Chapter 679: Mantis's Abilities (Second Update)
Chapter 679: Mantis's Abilities (Second Update)
"The Celestial Power is quite similar to the Reality Gem's power!"
Walking through the pure white interior of the spaceship, Jerry felt the Celestial Power emanating from the entire vessel. He quickly realized that this power was very similar to the Reality Gem's ability to turn imagination into reality.
Both are creative energies that can transform energy into any equivalent form of matter.
This ability is actually very difficult to counter, especially since Ego has mastered this creative power over countless ages, refining it to perfection.
Jerry possesses countless types of Magic, including transformation spells similar to this creative ability, and has also comprehended many laws.
Ego, on the other hand, has dedicated himself to studying his Celestial Power, pushing his abilities to their utmost limit.
The two of them have taken two different paths to strength. Jerry is more versatile, while Ego is more specialized, both with the potential to reach the pinnacle of power.
Neither approach is right or wrong; it just depends on which one suits them better.
Jerry, being able to traverse countless worlds and collect Magic and laws from each, finds it most suitable to be versatile and build his own dimensional world.
This is why he was able to reach the peak of Celestial Level power in just a few decades.
After a quick tour of the ship, Jerry returned to the central guest area.
Star-Lord, Drax, and Mantis, who had just helped Ego fall asleep, were sitting there, seemingly chatting.
Nebula, Gamora, Groot, and Rocket were standing to the side, watching the scene unfold.
"Hey, can I ask you a personal question?"
Star-Lord cleared his throat and addressed Mantis.
Mantis blinked her large, dark eyes and replied with a curious tone:
"Nobody has ever asked me a personal question before. Go ahead!"
She had been found by Ego when she was young and raised on Ego's planet. Aside from using her ability to help Ego sleep, she spent her days wandering the desolate planet, feeling lonely.
Today, she was delighted to meet so many interesting people.
"What are those antennae on your head for?"
Star-Lord pointed to the two long antennae on Mantis's head.
Before Mantis could answer, Drax, sitting on the other side, excitedly chimed in:
"Quill and I made a bet. I bet that if you had to walk through a particularly low door, your antennae would sense it, so you wouldn't get stuck."
"Oh, don't say that in front of the person you're betting against."
Quill complained, but quickly adopted a curious expression as he looked at Mantis:
"Indeed, if your antennae aren't for sensing doors, then I win. So, what are they for?"
"They aren't for sensing doors, of course."
Mantis replied with a bewildered look.
"She's not a cat who needs whiskers to sense space!"
Jerry couldn't help but laugh at the two bored individuals and conjured a chair to sit down.
"Really? Not for sensing doors? That's impossible."
Drax's voice was filled with disbelief.
Nebula and Gamora, sitting across from them, exchanged a look of exasperation.
Rocket, perched on Groot's shoulders, mercilessly taunted Drax:
"I knew you and Quill would lose that bet!"
To be honest, although the Guardians of the Galaxy are often unreliable, being around them is indeed very entertaining.
"My antennae can indeed be used to sense, but not spatially. They sense emotions and feelings. When my hands touch you, I can sense the emotions in your heart. I can even change your mood, making you calm down. My master often misses his offspring and needs my help to fall asleep."
Mantis shook her antennae and explained to everyone.
Hearing this, Jerry couldn't help but marvel at the sheer power of Mantis's abilities.
It might sound easy, like she's just a psychological hypnotist, but if you think about it, her abilities can affect someone as powerful as Ego, a Celestial Level being. That's how terrifying they are.
As long as her hands touch you and she activates her ability, even someone as strong as Ego or Thanos, both Celestial Level beings, can be briefly and forcefully immobilized.
For ordinary people, just a touch from her will send them into a deep sleep.
Imagine that this is an innate ability she was born with, no training or learning required. In a true battle between experts, a split-second delay in reaction could mean death. So, Mantis's control ability is undoubtedly top-tier.
However, her weakness is also obvious: her physical strength is average. If someone wants to kill her, a single shot from a distance would do the job.
"Would you like to try it?"
After finishing her explanation, Mantis looked at Star-Lord.
Star-Lord hesitated for a moment but then nodded. He felt that his heart was pure and had nothing to hide.
Mantis placed one hand on Star-Lord's hand, and the tips of her antennae slowly lit up. A serene smile spread across her face.
"I can feel it. Your heart is full of love."
"Of course, I have always had an impartial and boundless love for everyone", Star-Lord immediately puffed out his chest and adopted a righteous expression.
However, before he could finish, Mantis interrupted him.
"No, that's not it. It's a romantic love, a love for the bedroom. You have a strong desire for the bedroom with her!"
Mantis pointed at a bewildered Gamora.
Star-Lord quickly pulled his hand away from Mantis and hurriedly defended himself.
"No, I don't, it's a misunderstanding."
But by then, Drax and Rocket's laughter had erupted like a flood, and even Jerry and the usually stoic Nebula couldn't help but laugh.
Gamora's green skin flushed with a light pink, and the corners of her mouth twitched slightly.
As for Star-Lord, he lowered his head and muttered to himself in the midst of everyone's laughter.
"Alright, I admit it. But this is really, really awkward."
"Try me, try me!"
Seeing that Mantis's ability was genuine, Drax pointed at himself and laughed like a fool.
Mantis, who had never used her ability on anyone other than Ego, found it equally fascinating and placed her hand on Drax without hesitation.
She then burst into laughter, just like Drax.
After touching Drax, she tried to touch Gamora, but Gamora grabbed her wrist.
"If you dare to use your ability on me, the only thing you'll feel is the pain of a broken jaw!"
Gamora didn't want Mantis to read her current emotions, or she would be socially dead.
