Chapter 686: The Perfumed Gentleman, Please Enter the Array
Old Butcher and Old Fisherwoman also departed.
Before they left, they provided the three men with directions to the Emerald Manor.
However, they still warned Lucas Brooks (Chu Liuxiang) not to enter the Emerald Manor, as it was a death trap for him.
But Lucas Brooks had his reasons for going, as Sophia Richardson (Su Rongrong) and the others were inside the manor.
"Actually, it doesn't matter if you don't go. I can go instead," Julian Blackwood (Jin Banhua) said casually. "Then I'll escort them to the capital and invite you to visit your relatives or something..."
Lucas Brooks took a deep breath. Even with his composure, he didn't really want to converse with Julian Blackwood anymore.
He couldn't help but sigh, "Ryan Thompson (Shuai Yifan), Old Butcher, Old Fisherwoman... who knows how many other experts are in the Emerald Manor. If you expose me one more time, I might really die."
Julian Blackwood raised an eyebrow and asked, "Aren't you the one who loves Adventure and placing yourself in danger? I'm just helping you!"
Lucas Brooks, "..."
Harrison Green (Hu Tiehua) grinned, "If it weren't for you and me going to rescue the Old Stinkbug in the desert, I would have thought you were trying to kill him."
"But I understand how you could guess that the Old Stinkbug is stronger than Ryan Thompson. How did you know he could turn the tide when he was already trapped in the fishing net?" Harrison Green asked.
Julian Blackwood replied, "I didn't know! I just had faith in Lucas Brooks."
Harrison Green blinked, "Ah?"
Julian Blackwood patted Harrison Green's shoulder, "You need to trust Lucas Brooks. His ability to adapt on the spot is unmatched. No matter how dire the situation, he can always turn it around."
Harrison Green looked bewildered, "You have that much confidence in him?"
"Exactly. So we don't need to worry. We just need to push Lucas Brooks to his limits and then watch his performance," Julian Blackwood said solemnly.
Lucas Brooks sighed deeply, "I really appreciate your high regard!"
Although he knew Julian Blackwood was exaggerating, how could he really blame Harrison Green?
"It's getting late. The Emerald Manor is just ahead. Let's hurry," Lucas Brooks said.
...
When they arrived at the Emerald Manor, Ethan Lee (Li Yuhan) and his wife, Emily Lee (Liu Wumei), greeted them warmly.
"Ryan Thompson, the senior, is a frequent visitor to the manor. We thought he would lead you here, so we returned early to prepare," Ethan Lee said.
"Later, a servant reported that Mr. Thompson had left alone. This was our oversight, and we apologize," Emily Lee smiled politely.
Ethan Lee continued, "I was just about to send someone to look for you, but I'm delighted to see you've arrived."
Lucas Brooks looked at the frowning Harrison Green and the amused Julian Blackwood, then smiled and said, "Our subordinates were captivated by the mountain scenery and got lost. We didn't mean to cause you any worry."
Ethan Lee smiled and praised, "The moonlit night at Mount Huqiu is truly enchanting. Your appreciation for its beauty is commendable."
Harrison Green couldn't hold back his sarcasm, "We're not that refined. We just fell asleep under the Mount Huqiu Pagoda and dreamed of people coming to take our lives."
Emily Lee smiled sweetly, "So Harrison brother was sleepwalking at Mount Huqiu. That must have been quite an adventure."
At that moment, Ethan Lee clapped his hands, and a young servant raised the bamboo curtain in the hall. As the scent of sandalwood wafted through, an elderly man with white hair sat quietly behind the curtain.
The old man had a gaunt face, but his expression was weary, his breath shallow, and his complexion sickly. His eyes appeared vacant and lifeless, as if he were already half-gone.
However, before him lay a sword.
The sword was unsheathed, its blade gleaming like a pool of autumn water under the light, dazzling to the eye.
The old man did not look at Chu Liuxiang and the others. Instead, he stared intently at the sword, as if it were his entire world, the only thing keeping him alive.
Li Yuhan bowed deeply to the old man and introduced Chu Liuxiang, Hu Tiefu, and Jin Banhua, recounting their remarkable feats.
But Li Guanyu seemed oblivious, not even lifting his head.
Li Yuhan turned back and said with a smile, “My father has lost much of his hearing in recent years. I hope you can forgive any rudeness.”
Chu Liuxiang smiled, “Certainly.”
But Hu Tiefu could not bear to see the once-great swordsman in such a state, “We dare not disturb the elder any longer. We should take our leave.”
However, Li Yuhan stopped them, “My father is often lonely, and it’s rare for visitors to come. Since you’re here, why not stay for a while?”
Chu Liuxiang, though anxious to find out where Su Rongrong and the others had gone, could not afford to be impolite in front of the legendary Li Guanyu. As a junior in the martial world, he had to sit and wait patiently.
Li Yuhan smiled, “Thank you for your kindness. My father is very grateful.”
Li Guanyu’s eyes flickered, his lips trembled, and his expression showed a mix of urgency and sorrow.
“My father seems to have something to say,” Li Yuhan’s expression changed, and he immediately approached Li Guanyu, leaning in to listen.
After a moment, he turned back and spoke of a regret Li Guanyu had, hoping Chu Liuxiang could help.
Chu Liuxiang’s eyes narrowed, realizing the main event was about to unfold, “What is the elder’s unfulfilled wish? If I can assist, I will do so without hesitation.”
Li Yuhan then explained that Li Guanyu had spent decades studying swordsmanship and had discovered a few intriguing things.
First, he spoke of the differences between the demonic sect’s “Boundless Wonders, Soul-Capturing Nine Styles” and the Wudang Sect’s “Two Instruments Sword Technique.” Second, he mentioned how Tie Zhongtang, despite being weaker, had defeated the demonic sect’s leader, Dugu Can. Third, he noted that there had never been an invincible sword formation in the martial world.
All three of these mysteries had been solved.
Now, Li Guanyu had created a new sword formation that required six experts of equal skill to form. He believed it was unbreakable and had invited six such experts to test it. He wanted Chu Liuxiang to try it out.
Li Yuhan looked at Chu Liuxiang, “If Brother Chu is willing to participate, my father’s wish will be fulfilled.”
Chu Liuxiang stared at Li Yuhan, “Do I have a choice?”
Li Yuhan replied coolly, “No.”
Hu Tiefu was stunned, “You want him to face six experts like Shuai Yifan? You’re trying to kill him!”
Li Yuhan smiled but said nothing.
Liu Wumei smiled sweetly.
In the next moment, the bamboo curtains on the side were rolled up, and several more people entered one by one.
These individuals were dressed in black, their steps light and graceful, and their faces hidden behind black veils, concealing their true identities.
They did not speak, but their presence was imposing and chilling.
Hu Tiefu, watching them, felt a chill run down his spine. He realized that almost all of them were top-notch martial artists, on par with Shuai Yifan.
Hu Tiefu murmured to himself, “Where in the world did so many experts come from?”
