Chapter 687: This Rain Woman Always Knows How to Have Fun
Chapter 687: This Rain Woman Always Knows How to Have Fun
Time flew by, and with the turn of the seasons, a year had passed since Wendy and Natsu joined the guild. In the blink of an eye, it was now X778.
This year, Erza was 13 years old, Juvia was 11, Wendy was 6, Mebis was 105, and Fengye was 19.
For Feng Ye, who could traverse time, age was but a trivial matter. He felt that 19 was a good age—technically an adult, yet not quite considered a full-fledged grown-up. So, he decided to dial down his age by a year.
Inside the guild.
Little Wendy, at six years old, hadn't grown much, but over the past year, she had fully adapted to her companions in the guild and was no longer as shy as before. Her cuteness had also earned her the care and affection of the guild's mages.
Walking through the guild, she would often be invited by others to enjoy treats like ice cream and cake, and these were usually of fine quality.
At first, Wendy felt a bit embarrassed by everyone's kindness, but Erza counseled her that the guild was like a family, and there was no need to be reserved with family. Gradually, she grew accustomed to the love and care she received from her guild mates.
"Wendy, come over here and look at the gift I received from a client after dealing with a monster."
A male mage in the guild beckoned to Wendy with a smile and took out a delicate pendant, offering it to her. He winked and said, "They say it has the effect of refreshing and invigorating the mind."
Bang!
Before Wendy could respond, a chubby female mage beside her punched the man on the head and said, "Idiot! Wendy is a Sky Dragon Slayer Mage who uses supportive magic. What use does she have for this? Are you trying to make a move on her when she grows up?"
"Ouch, that hurts! How could I ever do that?"
The male mage rubbed his head where he had been punched, looking sheepish. He then passed the pendant to the chubby female mage, saying, "Here, take it."
Wendy blinked at the scene, looking a little confused, but ultimately, she flashed a cute and innocent smile, figuring that their intentions were good.
Just then, the guild's door opened, and Master Makarov strolled in, holding a piece of paper with writing on it. He made his way towards the counter.
The mages in the guild greeted Makarov.
"Master, welcome back from the meeting."
"I hope the Council didn't give you any trouble."
Makarov waved to everyone and then jumped onto the bar, standing on top of it. He held up the paper in his hand and said with a hint of annoyance, "Those guys at the Council only know how to eat and boss others around. They want us to investigate some demon traces that appeared in the north."
Makarov Jr. scratched his head, looking a bit exasperated. "Demons, huh? That's dangerous. Why do we always get these kinds of jobs?"
"Let me burn it to ashes!"
Natsu let out a battle cry, waving his arms and spewing fire from his mouth in excitement.
Bang!
Makarov slapped Natsu's head, sending him to the floor. He gave Natsu a displeased glance; clearly, this kind of mission was not suitable for someone as young as Natsu.
Around this time, Feng Ye's calm voice echoed from the second floor, "Investigating demon traces is troublesome. If anyone is to take on this task, it should be the S-class mages."
The mages in the guild looked up towards the second floor.
Leaning against the second-floor railing, Feng Ye said nonchalantly, "Since Gildarts is out on a mission, I guess it falls to me to go this time."
Makarov looked at Feng Ye and said, "If you don't want to go, we can just ignore them. Those Council guys are a bunch of good-for-nothings anyway."
Compared to the family that was the guild, the Council members were a bunch of nuisances who only knew how to pass their problems to others. Makarov hadn't planned on taking this job anyway, and he didn't mind ignoring the Council.
"I've been feeling a bit bored lately anyway."
Feng Ye smiled casually. "I might as well go and take a few people with me to give them some training."
As he said this, he walked down from the second floor, his eyes scanning the guild. "Erza, Juvia, Wendy... let's form a temporary team."
Slap!
Makarov brought his hand to his forehead in exasperation.
While Erza was strong enough, Juvia was a bit lacking, and as for Wendy, she had almost no combat ability.
Bringing Erza along would mean adding another fighter, but taking Wendy along... was he planning to investigate demons or go on a northern vacation?
"Great!"
Erza, Juvia, and the others readily agreed to Feng Ye's suggestion.
Since they had joined the guild, only Wendy had been taken along by Feng Ye for a few jobs, and they had never worked together as a team.
They understood this, as Wendy needed more care and attention, and they hadn't been strong enough before. It wouldn't have been feasible for Feng Ye to bring all three of them along at once, as it would have been troublesome if something unexpected happened. But now, Erza was one of the stronger mages in the guild, and Juvia wasn't weak either; at the very least, she wouldn't be a burden.
