grueling battle.
"So, Old Xu, be cautious," Wu Division said gravely.
Xu Chan nodded in agreement, "I've temporarily handed over some matters to Supervisor Chen."
Wu Division assured him, "You can trust Supervisor Chen. He's always decisive and efficient in his work. I'll handle things from the rear, and you take care of the front. But let me ask again, have you considered advancing your rank? If you did, you'd receive even more support from the Defense Department."
Xu Chan shook his head, "Wu Division, you know I'm not interested in those things."
It wasn't a lack of interest but rather an awareness that reaching that level would require making choices. If he didn't make a choice, others would force him to do so, and the implications would be far-reaching.
Wu Division had discussed this with him several times, but seeing his persistence, he said, "Then I won't bring it up again. I'll arrange for the division to provide you with additional manpower, and Commissioner Liang will also make appropriate arrangements. However, you should be prepared that there will always be those who drag their feet within our organization, so you need to be mentally ready. This time, the burden on your shoulders might be exceptionally heavy."
Xu Chan acknowledged, "I understand, Wu Division."
Wu Division stood up and said, "I won't say more. Old Xu, although the items are important, people are even more crucial. As long as we have people, we can still find a way."
Xu Chan also stood up, saluted respectfully, and said, "Wu Division, Xu Chan understands."
The day after, it was the last day of September, which also happened to be a day of rest.
With the Lian Wei Zhong Yu matter temporarily resolved, Chen Chuan treated the entire squad to a meal as a reward for their successful actions. He also distributed the appropriate rewards and compensations to each member.
After the meal, Chen Chuan received a message from the division, informing him that the surveillance field organisms had detected some activity in one of the Convergence Zone passages. They had found a piece of paper, which was intentionally left there for them to discover. However, it was unclear what information was recorded on it.
Chen Chuan examined the photographs sent to him and saw a piece of paper with jumbled numbers and characters that only had radicals, making it impossible to determine the specific information.
After some thought, Chen Chuan believed that Chang Dong might be able to decipher it, so he went back to the division and obtained the item. He then drove to the temporary residence of Chang Dong and Gao Yanjun.
Since the attack, the two had been staying in an apartment in the Weiguang District, while the construction of the division's facilities was handled by a construction company. They only received updates on the progress through boundary communications.
Upon arriving, Chen Chuan took out the paper and handed it to Chang Dong, asking, "Mr. Chang, can you identify the content on this paper that was deliberately left in the Convergence Zone passage?"
Chang Dong took a look and immediately reached a conclusion.
"This is a cipher letter, our Pure Sect's cipher letter, written using the format from fifteen years ago. I need to think about this carefully, give me a moment..."
He flipped through a notebook, deciphering the message while also sending a telegraph to confirm some details. After several attempts, he successfully deciphered the entire cipher text.
The general content was a request for them to release the person as soon as possible and a warning not to establish any divisions in Jinbei Dao Central City. It advised them to leave the Central City, or he would personally come to eradicate their division.
Chen Chuan asked, "Is this from our target?"
"No."
Chang Dong shook his head and explained, "The tone doesn't match our target's personality. He is a very reasonable person. Regardless of whether others consider his actions right or wrong, he always provides his own logic and reasons, and he genuinely believes in them. So, he wouldn't make such a straightforward and shallow threat."
Chen Chuan pondered for a moment and asked, "Could it be one of his students?"
Chang Dong considered this and replied, "I actually think it's not our target but rather that person himself."
Chen Chuan remembered the photo Chang Dong had shown him and asked, "Mr. Chang, is this the person I'm looking for?"
"Highly likely."
Chang Dong said, "Knowing these codes and being involved in that incident fifteen years ago, there's no one else it could be. If this person is truly colluding with the target, then it's not surprising that he would do something like this."
"A threat?" Chen Chuan looked at the paper. "Based on these few sentences?"
"Isn't that naive?" Chang Dong chuckled. "Then it's even more likely to be him. He sometimes does naive things." He turned to Gao Yanjun, "What do you think, fellow Daoist Gao?"
Gao Yanjun, dressed in a well-tailored office skirt, calmly replied, "I think he's not so much warning or threatening us, but rather advising us to leave and stay away from danger."
"Hmm..." Chang Dong nodded in agreement. "That makes sense. It does seem like something he would do. It's been fifteen years, yet he hasn't changed much. But we need to find out what exactly happened back then."
He handed the paper to Gao Yanjun, "Fellow Daoist Gao, can you locate him using the field residue on the paper?"
Gao Yanjun took the paper and said, "The field residue is almost non-existent due to the long time that has passed. However..." She flipped through the paper, "The person is likely in the Central City, not the Convergence Zone. This paper didn't originate from the Convergence Zone."
"But it's possible that he came to the Central City and wrote it on a random piece of paper he found there," Chang Dong suggested.
Gao Yanjun calmly stated, "But this paper came from a children's homework notebook."
"A children's homework notebook?"
Chang Dong was taken aback. He examined the paper again, realizing that if it had come from the Convergence Zone, it wouldn't have such paper. It was likely that the person had taken it casually from their surroundings.
Chen Chuan took the paper, tore off a piece, and stepped outside. He activated the boundary communication device and placed the paper in front of the light screen, saying, "An Dun, check the purpose and time of this paper."
Soon, An Dun replied, "Preliminary analysis indicates that this is paper from a student's homework notebook, aged seven to twelve. The paper was produced approximately three months ago."
Chen Chuan returned to the room and shared An Dun's analysis. He agreed with Ms. Gao's opinion, "I think this person is not in the Convergence Zone but is highly likely to be in the Central City."
