Chapter 685: Not Alone
Chapter 685: Not Alone
Finally, in a room resembling a conference hall, the Death Eaters caught up with Harry and his companions, who were desperately fleeing.
"Halt!" Bellatrix shouted, hurling a curse that instantly knocked Ron, who was at the back of the group, to the ground. She grabbed him by the neck and lifted him up.
"Got you, you pathetic rats," she said, glancing at Harry. "I wonder how long he can endure the Cruciatus Curse."
"I remember the Longbottoms lasted for three hours," she continued, her voice filled with excitement. "Their delightful screams were so amusing..."
Bellatrix looked at Ron in her grip, "Can you beat them? I hope you can."
She answered her own question, laughing maniacally.
"Leave me alone," Ron pleaded, trembling with fear in the face of this insane woman. "Just leave me, Harry. We can't let the Death Eaters get the Prophecy Orb."
Bellatrix raised her wand without hesitation, "Cruciatus!"
Ron cried out in pain, curling up into a ball.
"Ron!" Mr. Weasley shouted in panic.
He tried to rescue Ron but was held back by two other Death Eaters, unable to break free.
Seeing Ron in agony and hearing Mr. Weasley's roar, Harry had no choice but to stiffly raise his hand and offer the Prophecy Orb.
"No, Harry! The Death Eaters won't keep their word!" Mr. Weasley roared. "If they get the Orb, they'll kill Ron immediately!"
"No, no, no. We'll let him go," a masked Death Eater rushed forward and took the Orb from Harry's hand.
A cruel smirk appeared beneath his mask.
"Let him go, then kill him..."
"Stunning Spell!"
At that moment, a nearby door was flung open, and Lupin, Tonks, and Kingsley burst into the room.
A flash of red light shot from Kingsley's wand, and the Death Eater fell backward, hitting the ground.
"No! Damn it!" Bellatrix roared. She threw Ron aside and raised her wand.
"The Orb flies..."
But Harry was faster. In the instant the Death Eater fell, he dashed forward, picked up the Orb, and clutched it tightly.
Tonks took the opportunity to rescue Ron, who had been thrown aside.
"Made it just in time," Kingsley panted. "Alastor, you shouldn't have separated us."
"It was the safest option..." Moody dodged another curse, his magical eye spinning rapidly. Even so, he was struck by a curse from the shadows.
Moody's back was blown to pieces.
Though he was once a legendary Auror, Moody's age had slowed him down. Dealing with two Death Eaters was already a challenge, and there were more than twice as many Death Eaters present.
Kingsley immediately joined the fight, relieving some pressure from the injured Moody.
"Don't worry about me. Help the kids," Moody said through gritted teeth as he picked up his fallen magical eye and put it back in place. "Lucky it wasn't the Killing Curse, you scum."
Kingsley glanced at him and quickly moved to Hermione's side, helping her fend off a Death Eater who was attacking her. He shouted, "Watch your back, girl! Stay close to the walls!"
Hermione, experiencing this intense situation for the first time, could barely speak and managed only a difficult nod.
"Good, the bastards are here," Sirius said, as Bellatrix cackled maniacally on the other side. She aimed her wand at the nearest target, Tonks.
"Avada..."
"Explosion!"
As if in defiance, Bellatrix's spell was interrupted again.
"Let's see what you've got now!" Sirius challenged.
In response, a blinding red light flashed.
Sirius, seemingly prepared, skillfully transformed into a black dog, evading Bellatrix's Cruciatus Curse, and then transformed back.
"Is that all?" he taunted. "Disappointing."
Bellatrix was enraged, and what followed was a display of various spells flying back and forth between them, as if their wands were fireworks.
In terms of power, Sirius and Bellatrix seemed evenly matched, neither gaining the upper hand.
But the others were not so fortunate. The Death Eaters had the advantage of numbers, and before long, the weakest among them, Hermione and Ron, were disarmed.
Soon after, Moody, who had been valiantly fighting despite his injuries, collapsed. He tumbled down a set of stairs as a Death Eater nearby, his mask now gone, cackled with glee.
Antonin Dolohov pointed his wand at Moody, "Get up and face me, you filth... Cruciatus!"
