Chapter 682: It's Been a While, Grandine
Chapter 682: It's Been a While, Grandine
Hearing Feng Ye's words, a glimmer shone in Wendy's eyes, and she gratefully exclaimed, "Thank you so much!"
Feng Ye smiled gently and took a step forward, extending his finger towards Wendy's forehead. His touch on her brow unleashed a white magical array.
Including Grandine, all the dragons that had traveled through time with Natsu and the others resided within the bodies of the Dragon Slayers they had fostered, though they remained in a self-imposed sealed state, making communication with their Dragon Slayers somewhat challenging.
Moreover, they also hoped that from now on, Wendy and the others could grow independently and become truly powerful Dragon Slayers capable of defeating the Black Dragon. Thus, they had been watching over them from the shadows.
For Feng Ye, allowing Wendy to meet Grandine was, of course, a simple matter.
Unbeknownst to her, Wendy closed her eyes, and when she opened them again, she found herself in a vast blue sky—inside her own body and within Grandine's seal.
"Grandine!"
As a Sky Dragon Slayer, Wendy naturally feared neither the sky nor its denizens. Upon her arrival, she immediately looked towards the distant horizon, where a familiar celestial dragon floated, eliciting a joyful expression from her as she flew eagerly towards it.
A hint of surprise flashed in Grandine's eyes at the sight of Wendy, and she asked, "Wendy... How did you come here...?"
This was the interior of the seal it had created, and Wendy's consciousness shouldn't have been able to enter unless the seal was broken. Yet, Grandine hadn't sensed any disruption to the seal.
Wendy pounced forward and hugged Grandine's neck affectionately. Hearing Grandine's question, she replied with a cute smile, "A big brother brought me here."
"Brother... Who is it?!" Grandine's gaze sharpened.
To bypass the seal it had crafted and bring Wendy's consciousness within to meet her, one would have to be an extraordinarily powerful mage with an exceptionally deep understanding of Dragon Slayer magic.
Just then, a calm voice echoed from not far away.
"It's been a while, Grandine."
Feng Ye's figure appeared silently in the sky not far away, his gaze directed at Grandine as he spoke casually.
His consciousness had also entered Wendy's body.
"It's you," Grandine said, a hint of relief in her tone as she recognized Feng Ye.
She and Feng Ye had met once before and exchanged insights. Grandine knew that he was a more formidable mage than Jellal and not an evil one.
Grandine turned to Feng Ye and asked, "What year is it outside?"
Feng Ye hovered in the air, his demeanor relaxed as he replied, "X777."
"I see..." Grandine nodded slightly, murmuring, "So the plan did succeed."
Wendy, who had already climbed onto Grandine's back, looked at her curiously and couldn't help but ask, "Grandine, do you know this big brother? What plan are you talking about?"
"It's a plan that I don't need to tell you about for now," Grandine replied, her eyes softening as she looked at Wendy. Then, she turned to Feng Ye and asked, "Mr. Feng Ye, may I ask you for a favor?"
Feng Ye smiled amiably and agreed, "I'll do it."
There was only one thing Grandine could request—that he look after Wendy, as her age was still too young. Moreover, Grandine couldn't break this seal and leave, as doing so would not only attract the Black Dragon but also signify her own death. Wendy's Dragon Slayer magic wasn't yet perfected, and she needed Grandine's presence within her to improve it and prevent the excessive use of Dragon Slayer magic from causing her to undergo a draconic transformation.
"Thank you," Grandine bowed her head to Feng Ye in gratitude.
Wendy blinked, confusion furrowing her brow as she asked, "What are you talking about, Grandine?"
Grandine turned her gentle gaze towards Wendy and explained, "Wendy, I have something important to do for a while, so I won't be able to stay by your side. You'll be living with Mr. Feng Ye for a time."
"Eh?!?" Wendy's eyes widened, and she looked as if she were about to cry as she exclaimed, "Grandine, where are you going? What are you going to do?"
Grandine nuzzled Wendy affectionately with her head, her voice soft as she replied, "I'm going to do something very important, but it won't take long."
"But I don't want to leave Grandine," Wendy pouted, her voice small and plaintive.
