Chapter 68: The Fighting Dog Manor
Chapter 68: The Fighting Dog Manor
One of them was already fast asleep, while the other leaned against a pillar of the rain shelter, dozing off with his arms crossed over his chest.
The Jackal Gang, being a local gang in Mayst County, was known for its low-quality members, mostly thugs and ruffians.
It was unrealistic to expect them to be vigilant and dedicated to their duty during the late-night rain.
The negligent guards made things much easier for Rain.
Rain took out a gray cloth from his pocket and tied it around his eyes, securing it tightly at the back of his head, resembling the famous 'Zorro'.
The only difference was that Zorro's mask was black, while Rain's was gray.
With ten points in Strength, Rain stealthily crept up and effortlessly twisted the neck of the dozing young man, gently lowering his body to the ground.
Then, he grabbed the sleeping man's neck and dragged him into the rain.
Due to his increased height of over twenty centimeters, Rain's loose steel plate mail from Hamilton immediately became taut, and the cotton sleeves without metal plates tore open at the seams.

As Rain entered, the massive jackal lifted its head slightly from its prone position and squinted at him.
With another Cyclone Slash, the two stunned Jackal Gang leaders were instantly bisected at the waist, their blood splattering as the lower halves of their bodies remained in place for a few seconds before the upper halves fell to the ground, twitching.
It was either him or me! "Whoosh!"
"Woof!"
But this wasn't the end; Rain wasn't in a hurry to question the man.
The two Jackal Gang leaders, startled by Rain's sudden intrusion, stood up and shouted.
Their eyes bulged as if in disbelief, seemingly questioning why they were being killed despite their cooperation. There were no noble heirs lodging at the Fighting Dog Manor.
Although both of them were stunned, their knees buckled, and their arms went numb, they were secretly relieved, thinking, "We thought the intruder was incredibly powerful, but it turns out he's just as strong as us!"
"My dear friend, if there's been a misunderstanding, let's sit down and talk it out."
"Who gave you the courage to think you could stop me?"
It was clear that this was Cole, the leader of the Jackal Gang.
"Hua!"
Looking at the two smug Jackal Gang leaders, Rain smiled and said:
It wasn't until Rain reached the three-story wooden house at the center of the Fighting Dog Manor that he was spotted by a few roaming jackals.
On the long table, there were piles of gold coins, over a hundred silver coins, and even more shillings and pennies.
"Where's the Jackal Queen?"
The next second! A ripping sound echoed! Rain used his new skill, 'Power Surge', for the first time.
The Jackal Gang member's head twisted in a bizarre 180-degree angle.
Instantly, he felt his heart contract forcefully, pumping out a warm surge that caused all his major muscle groups to swell and bulge as if injected with stimulants.
"How many people are inside? Tell me everything you know."
"The Jackal Queen and Cole are inseparable. They're in the main house."
Facing the sudden intrusion, the fat, white-skinned 'Cole' remained calm, unlike the two Jackal Gang leaders who had panicked earlier.
He was a fat, bald man over two meters tall, sitting in a customized soft deer leather armchair in the center of the room. His heavy weight had created a deep indentation in the soft cushion.
Upon seeing this, Rain no longer hid his presence and instead charged towards the house's entrance.
At first, the man didn't understand the situation and tried to struggle, but Rain punched him in the upper right abdomen—the stomach area, causing his eyes to bulge out.
'Dog King' Cole relaxed his grip on the knife handle on the side of the chair and instead watched with amusement.
"Guards! Guards!"
Rain immediately realized that this massive jackal was the rumored mutated Jackal Queen.
Deep within the dense forest, Rain scrutinized Cole with a keen eye, his fleshy face accentuating the smallness of his eyes. Those pitch-black orbs, glistening with cunning, rolled in their sockets as he sized up his target.
"Clang!" Without hesitation, Rain's foot propelled him forward, launching himself at Cole with lightning speed.
Two high-ranking members of the Jackal Gang, positioned on either side, roared and brandished their iron clubs, attempting to intercept Rain's charge and protect their boss from his onslaught.
Inside the hall, besides the corpulent, white-robed boss seated in the center, two middle-aged men of average build, presumably also high-ranking gang members, were tallying the evening's dog-fighting earnings.
"There are about fifteen to sixteen core members of the Jackal Gang here, plus the boss, Cole," Rain thought to himself, assessing the situation.
He found the gang's strength underwhelming, their swordsmanship and speed comparable to that of a first-level knight's attendant, similar to his own two subordinates. This realization emboldened Rain, and he unleashed a downward slash, sending the two gatekeepers flying and shattering the thick wooden door with a single strike.
"If you're an assassin, it's simple. Look at the money on the table; if someone hired you to kill me, you can take double the amount they offered from there." Rain's words were laced with sarcasm.
One of the gang members, brimming with confidence, shouted, "Boss, leave this clueless fool to us! We'll make sure he doesn't leave in one piece!"
"Who on earth hired this idiot to assassinate me? He doesn't even know his own strength! He's practically delivering himself to us! What a fool!" Rain's left hand casually stroked the massive jackal beside him, a beast the size of a wild boar.
"Yes, sir!" The man, having endured Rain's silent treatment, beatings, and broken fingers, was on the verge of a mental breakdown.
"Who are you?" Rain asked, his voice echoing through the hall.
"No need to shout; all your guards have already returned to the embrace of the Goddess," Rain declared, his gaze sweeping the room, intentionally ignoring the two normal-sized humans and focusing on the corpulent boss and the enormous jackal.
The variety and amount of coins on the table were a testament to the substantial gambling profits generated by the dog-fighting manor each day.
"Ding-a-ling!" Rain, well aware of Cole's notorious stinginess and the irreconcilable rift between them, had no qualms about his actions. As he infiltrated the manor, he silently eliminated any patrolling gang members or stragglers he encountered.
"Crack!" Rain, having silently recited the Blacksmith's Strength, unleashed his strike, only to realize that the skill had evolved into a higher tier—Power Burst.
Gagging his opponent and delivering another round of beatings, Rain broke two of the man's fingers before calmly asking, "Is Cole inside?"
The iron clubs slipped from the gang members' hands, their faces contorted in disbelief and agony.
"A Knight!" Cole, the white-robed boss weighing several hundred pounds, leaped from his armchair, his beady eyes wide with shock.
The massive jackal queen, previously lounging lazily, sprang to her feet, her gaze fixed on Rain with heightened alertness.