The balance of victory began to tilt, and the pace quickened.
Sirius, who had been focused on battling Bellatrix, now had to contend with both his opponent and hidden attackers, increasing the pressure he faced.
Meanwhile, Harry, strangely, found himself ignored.
Whether it was concern for the Prophecy Orb or some other reason, he faced only one Death Eater, who seemed half-hearted and only cast a casual spell when Harry attempted to flee.
"It seems we've won..." Bellatrix's triumphant cackle echoed through the room as she toyed with Sirius like a cat with a mouse.
(End of Chapter 685)
"That's not necessarily true." A soft voice came from above them, interrupting the tense atmosphere.
Bellatrix, without thinking, looked up and noticed a figure standing by the uppermost door, a presence she hadn't noticed before.
But the next moment, her gaze fell on a creature by the person's side, a creature entirely black in color.
Not just her, but everyone in the room, noticed it as well.
"Kyle?" Mr. Weasley's eyes flashed with disappointment, as he had just assumed it was Dumbledore.
But as he realized who it was, he immediately shouted, "Run, you're not..."
His words trailed off as he suddenly found himself unable to make any sound.
The creature, resembling a leopard, walked forward and arched its neck.
Harry also looked up, not recognizing the creature. He saw its neck puff up like a pufferfish, and then a hazy purple mist began to rapidly spread around them.
It was as if time had been paused, and the room instantly fell silent. Everyone, be it Death Eaters or Mr. Weasley's group, stared with wide eyes.
The next second...
"Damn it, why is there a Venomous Bag Cat in the Ministry of Magic!"
"Run..."
"Do you want to kill everyone?"
"Stop, stop right now!"
"No, Kyle, don't!"
The room erupted into chaos. Antonin Dolohov abandoned the incapacitated Moody and fled towards the other side of the room without looking back.
The other Death Eaters, leaving behind the helpless Hermione and Ron, scrambled after him on all fours.
Even the manic Bellatrix began to retreat instinctively.
"Ron, Hermione..."
Seeing the Death Eaters retreating, Harry wanted to rush forward and grab the unconscious Ron and Hermione, but Mr. Weasley held him back.
"Don't go over there, it's the Venomous Bag Cat's venom, you'll die!"
Harry was startled for a moment, then struggled even more vigorously.
"But they're still over there...I have to save them..."
"It's too late, Harry!" Mr. Weasley said painfully.
The purple mist spread quickly, enveloping the unconscious Ron and Hermione as they spoke.
Mr. Weasley bit his lip hard, dragging Harry backwards with all his might.
He couldn't understand why Kyle would command the Venomous Bag Cat to kill everyone.
Why would he do this! Mr. Weasley's fingers dug into his flesh, and he desperately hoped that the Kyle before him was an imposter, someone using Polyjuice Potion, but his remaining rationality told him this was impossible.
Apart from Kyle, Newt Scamander, and Credence Barebone, he couldn't think of anyone else who could command the Venomous Bag Cat.
Several Death Eaters immediately cast the Impediment Jinx on themselves.
"Useless..." Kyle shook his finger, "The venom of the Venomous Bag Cat can penetrate through clothes and into the body."
For a moment, the Death Eaters ran even faster.
However, Lupin, among the crowd, heard this and suddenly looked up at Kyle. His tension seemed to ease as if he had thought of something, and he breathed a long sigh of relief.
He stopped running and stood there, allowing himself to be engulfed by the purple mist.
"Damn it, Remus..." Sirius's eyes widened in anger.
Mr. Weasley now had to hold onto Harry and pull Sirius back with one hand.
"Remus... Let go of me, Remus hasn't come over yet... I have to save him!"
"Shut up, you big oaf, don't be a fool."
Antonin Dolohov stood there, trembling, his eyes coldly fixed on Kyle, who was backed by more Death Eaters with the same intense gaze.
"Yes," Kyle shrugged, "I was just messing with you. Do you have a problem with that?"
Suddenly, a flash of green light flew towards them.
But Kyle, as if anticipating it, had calmly sidestepped to the left beforehand.
The Killing Curse flew past him and hit the wall.
"Thanks," Kyle said with a smile.
A low growl echoed from the still-lingering smoke behind them, as if in response to his words.