...
Ten days later.
In a vast forest north of the Kingdom of Fiore, Feng Ye, along with Erza, Juvia, and Wendy, trekked through the woods. Their mission was to investigate demon traces, but with Feng Ye's presence, Erza and Juvia were unconcerned about the task at hand. Moreover, this was a rare opportunity to undertake a mission with Feng Ye, so the past ten days had felt more like a pleasant journey than a job.
Feng Ye led the way, with Wendy by his side, followed by Erza and Juvia bringing up the rear.
After covering a considerable distance that day, Erza and Juvia showed signs of fatigue, and even though Wendy was a Dragon Slayer Mage, she was only six years old, so she, too, began to slow down, feeling a burning sensation in her feet.
Just then, Feng Ye turned to her and gently asked, "Can you keep going?"
"Y-yes... I can..."
Wendy nodded, her big, adorable eyes fixed on Feng Ye.
Feng Ye smiled and crouched down, offering his hand to lift her up and settle her in his arms before continuing on their path.
Juvia, walking behind them, couldn't help but feel a twinge of envy at the sight, but she knew that this was a privilege exclusive to Wendy's young age.
After walking for a while longer, the forest abruptly opened up.
The group had traversed the forest and now stood in a somewhat expansive canyon.
"Alright, let's set up camp here for today."
Feng Ye halted his steps, sensing the gentle breeze blowing from ahead. He addressed Erza and Juvia with a casual tone.
Both Erza and Juvia nodded, promptly unpacking their gear and setting up two medium-sized tents in no time.
While Wendy was supposed to be in charge of gathering ingredients, it was actually Feng Ye who took on this task.
"Your supportive magic has a solid foundation, but you haven't mastered any offensive spells yet. Has Grandine taught you the most basic breath attack?" Feng Ye asked, leading Wendy to a high point in the canyon.
Wendy replied with a hint of embarrassment, "I've been taught, but I haven't been able to grasp the technique at all."
Feng Ye smiled and gently patted Wendy's head. He then looked up at the sky and spotted a bird soaring high above. "Wendy, watch..."
He tilted his head back, drew in a breath, and as the air mixed with magic in his mouth, he exhaled, sending a powerful stream upward.
"Heavenly Dragon's Roar!"
Boom!!!
A dragon's breath shot through the sky, tearing off half of the eagle's wings, causing it to plummet helplessly. Feng Ye reached out and caught the falling bird.
Wendy blinked, her eyes filled with admiration as she exclaimed, "Amazing..."
"Your turn."
Feng Ye gestured to Wendy, encouraging her to give it a try.
Wendy nodded, lifted her head, closed her eyes, inhaled deeply, and then forcefully exhaled, attempting to mimic a fearsome 'roar.'
"Heavenly Dragon's Roar..."
Huff!
A tiny, nearly invisible puff of air escaped her mouth, resembling a tiny dragon's burp.
Seeing her meager attempt, she flushed, feeling a bit shy.
"Hahahaha."
Feng Ye couldn't help but burst into laughter at Wendy's adorable display. "It seems you're not ready for this spell yet. Take it slow."
Wendy was at a loss for words due to Feng Ye's laughter, but when he gently patted her head and offered a sunny smile, she returned a sweet smile of her own.
Bang! Bang!!
Feng Ye raised his fingers, forming them into the shape of a gun, and fired off a few shots into the sky and canyon. With a wave of his hand, several hunted beasts flew toward him.
Carrying their catch, Feng Ye and Wendy made their way back to the campsite, where a bonfire was soon lit, and various cuts of meat were placed over the flames to cook.
"After walking all day, it would be nice to soak in a hot spring."
Erza, having finished her share of the grilled meat, stretched her body and glanced at Juvia, inquiring, "Can your magic create a hot spring?"
Juvia shook her head. "I can only produce hot water, and there's no container here to hold it..."
She paused for a moment, then turned to Feng Ye, her face lit up with a smile that contrasted starkly with the one she usually directed at Erza. "But if Feng Ye wants to, he can bathe inside Juvia's body~ Erza doesn't get to join, though."
As she spoke, she transformed into a steaming stream of water, her head poking out as she continued, "Juvia can adjust the water temperature."
Was this a human-shaped, self-propelled, all-automatic bathtub? Feng Ye's lips twitched. This rain woman always knew how to have fun.
