Chapter 68: Television
Chapter 68: Television
"I plan to repair the Pokemon House first and start raising a Miltank," Naoki said.
He paused and asked, "Are there any other Pokemon facilities here?"
"Of course," Keli replied with a smile, turning towards the room. "Come with me! The woodworking shop just received a new batch of building materials, and we can now build a greenhouse!"
Naoki followed her. "A greenhouse?"
"Yes, it's similar to an eco-garden with adjustable temperature control. But a greenhouse is mainly for growing crops; it maintains a warm environment all year round, allowing you to grow produce from other seasons," Keli explained.
As they spoke, the two entered the house.
Keli pulled out a list from the counter and presented it to Naoki.
It had a long list of constructible facilities—
Greenhouse, Pokemon House, Grassland, Sheep Pen, Fish Pond...
In addition, the woodworking shop also sold furniture and ranch tools.
Basic wooden tables and chairs, recliner sofas, fireplaces, scarecrows, crab cages, glass fish tanks, chandeliers, floor lamps, wardrobes, storage cabinets, double beds, and more.
Naoki's heart stirred with desire, and he wanted to buy everything at once, but his funds were limited.
Just building the Pokemon House would cost him 50,000 Pokedollars, and he had barely saved up 120,000 over this period, half of which would be spent on the Pokemon House.
As for the price of the greenhouse...
Naoki took a look and exclaimed; it was a whopping 250,000 Pokedollars!
Seeing his reaction, Keli gave a slightly helpless explanation:
"It's because of the different materials used! The Pokemon House is built with ordinary wood and stone, but the greenhouse uses special materials. It has temperature control functions and can simulate the environment of the four seasons."
"I see," Naoki sighed after hearing this explanation.
What a long way to go!
"Then let's just build one Pokemon House for now," he said.
Keli nodded with a smile: "No problem."
After making the payment, Keli informed him that she would lead a construction team to start building first thing tomorrow morning.
Naoki nodded and left the woodworking shop, returning to Mizz Town.
This time, his destination was the department store in town.
It was called a "skyscraper," but it was only five stories high, far inferior to the Silver Company in the Celadon region.
But despite its small size, it had everything one could need.
The first floor was a clothing store, catering to men, women, the elderly, and children of all sizes and builds.
The second floor sold trainer supplies, mainly space backpacks, sleeping bags, camping gear, and a wide variety of Poke Balls.
Naoki had bought his space backpack here.
The third floor was an appliance store, Naoki's destination.
A variety of appliances were available here—toilets, washing machines, color televisions, air conditioners, refrigerators, hairdryers, rice cookers...
This time, Naoki planned to buy the television, refrigerator, and air conditioner all at once.
He walked up to check their prices; there were many types of televisions, ranging from 7,000 to 100,000 Pokedollars.
The cheapest refrigerator was 50,000, and the most expensive was 200,000.
Naoki wanted to buy the best one, but his budget was limited, so he had to settle for something more suitable.
Television—9,000, Refrigerator—53,000.
The cheapest air conditioner was 30,000. After buying the TV and fridge, he had very little money left, and he needed to keep some for living expenses.
"Never mind, it's still over a month until summer, and the weather isn't too hot yet, so the air conditioner can wait.
After paying, his remaining balance was a meager 8,000 Pokedollars, just barely enough.
However, Naoki wasn't worried. In a couple of days, he'd be able to harvest a batch of rock salt and sheep milk, and then he'd have more funds again.
Upon returning to the ranch, he found that the department store had also delivered the television and refrigerator.
The television of that time was quite outdated; it was an old-fashioned rear-projection TV with a small screen and a bulky body.
The refrigerator was a side-by-side model, with the upper section being a fresh food compartment for storing items like eggs, vegetables, fresh milk, and juice, while the lower section was a freezer compartment ideal for storing purchased pork for extended periods.
Naoki directed the deliverymen to place the refrigerator next to the cabinets and then moved the video phone to his desk, positioning the television at the foot of his bed.
Frosty, who had been playing outside, immediately ran over curiously to check out the commotion.
Looking up at the large refrigerator, she asked, "Mama!"
Naoki took out eggs, tree fruit, and sheep milk from the storage cabinet and placed them in the refrigerator. He replied, "This is a refrigerator, used to store food. For example, if you put your cream in here, it will stay fresh for a long time and won't spoil. It can also help make frozen cream cheese cake."
"Mama!" Frosty exclaimed, immediately captivated. She circled the refrigerator, examining it from all angles.
Meanwhile, Naoki walked over to the television and began tuning the channels.
The installer had mentioned that to watch programs from around the world, one would need to pay an annual fee of 3,000 Pokedollars.
At only 3,000 a year, the price was incredibly reasonable, and Naoki had no objections.
In a world that had not yet reached the age of the internet, such charging methods were standard.
"How backward," Naoki muttered to himself, unsure how to evaluate the level of technology in this world.
It felt advanced in some ways, yet here he was, staring at a television that looked like it was from the 1990s. Yet, at the same time, they had time machines and space backpacks, which were incredibly high-tech.
However, according to the setting, the time machine invented by Dr. Olin and Dr. Fort was created using the unique environment deep within the Pathia Pit.
In other words, it was impossible to use or create a time machine outside of that specific location.
"Gourmet, Miltank, Torbacore... I wonder what the relationship is between these legendary Pokemon," Naoki mused.
Every time he thought about it, he couldn't help but sigh; he had crossed over at the wrong time! He hadn't even gotten to play the Purple DLC yet!
Sighing inwardly, he turned on the television. The screen first showed static before displaying a program.
It seemed to be a cooking show, featuring a chef in a hat and uniform preparing a dish.
Naoki watched for a while; the screen wasn't very clear, but it was still watchable.
He picked up the remote control and changed the channel, browsing through a few other programs.
There were weather forecasts, drama series and movies, advertisements for MooMoo Milk, news broadcasts, and even programs from outside the Pathia region—Professor Oak's Pokemon lecture.
Seeing the familiar yet strange face on the screen, Naoki couldn't help but marvel at the fame of Professor Oak.
He was quite satisfied.
With the television, he could now learn about the situation in other regions of this world.