Lupin, the closest to Kyle, caught a glimpse of two faintly glowing blue orbs within the smoke.
"But what are you going to do next?" Bellatrix emerged from the group of Death Eaters. "You don't seriously think you can take on all of us alone."
Her words reminded Mr. Weasley of their current predicament, and he grabbed Kyle's arm, "There are too many of them. We have to run..."
"It's too late."
The Death Eaters scattered, quickly surrounding them.
Bellatrix spoke with a sinister tone, "Playing a little trick to save those wastes won't change anything. It's just a delay. We'll soon capture them again, and you... I'll torture you with the Cruciatus Curse for a day, no, for a year."
"Tsk tsk, it's been a while, Bella. You're still good at scaring people." Kyle greeted her like an old friend.
"But who told you I came alone?"
Kyle waved his hand, and the smoke gradually dissipated, revealing a magical creature resembling a leopard.
It had six legs and a pair of bright blue eyes.
"Another Transfiguration," a Death Eater scoffed, "You think we'll fall for it again..."
Before the Death Eater could finish, the magical creature appeared in front of him with incredible speed.
Its sharp claws grew larger, and with a scream, the Death Eater was sent flying, landing on the ground motionless.
Harry involuntarily shuddered, recalling some unpleasant memories as he witnessed the familiar scene.
This also made it clear to everyone that the magical creature was not a result of Transfiguration but a real entity.
"Avada Kedavra!" Antonin Dolohov waved his wand.
"Who said I only have one?" Kyle laughed.
Without warning, a burst of flames erupted behind Kyle, and a massive fire dragon materialized out of thin air before everyone's eyes.
Some Death Eaters couldn't help but rub their eyes... How strange, they thought, to see a fire dragon.
Before they could recover, the ground began to tremble... It was a three-headed dog, each head the size of a table, with half of its body covered in ten-inch-long sharp spikes.
Some Death Eaters started trembling, certain that those spikes could easily pierce through their bodies.
"Avada Kedavra!"
"Avada Kedavra!"
"Stupefy!"
"Protect them..." Lupin roared, the first to raise his wand.
Several spells flew towards them, half of which were blocked by Lupin and the others, but the other half still hit Lu Fu and Niffler, including the Killing Curse.
If it were Voldemort's Killing Curse, it might have been able to penetrate the fur and scales to kill them, but these Death Eaters were far from capable.
Lu Fu staggered for a moment but quickly regained his footing, his eyes gleaming with ferocity as he charged towards the crowd.
Niffler took a simpler approach, flying into the air and spraying Avada Kedavras at the most densely packed area of Death Eaters.
Sirius immediately forgot his previous embarrassment and joined in with a hearty laugh.
"Stupefy!" He knocked down a Death Eater with his wand, tied them up, and tossed them aside. "Weren't you all so proud just now? Keep it up!"
The Death Eaters were now in complete disarray, with the addition of the three-headed dog and the fire dragon completely altering the situation.
These magical creatures weren't particularly difficult to handle; a group of seven or eight wizards casting spells together could take down one. But the problem was that there were other magical creatures present as well.
Whenever the Death Eaters attempted to cast spells simultaneously, Sirius and his companions would disrupt them, even more carefully than when protecting themselves.
By safeguarding the fire dragon and the three-headed dog from harm, these creatures effectively resolved the immediate crisis, and with greater efficiency.
The situation instantly became one-sided.
"This can't continue!" Lucius Malfoy limped over to Bellatrix's side, his mask having been burned by dragon flames earlier, along with most of his meticulously maintained hair.
But at this moment, Malfoy didn't care about such things.
"We have to find a way out of here!" he shouted, "At the very least, we need to lure those two beasts away."
But Bellatrix acted as if she hadn't heard him, dodging a descending dragon flame with a flip and pointing her wand at Kyle, but after a moment, she slightly adjusted her wrist, aiming at Harry, who held the prophecy orb.
Harry stood there, oblivious to the impending danger, until something kicked him, sending him flying and narrowly avoiding a deadly curse.
"Oh, thanks," Harry said with relief as he got up, but he didn't notice that when he fell, the prophecy orb had rolled out of his pocket and shattered on a rock not far away.