Grandine's eyes held a gentle light as she said, "Wendy, you are already a strong Dragon Slayer. It's time for you to learn to stand on your own. Mr. Feng Ye will take care of you, and you'll get to meet more people and make more friends."
With Wendy asleep, Grandine turned to Feng Ye and asked, "Mr. Feng Ye, you should be aware of our plan, right?"
"I know a little," Feng Ye nodded slightly.
Grandine inhaled deeply and asked, "Then, do you think we can defeat Acnologia?"
"Yes," Feng Ye nodded gently.
In truth, the Black Dragon Acnologia had already perfected Dragon Slayer Magic to its utmost limit. Having bathed in the blood of countless dragons and becoming the Dragon King, no matter how much Natsu, Wendy, and the others grew, they would never surpass Acnologia. However, there existed a power that could transcend even Acnologia's might, and that was the One Magic that Feng Ye was still pursuing.
A smile appeared on Grandine's face as she heard Feng Ye's response. "To receive your acknowledgment makes me feel more at ease. I hope you will take good care of Wendy, Mr. Feng Ye."
Feng Ye looked at Grandine and sighed softly. "To defeat Acnologia, you have indeed paid a considerable price."
Grandine slowly spoke, "This is something we must do..."
Feng Ye remained silent, and with a slight movement of his consciousness, his figure vanished like an illusion from within Grandine's seal, returning to the outside world.
His finger was still touching Wendy's forehead, and he gently pulled it back.
Wendy, who was in a drowsy state, swayed and fell to the side, but Feng Ye quickly reached out and caught her, cradling her in his arms.
"Grandine..."
In her sleep, Wendy murmured Grandine's name softly before gradually waking up. After a moment of dazed confusion, she sat up in Feng Ye's embrace, looking around anxiously, but Grandine's figure was nowhere to be seen.
The reunion with Grandine felt like a fleeting dream.
"Has... Has Grandine left?"
"No, she's always watching over you."
Feng Ye smiled gently at Wendy.
Wendy pursed her lips and wiped her eyes with her small hand, doing her best to put on a brave face. "Grandine must have something very important to do. I will... I will strive to become a strong mage."
At this point, she suddenly remembered something and looked up at Feng Ye, her fingers fiddling with her other hand as she asked, "By the way, big brother, do you know my name? I'm Wendy Marvell."
"Just call me Feng Ye," he replied.
Feng Ye ruffled Wendy's hair affectionately and held her with one arm while his other hand gently glided over her body, summoning a verdant green magical array.
The array released a soft glow, quickly healing the wounds on Wendy's arms and legs that had been slashed by the sword grass.
"Big brother, do you know healing magic, too? That's amazing..."
Wendy's eyes sparkled at the sight.
"I know a little," Feng Ye replied modestly.
After healing Wendy's wounds, Feng Ye set her down and asked, "Do you want to go to the Mage Guild?"
"Mage Guild? What's that?"
Wendy tapped her chin with one finger and blinked, looking curious.
Feng Ye gently explained, "It's a place where many mages gather."
Wendy tilted her head back to look up at Feng Ye and asked, "Are you also a member of the guild, Feng Ye big brother?"
Feng Ye smiled amiably and nodded. "Yes."
"Then I want to go and see, too," Wendy said, her large eyes sparkling with anticipation.
Feng Ye nodded gently and said, "Then let's go."
...
Several days later.
Inside the Fairy Tail Guild.
Feng Ye briefly introduced Wendy's situation to Makarov and said, "She's a Sky Dragon Slayer."
Makarov looked at Feng Ye with a skeptical gaze and, after sizing him up for a moment, said, "Funnily enough, another Dragon Slayer, this one a Fire Dragon Slayer, also showed up at the guild this morning. It was also a child, and it seems they appeared together."
He looked at Feng Ye and asked, "Do you know something about this?"
Feng Ye smiled nonchalantly and replied, "I do know a bit. Would you like to hear it, Guild Master?"
"Never mind," Makarov waved his hand dismissively. "If you're not offering the information, it's probably not that important. I won't bother prying into their backgrounds."
Makarov held up two fingers in a V-sign and smiled warmly at Wendy, saying,
"Welcome to Fairy Tail!"
