Chapter 68: The Ruthless One
Chapter 68: The Ruthless One
Three members of the Wild Wolf Gang were startled and quickly turned around. Upon seeing a group from the martial arts academy, especially the beautiful Bai Wei leading them, their faces paled in shock.
There were only a handful of core disciples in each of the three martial arts academies in the area, and Bai Wei, being a beauty, had attracted the private admiration of many within the gang.
Now, the very person they had been talking about stood before them, and it was highly likely that she had overheard their previous conversation.
"Speak," Bai Wei said, her voice cold and commanding.
"We...we were just closing up, paying the stall fee," stammered the man holding the membership card, his head lowered, afraid to meet her gaze.
"Yes, yes," the other two nodded like chickens pecking at rice, their previous arrogance completely gone.
"What? Are you saying that even our senior members have to pay you a stall fee?" Bai Wei's eyes turned cold.
"No, no, of course not. We were just checking, just checking," they hastily explained.
"Yes, just checking, checking, nothing more," they added.
"Finished checking?" Bai Wei asked.
"Yes, we're done. Everything's fine," they replied, eager to appease her.
One of them quickly returned the membership card to Jiang Cheng and then, with a flattering smile, addressed Bai Wei, "Please, continue your conversation. We'll be on our way now."
"Stop!" Bai Wei commanded. "I heard one of you say something about not being able to eat and having to take it with you. What's the meaning of that?"
The atmosphere suddenly turned quiet.
Unbeknownst to them, a crowd had gathered around, drawn by the commotion.
Some were already nearby, watching the scene, while others were attracted by the presence of Bai Wei and her companions.
After all, a potential conflict between the Wild Wolf Gang and the Falcon Fist Martial Hall was too exciting to ignore.
Qian Yun Kai, one of the gang members, stood frozen, as if struck by lightning, cold sweat forming on his back.
Indeed, his worst fear had come true; their earlier conversation had been overheard.
'What bad luck!' he cursed inwardly, but on the surface, he forced a smile and said, "Sister, you must have misheard. When did we ever say such a thing?"
"Yes, yes, sister, we didn't say that, we didn't," the other two echoed, trying to support him.
"Misheard? Hmph," Bai Wei scoffed. She turned her gaze to Jiang Cheng, "Jiang Shidi, what did these people say to you? Tell us, don't hold back, speak freely."
"Yes, Jiang Shidi, go ahead and tell us," the other senior members urged.
Qian Yun Kai glanced anxiously at Jiang Cheng, his eyes warning him to stay silent.
"Yes, Bai Shijie," Jiang Cheng replied, not foolish enough to hide the truth after being threatened. If he didn't speak up, what was the point of his senior membership, and where was the academy's promise of protection?
Jiang Cheng proceeded to recount the entire incident, including the threats made by the gang members.
"No! No!" Qian Yun Kai interrupted several times, vehemently denying the accusations, "There's no such thing! Why are you slandering us?"
However, no one present, not even the onlookers, believed his words.
The reputation of the Wild Wolf Gang members was well-known in the area, and everyone was aware of their nature.
"So bold, daring to target a member of the Falcon Fist Martial Hall," Bai Wei said, her eyebrows raised in anger, her eyes sharp as blades.
Qian Yun Kai's voice trembled as he replied, "Sister, we were prepared to pay."
"Pay? But you said you didn't have much money on you. Clearly, you intended to force a sale," Bai Wei's companion, Sun Xiaoli, interjected.
"That's right. If you dare to target even our senior members, won't you also target us one day?" another member, Wu Tian, added.
"You're already running scared, and yet you still dare to act so arrogantly?" Bai Wei asked.
The other senior members nodded in agreement, their indignation clear.
Firstly, they had witnessed Jiang Cheng's skills and wanted to build a connection with him. Secondly, as fellow senior members, they feared that if these thugs dared to target Jiang Cheng today, they might target them next.
The surrounding crowd, upon hearing this, began to whisper among themselves.
