Chapter 683: Bring the Ship In!!!
Chapter 683: Bring the Ship In!!!
Boom!
A muffled thunderclap echoed outside, its flash illuminating half of Kuro’s body as he sat in the cabin.
“It’s storming,” Kuro muttered, glancing outside before setting down his bowl. “You lot keep eating—I’ll go check below deck.”
Besides Lida, Sengoku and Yi Xiao were also dining, though Crane wasn’t present. She was currently guarding Donquixote Doflamingo in one of the ship’s lower cabins.
When Kuro descended, he found Crane lounging in a chair, legs crossed, facing Donquixote Doflamingo, who was bound in thick chains.
“You shouldn’t have made me fall. You really shouldn’t.”
Doflamingo sprawled on the floor, his chest rising with laughter. “Kshhhkshhkshh! Making me fall will lead to terrible consequences!”
“Spare me,” Crane snapped. “You lost—that’s that. There’s no ‘but’ in reality.”
“You’re still the same boring old man,” Doflamingo chuckled.
Crane shook his head, glancing at Kuro as he approached. “You’re here.”
Kuro nodded, stopping beside her and lighting a cigar.
Crane turned back to Doflamingo. “You rats have your ways. Tell me—what will the pirate world become next?”
Doflamingo paused, his voice lowering. “Then tell me… what happens when a monster without bait and free of chains runs wild?”
“Does this Grand Line even have a peak now? Is it one of the Four Emperors? The Seven Warlords of the Sea, the cleverest survivors? Or those brats in the Worst Generation?”
“No, none of them.”
“The Navy—the so-called army of Justice—is the true ruler of the seas. And there are still ambitious men among them!”
“The Revolutionary Army, aiming to topple nations, has its own powerhouses too!”
“Kshhhkshhkshh!”
The chains rattled as Doflamingo writhed, his laughter maniacal. “When will the ‘D’ clan, hidden in history’s shadows, finally reveal themselves? Tell those bastards in Mariejois—they’ll fall too! Kshhhkshhkshh! Hahahahaha!”
“Twenty-five years since Gol D. Roger conquered the Grand Line. Whitebeard, his rival, never reclaimed the throne but ruled his time. Now? With pirates multiplying, only one throne remains empty.”
“You understand, don’t you? The greatest war for supremacy in pirate history has begun!”
Boom!
Heavy footsteps of Navy soldiers rushed outside as thunder roared again. Kuro bit his cigar, waving off the soldiers.
“Good insight,” he remarked flatly.
Crane added to Yi Xiao, “Truth is truth. We can’t run from a world we dislike. The Navy must face it all.”
Boom!
Another thunderclap.
“Report!” A soldier burst into the cabin. “We’ve spotted a ship ahead!”
“A ship? What kind?” Kuro frowned.
“We couldn’t tell—the storm’s too fierce.”
Kuro and Crane exchanged a glance. She stood, heading out.
“Keep an eye on him,” she ordered.
The soldiers saluted, tightening their guard on Doflamingo.
Outside, the storm lashed the sea. A massive ship rocked violently on the waves. Its Blood Red sails bore a skull with curved horns and three crossed bones, a white "Eight" beneath. The bow featured a grotesque elephant head with tusks.
On its deck, a pirate peered through a telescope.
“Six warships, and a golden one in the center? That’s a warship? It’s way bigger than normal ones! Is Officer Doflamingo really there?”
“Of course! Our intel’s solid,” another pirate scoffed. “Look—the golden ship’s mast flies the Navy’s flag. Who dares sail such a ship? Don’t they fear envy?”
“With six warships, they’re not messing around. True to Doflamingo’s style,” the first replied.
“This might be a rescue mission we can’t win…”
The pirate turned. “Captain Jack the Disaster! Should we retreat?”
Behind them stood a hulking figure—over eight meters tall—with a golden horsehair braid and twin braids on his temples. His face bore a metal jawguard, and ivory-like decorations crowned his head and shoulders.
He glared, bloodshot eyes blazing. “You bastard! What joke is that? Of course we’re saving him!”
“Eh? We’re going in?”
“Obviously! You think Old Man’s just anyone? A few warships mean nothing!”
Meanwhile, on the Golden Lion’s deck, Sengoku raised his telescope.
“It’s the Beast King’s crew. A heavyweight’s arrived.”
“The Beast King?” Kuro joined him, taking a telescope. “So it’s really them this time.”
He recognized the elephant-headed insignia instantly. One of the Three Disasters under the Beast King—Jack the Disaster, the “Disaster of Drought.”
The reason for his certainty? Years ago, a pirate named Frank had tried the same stunt. The memory was vivid.
“Enemy—just one ship?” Yi Xiao asked, eyes closed.
“Tsk tsk,” Crane chimed, eyeing the enemy ship now charging toward them, its silhouette sharpening in the storm.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The enemy opened fire, cannonballs streaking through the rain.
“Kuro, can your ship take cannon fire?” Sengoku lowered his telescope, smirking. “I heard it’s armored with the same metal used at Marineford to block Whitebeard’s attacks.”
“Even if it can, we can’t let them hit us.” Kuro snapped his fingers. The rain around them veered sideways, forming a dry zone. He exhaled cigar smoke. “This ship’s golden—ain’t just any cannon that’ll crack it.”
Krrrsh! Yi Xiao drew his staff-sword halfway before sheathing it again.
The cannonballs dropped midair, splashing into the sea with Explosions that rippled the waves.
“Port side!” Crane commanded, holding her Transponder Snail. “Fire!”
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The five warships pivoted, unleashing broadsides at the elephant-headed beast. The enemy ship retaliated, dodging and firing in tandem.
The ships closed in. The storm made aiming unstable. Only the Golden Lion remained steady—the rest rocked wildly.
“Kuro, I heard Borsalino added some tricks to your ship,” Crane remarked while directing fire.
“Did he ever. But without Kas and Wilbur, it’s too much trouble to use. Tch—here they come.”
Kuro watched as the elephant-headed ship brushed past a warship, now charging head-on.
Jack the Disaster stood on his deck, glaring at the Golden Lion’s crew.
Sengoku, hands in pockets, adjusted his glasses.
Yi Xiao gripped his staff.
Crane stared ahead, expressionless.
Kuro’s cigar burned as he grinned.
The storm howled, whipping their cloaks into a frenzy.
“Bring The Ship IN!!!”
Jack’s roar tore through the tempest.
