Chapter 684: A Fairy Tale for One
Chapter 684: A Fairy Tale for One
Sunday, evening,
After the last class, Ivan didn't return to the Dormitory as usual to rest. Instead, he left the castle and headed towards the Forbidden Forest.
When he arrived at the agreed location, Ivan was surprised to find Luna already waiting there.
She stood quietly under the Whomping Willow, her back to him. She was wearing a peculiar robe adorned with many decorations, and a wreath made of vines and flowers was tilted on her head.
It was easy to imagine that Luna had been stared at with strange glances on her way there, but her attire unexpectedly blended in well with the Forbidden Forest, as if she belonged there.
"I guess I'm late again..." Ivan took a few steps forward, his voice tinged with apology.
"No, you're just in time. I was just finishing my chat with this Whomping Willow..." Luna turned around at the sound of his voice, her pale blue eyes staring straight at Ivan. Her tone was dreamy as she spoke.
Ivan was taken aback, finding it hard to understand how Luna could chat with a Whomping Willow. While the tree was known to attack those who approached or touched it, Wizard scholars generally believed this was just an instinctive reaction.
Seeing Luna standing so casually under the tree without any protection, Ivan was genuinely worried that the Whomping Willow might suddenly attack the young witch.
Perhaps guessing Ivan's thoughts, Luna gently stroked the tree trunk and explained, "The Whomping Willow is just afraid of us hurting it. If it senses that you're friendly, it won't harm you!"
Ivan was skeptical but curious, so he took a few more steps into the Whomping Willow's range, but the tree remained still, showing no signs of movement.
"See, it's easy, isn't it?" Luna said softly.
Ivan nodded, smiling. "Yes, it's quite amazing!"
Luna's face lit up with a smile, and then, as if remembering something, she spoke excitedly, "By the way, I haven't congratulated you yet!"
"Congratulated me for what?" Ivan asked, puzzled.
"For defeating the Mermaid, Giant Squid, and Grindylow, and rescuing the Champion and the Hostages! That was truly impressive!" Luna said with an exaggerated tone of admiration.
Ivan didn't know how to respond. Honestly, he didn't think his performance in the second task was particularly outstanding; it was more that his opponents were lackluster, leaving him unimpressed.
"Also, you defeated a Dragon and rode it, just like a Dragon Knight in a story!" Luna's voice was light and cheerful, as if she were singing a song.
Mentioning Norbert made Ivan even more uncomfortable, and he quickly interjected, "Alright, stop praising me. Didn't we come here to find the Zongxian Tree and the Crumple-Horned Snorkack?"
"Yes, what are we waiting for?" Luna nodded, her face showing excitement. She grabbed Ivan's wrist and started running into the Forbidden Forest.
Ivan was surprised by how quickly Luna's mood had shifted, but he let her lead him, only occasionally pointing out the direction.
"You're going the wrong way, it's this way!"
"Is that so? But I think we should look over there..."
...
It was already close to six in the evening. The sky was gradually darkening, and the dense forest blocked the remaining rays of the sunset. The surroundings were pitch black, with only a few rays of sunlight filtering through the gaps between the leaves.
Luna seemed to be exploring the Forbidden Forest this late for the first time, but she was in high spirits, pulling Ivan along at a brisk pace. It wasn't until she was nearly out of breath that she slowed down.
Unconsciously, they had ventured deep into the heart of the Forbidden Forest. All around them were shrubs and thickets, and Luna even wondered if they had gotten lost. But she wasn't worried at all, turning to Ivan and asking anxiously, "Are we almost there?"
"Almost!" Ivan glanced at the completely dark sky, feeling that the time was just about right. He then pulled Luna in the opposite direction, leading her sideways.
After passing through a patch of shrubs, the area ahead suddenly opened up.
"We're here, this is it!" Ivan stopped and turned to look at Luna, only to find that the young witch was completely mesmerized. Her beautiful blue eyes were wide open, gazing intently at the scene that could only exist in her imagination.
Before her was a vast sea of flowers, with countless blue and purple blooms covering every corner of her field of vision. Each petal seemed to have a touch of Magic, shimmering with a faint Lumos in the darkness.
In the center of the flower sea stood a towering tree!
It was almost as thick as three people could encircle, and it was more than twice as tall as the trees in the distance. Its dense branches and leaves formed a massive "umbrella", the surface of which was a deep blue and purple. Upon closer inspection, Luna realized that the "umbrella" was actually made up of countless blue and purple flowers, with petals occasionally drifting down from the sky.
It was evident that the flower sea on the ground was formed by the petals that had fallen from the tree.
Luna stared in amazement for a long time. Just when Ivan thought that something might be wrong, that the scene didn't meet her expectations, the young witch suddenly moved. She lifted the hem of her robe and ran straight into the flower sea.
The entire ground seemed to come to life, as countless House-elves with pointed ears, hidden beneath the petals, flew out. Their wings emitted brilliant Lumos, illuminating the entire night sky.
"Zongxian... They are Zongxian!" Luna recognized them at once, her feet stepping on the petals as she shouted joyfully, as if someone had cast a strong Cheering Charm on her.
The Zongxian seemed to be drawn to Luna, circling around her.
Perhaps she was truly overjoyed, Luna closed her eyes and twirled around in the flower field, as if it were a stage on Christmas Eve, with the surrounding Zongxian happily keeping the beat to accompany her.
Ivan didn't interrupt the young witch's enthusiasm. He simply sat on the petal-covered ground, watching Luna's solo dance—a fairy tale that belonged to her alone...
To perfectly recreate the scene Luna had imagined, it was not only thanks to Legilimency, but also the significant improvement in his Transfiguration, which had reached level seven. Before the fourth blood infusion, Ivan was certain he wouldn't have been able to achieve such a grand Transformation!
The consumption of Magic was also a major issue; when he Transfigured the Zongxian Tree, he nearly drained his Magic completely.
However, the high difficulty of the spell cast actually increased his Transfiguration proficiency, which was a pleasant surprise for Ivan.
