Chapter 684: The Heavenly Net on Tiger Hill Tower
Chapter 684: The Heavenly Net on Tiger Hill Tower
Chu Liuxiang rubbed his nose, looking at Jin Banhua’s earnest face and thinking to himself, "I don’t believe you for a second. You just said you wouldn’t interfere if I were in danger, and now you’re suddenly worried about me?"
The battle had ended, and Hu Tiedehua finally understood Chu Liuxiang’s approach. He said with a hint of lingering fear, "You first provoked his sword qi, only then did you break his sword technique?"
Chu Liuxiang nodded, "This man’s sword technique is already at the pinnacle. He has transformed the tangible sword into intangible qi. My whole body was enveloped by his sword intent, leaving me no way to escape."
Hu Tiedehua said, "Even standing so far away, I could barely catch my breath, let alone you."
Chu Liuxiang replied, "So I had to break through his sword qi first, otherwise, I would have been at his mercy."
"But your sudden leap still startled me," Hu Tiedehua said. "Attacking from mid-air is usually used when the strong confront the weak; otherwise, if the first strike misses, one will be in dire straits."
"Because I had no choice," Chu Liuxiang said. "Only by doing so could I, after using the leaf to trigger his sword qi, take advantage of the moment when he couldn’t recover his qi, and lightly tap him on the head with a branch."
Chu Liuxiang looked at Jin Banhua, "But because of Jin Brother’s warning, Shuai Yifan reacted quickly and crushed the branch in my hand."
Hu Tiedehua looked at Jin Banhua, "Good lad, your words almost helped Shuai Yifan defeat the old stinkbug!"
Jin Banhua sighed, "Isn’t this a loss? It seems that to defeat Chu Liuxiang is still a long and arduous journey!"
Hu Tiedehua laughed heartily, "Apart from the old Stinkbug, his ability to adapt on the spot is unparalleled. It’s truly not easy for an ordinary person to beat him."
Chu Liuxiang looked at Jin Banhua, asking with a pointed intent, "Jin Brother, what do you think of Shuai Yifan’s sword technique?"
Jin Banhua smacked his lips and looked at the already distant Shuai Yifan, commenting, "Just so-so-so."
Compared to the likes of Yan Nan Tian, Ge Gu Cheng, Xi Men Chuixue, Gong Jiu, Mu Dao Ren, Xie Xiaofeng, and Yan Shisan, who were all unparalleled swordsmen, Shuai Yifan was far behind. Even compared to Guo Songyang, Ah Fei, Jing Wuming, Gong Sun Da Niang, and Hong Ying Luliu, he still had a gap.
However, his skill in condensing sword qi was indeed quite unique, and he had a special move.
"Is that really all there is to the Feathered Knight Shuai Yifan?" Hu Tiedehua laughed heartily. "If I hadn’t seen you defeat Shi Guanyin with your sword, I would have thought you were just bragging!"
"I never brag!" Jin Banhua stood straight and puffed out his chest. "If I were to strike, Shuai Yifan wouldn’t be able to block my sword!"
Chu Liuxiang and Hu Tiedehua exchanged glances.
They really couldn’t tell if Jin Banhua was bragging or speaking the truth without a clear understanding of his own strength.
From their perspective, even if Shuai Yifan’s sword technique wasn’t the best in the world, it was still among the top. To defeat him in one move was almost a pipe dream.
Even if the legendary swordsmen of Ba Shan and Hua Shan were reborn, they wouldn’t be able to defeat Shuai Yifan in one move.
"Regardless, we’ve passed the first test with Shuai Yifan," Chu Liuxiang’s gaze swept past the Lu Yu Tea Pavilion and looked toward the path leading into the mountain.
"Shuai Yifan was just the first test. It seems Liu Wumei and the others have really gone all out this time!" Hu Tiedehua said. "I wonder who else is waiting for us?"
"Let’s go up and see. We’ll find out how many tests Chu Liuxiang can pass!" Jin Banhua chuckled and rubbed his hands together.
...
The twilight deepened, and the air grew cooler.
The three of them continued their ascent, quickly passing the Mandarin Duck Tomb, the Sword Testing Rock, and the Immortal Cave, but they didn’t find the Green Mist Manor.
Hu Tiehua asked, "You've never been to the Green Embrace Manor either?"
Chu Liuxiang shook his head. "No, I've only heard that the Green Embrace Manor is nestled against distant mountains, with a view of Taihu Lake. The sand, birds, wind, and sails, along with the misty clouds and bamboo groves, make it the most beautiful spot in the entire mountain."
The sky grew darker, and a lantern appeared in the distance, swaying in the wind.
Hu Tiehua took a deep breath. "What's this all about?"
Jin Banhua smiled. "This is probably the second challenge after Shuai Yifan. Want to check it out?"
Chu Liuxiang nodded. "Of course, we should. Otherwise, if we sneak into the Green Embrace Manor at night, we'll be mistaken for intruders."
The three of them quickly made their way to the lantern and found themselves at the base of a seven-story tower.
The tower stood alone, surrounded by a desolate and eerie landscape, with only the howling wind for company.
The red lantern hung from the highest eave, illuminating a line of characters written on the outer wall of the seventh floor.
Hu Tiehua squinted but couldn't make out the words, so he asked Chu Liuxiang and Jin Banhua, "Can you see what's written there?"
Chu Liuxiang and Jin Banhua both shook their heads.
Hu Tiehua was about to climb up, but Chu Liuxiang stopped him, deciding to go himself.
"Since they're targeting me, I should be the one to go," Chu Liuxiang said calmly. "I might as well see what kind of trap they've set for me."
With that, he leaped up.
Chu Liuxiang moved with the grace of a light swallow or an elegant goose. His movements were so swift and silent, surpassing anyone Jin Banhua had ever seen.
Perhaps he wasn't as powerful as Yan Nantian over long distances, but in short sprints and confined spaces, he outshone even the agile Lu Xiaofeng.
Could it be because he didn't need to breathe through his nose, so he didn't have to catch his breath?
As Jin Banhua watched Chu Liuxiang's nimble movements, Chu Liuxiang reached the top of the tower and read the inscription.
"Chu Liuxiang will meet his end here."
Chu Liuxiang's eyes flickered, and he was about to descend.
But just as he moved, a massive net was suddenly cast down from the tower's top.
The net was vast and, illuminated by the lantern, shimmered with threads of gold and iron, clearly not an ordinary fishing net. It came down with incredible speed.
But Chu Liuxiang was even faster.
Just as he was about to escape, a hook spear suddenly emerged from the fifth floor of the tower.
Chu Liuxiang flipped backward to avoid the hook spear but couldn't escape the net. He was ensnared and lifted into the air by the hook spear.
The entire exchange happened in the blink of an eye, and Chu Liuxiang was already caught in the trap.
Hu Tiehua was shocked. Without a word to Jin Banhua, he drew a short knife, leaped onto the tower, and rushed to cut the net.
But as he climbed, a giant appeared at the top of the tower.
Hu Tiehua and the giant exchanged a few blows, and in his desperate fight, he managed to force the giant back. However, the hook spear retracted and extended, striking Chu Liuxiang in two pressure points and using him to knock Hu Tiehua off balance.
Both of them tumbled down the tower.