They weren't fools; they could guess from the Wolf Gang's unusual actions.
But when these words came from the mouths of the Martial Hall members, it further confirmed their authenticity.
"The Wolf Gang is leaving this place? How come I didn't know about this?"
A voice rang out.
The crowd on the eastern side scattered like a swarm, and several members of the Wolf Gang, holding watermelon knives, approached with an air of menace.
Leading them was the same small boss who had come a few days ago to announce the price increase, Wu Tian.
And the speaker of those words was none other than him.
"Big Brother Wu!"
"Big Brother Wu!"
Qian Yun Kai and his two companions seemed to have found their savior, and they hurriedly rushed forward.
The several senior members of the Wolf Gang clamped their mouths shut.
Especially the one who had said the Wolf Gang was leaving, who was now scared and hiding behind Bai Wei.
Wu Tian glanced at Bai Wei with apprehension, his gaze falling on the three people in front of him. He furrowed his brows and asked, "What's going on?"
He had been collecting stall fees as usual when a little brother came to tell him that Qian Yun Kai was stopped by members of the Falcon Fist Martial Hall, led by Bai Wei. This made Wu Tian's head throb with anger.
Why would these fools provoke the core disciples of the Martial Hall? Did they think the Wolf Gang was still the same as before?
But with his little brother being bullied, Wu Tian, as the big brother, had to consider his reputation among his gang members. How would they view him if he did nothing?
"Big Brother Wu, that kid's roasted sweet potato business is doing well, and he even has the money to buy a senior membership at the Falcon Fist Martial Hall. We just wanted to buy his secret recipe, but he not only refused to sell, he also slandered us!" Qian Yun Kai complained, feeling wronged.
"Yeah, Big Brother Wu."
"Big Brother Wu, you have to give us justice!"
"Is that so?" Wu Tian looked at Jiang Cheng.
A street vendor selling roasted sweet potatoes, doing well enough to afford a senior membership at a martial hall?
"Wu Tian."
Bai Wei remained unfazed, looking him straight in the eye and saying, "Do you think our senior members would abandon their successful business to pick a fight with your people? It's clear they were forcing a sale, and they even slandered our senior member in public.
Now they're turning the tables on us. If we let this go, how will others view our Falcon Fist Martial Hall in the future? No matter what, this matter, today, you must give us an explanation."
As her voice fell, whispers spread among the onlookers.
They had thought the Martial Hall wasn't afraid of the Wolf Gang.
But they hadn't expected this level of fearlessness.
A weak woman, facing seven or eight knife-wielding men, exuding an aura that didn't falter, insisting on protecting her own members—wasn't this too impressive?
If only they were members of the Falcon Fist Martial Hall.
Wu Tian's expression changed several times, and he finally looked at the three again, asking, "Is what she said true?"
"Big Brother..."
Qian Yun Kai was speechless.
The other two also lowered their heads.
"Okay."
Wu Tian nodded, then swung his arm and slapped Qian Yun Kai across the face.
"Smack!"
The loud slap startled everyone present.
Qian Yun Kai staggered back several steps, his cheek swelling, but before he could speak, Wu Tian quickly stepped forward and kicked him in the stomach.
Qian Yun Kai screamed and fell to the ground.
Wu Tian took two more steps forward and unleashed a series of fierce kicks!
"Big Brother Wu! I was wrong! I was wrong! I won't dare again! I promise!" Qian Yun Kai squealed like a pig being slaughtered.
"Big Brother Wu, I was wrong, spare me!"
"Bang! Bang! Bang!" The response was the sound of dull thuds.
"Big Brother..."
"Big Brother Wu, Little Qian is ignorant, please let it go this time!"
Several members of the Wolf Gang pleaded, their faces showing reluctance.
Wu Tian ignored them and continued kicking for ten more kicks. The person on the ground was now motionless, whether dead or unconscious.
Only then did he look up at Bai Wei.
The entire place fell silent.
