Chapter 683 - The Chi Wood
Chapter 683 - The Chi Wood
After planting the Demon of Bleached Bones into the emaciated old man's mutilated body, Lu Chen, who was always frugal, didn't forget to collect the old man's limbs.
Even though they didn't weigh much, they were still the flesh and blood of a Pill Formation cultivator, and their quality was top-notch, especially suitable for nurturing his spirit fields.
Then, amidst the old man's furious and fearful gaze, he entered the spirit field.
Unlike Lu Chen, the emaciated old man didn't specialize in cultivating spirit plants. His spirit field was less than a tenth the size of Lu Chen's, but it still had quite a few spirit plants, mostly of the third grade and a small number of fourth grade, all of which were fairly common varieties.
Lu Chen's attention was drawn to several bizarre spirit plants.
The spirit plants had pitch-black branches that seemed to claw and twist like vengeful ghosts, and from them emanated a dense, tangible aura of resentment.
"So this is the spirit plant aura I sensed back in Yu Lin the Recluse's abode?" The profound resentment made it no surprise that he had easily detected it.
As Lu Chen approached, the sinister spirit plants' branches flailed wildly, assuming an aggressive posture.
"Hmm?"
Lu Chen hummed softly, his voice carrying the faint rumble of thunder.
The spirit plants were highly spiritual, and upon sensing his power, they immediately calmed down, their branches drooping motionlessly.
"Now these are fine spirit plants."
Lu Chen praised, uprooting the ghostly plants and replanting them.
As he focused his mental energy on the ghostly plants, his mind was filled with detailed information about them.
Chi Wood, fifth-grade spirit plant. In an environment of extremely dense yin and resentment, a special kind of grass and wood spirit monster is born, possessing a fierce nature and a limited ability to move.
Feeds on fresh flesh and blood. Once mature, it can be refined into puppet treasures, Chi Wood clones, or used to assist in cultivating certain exotic divine abilities.
There's nothing quite like watching yourself being eaten bit by bit—delicious!
"A fifth-grade spirit plant, similar to the Tree Nymph in that it's a type of grass and wood spirit monster. But while the Tree Nymph is benevolent, the Chi Wood is evil. It's the type that would be purged immediately on Qingmu Planet," Lu Chen mused to himself.
"Four Chi Wood plants. Three have entered maturity, and one is a seedling with great cultivation potential."
Since the spirit plants were already mature, Lu Chen knew that cultivating them further would likely yield no light spheres, or at least not as substantial a reward. He didn't hold much expectation in that regard.
However, the seedling could still be nurtured to maturity, and perhaps a light sphere could be harvested then.
Of course, even if he didn't receive any light spheres, Lu Chen didn't mind having a few more fifth-grade spirit plants in his abode. These three Chi Wood plants were close to maturity, and with minimal time and effort, they could be cultivated and sold for a handsome sum of spirit stones.
He carefully transplanted all the spirit plants into the Gluttonous Worm Pouch.
The emaciated old man, bound by the Multi-Armed Corpse Servant, watched as his carefully cultivated spirit plants were taken by Lu Chen, his eyes widening in fury and despair.
"To brazenly take away his beloved possessions right before the owner's eyes—isn't this a classic plotline from the movies of my past life?"
"Indeed, spirit plants have owners too..."
Unable to bear the old man's pained expression, Lu Chen stuffed him into the Gluttonous Worm Pouch as well and quietly slipped away.
Silently I came, and silently I go, leaving only with all your spirit plants.
...
Back in the Thunderfire Planet Cave, Lu Chen resumed his usual appearance and pretended to have just returned from an exploration, wandering amidst the pervasive, fine thunderous light.
"Brother Lu? I never expected to see you outside your cave. Now that's a rare sight."
"So it's Fellow Gao. It's been a while; how have you been?" Lu Chen greeted the tall and thin Jin Dan cultivator in the early stages of his cultivation.
"All is well, thanks to your concern," the other replied.
"Is Fellow Lu returning to your abode?" Gao asked, his gaze filled with curiosity.
"Indeed, I heard that a small secret realm had appeared in the Star Cave, giving birth to several new spirit plants. Out of curiosity, and after learning that the secret realm was relatively safe, I decided to pay it a visit," Lu Chen explained with a smile.
"Oh? And did you make any interesting discoveries?" Gao inquired, his eyes sparkling with interest.
"Luck was on my side. I managed to obtain several rare spirit plants," Lu Chen replied, his smile widening.
"That's wonderful! I knew that with your cautious nature, you would only venture into a secret realm if you were absolutely certain of your safety," Gao said, nodding in understanding.
"By the way, Fellow Lu, I was just about to invite a few fellow cultivators to join me in hunting a fifth-grade thunder beast deep in the Thunder Sea. Would you care to join us?" Gao asked, his eyes gleaming with excitement.
Lu Chen shook his head hurriedly. "Fellow Gao, you know me. I never actively seek to hunt down beasts. My occasional trips to the Thunder Sea are limited to exploring the fringes and searching for spirit thunder. I would never dare to venture into the central regions."
"I apologize for not being able to join you, but I don't want to hold back my fellow cultivators," Lu Chen added with a sigh, giving no indication of the fierce battle he had just fought against two Jin Dan cultivators.
"Haha, no problem. Don't force yourself, Fellow Lu," Gao said, his laughter echoing in the air. "Next time I visit your abode, I expect to taste the spirit fruits and brews that you cultivate and brew yourself."
"You are most welcome, Fellow Gao. It would be my honor," Lu Chen replied, his smile warm and sincere.
With that, the two cultivators bid each other farewell.
Lu Chen returned to his cave abode without incident and made his way to the Yin Spirit Fields.
He planted the four Chi Wood plants in the Yin region, causing the yin energy in the area to thicken noticeably.
Lu Chen, who was accustomed to such occurrences, addressed the sinister-looking spirit plants, "This place is different from where you previously grew. Here, you'll find plenty of weaker spirit plants that you can bully."
"There are plenty of stronger and more ferocious spirit plants than you here. Behave yourselves, or I'll feed you to it," he continued, pointing to the Yougui Vine, which was casually playing with the Sha La Tree Demon nearby.
As both the Yougui Vine and the Chi Wood were fifth-grade spirit plants, and the former fed on spirit plants, Lu Chen wasn't too concerned about any trouble they might cause.
"Little Fatty, keep an eye on these spirit plants. If they exhibit any unusual behavior, inform me immediately," Lu Chen instructed the Meat Spirit God specifically.
As the Chi Wood were foreign spirit plants with extremely vicious natures, he was concerned about their potential impact on the other unusual spirit plants in the spirit fields and thus felt the need to be cautious.
The Meat Spirit God, with its round body, rolled forward and backward, indicating its agreement.
"Good. Today, I'll treat you to some high-quality flesh and blood," Lu Chen said, taking out a piece of Flesh Mountain cultivator's flesh from the Gluttonous Worm Pouch and tossing it to the pale red meat ball.
The meat ball was incredibly sensitive to the scent of flesh and blood. In an instant, it sensed the extraordinary nature of the flesh and began to churn, revealing a multitude of hideous fissures.
"No!" The fragmented flesh of the Flesh Mountain cultivator seemed to contain a fragment of his consciousness, and upon sensing the terror of the Meat Spirit God, it let out a piercing scream.
The flesh fragments sprouted tendrils like limbs, attempting to escape the large meat ball.
The Meat Spirit God opened its mouth and sucked. The fragments of flesh ruptured silently, transforming into a wisp of bloody energy that was devoured completely.
"Burp~" The Meat Spirit God belched, still seeming to savor the taste.
