Chapter 678: The Impact
Chapter 678: The Impact
The voting results of the Jonin shocked the ninjas present.
However, regardless of their thoughts, the outcome was now irreversible.
In the Jonin voting round, Yu Sheng Mu Yue had gained an absolute advantage.
After the meeting, Mu Yue's friends congratulated him one after another.
"Mu Yue, you're really going places now. The position of Hokage is within your grasp," Ku Kinenai exclaimed, patting Mu Yue's shoulder excitedly.
In fact, a long time ago, when they were in the upper ninja school, Ku Kinenai also aspired to become the Hokage and be the first female Hokage of Konoha.
However, Ku Kinenai didn't have any particular reason to become the Hokage; she just saw it as a lofty ambition, as she was someone who refused to settle for mediocrity.
"It's not certain until the final results are out," Mu Yue shook his head.
He didn't think becoming the Hokage was something to be happy about, and it was inappropriate to pop open champagne bottles at this point.
"Indeed, we can't be careless, but we should still congratulate you on gaining so much support in the Jonin vote," Water Gate said with a gentle smile.
Seeing his friend suppressing a predecessor like the Three Sages in the Fourth Hokage election, Water Gate had mixed feelings.
Back when Mu Yue was a Chunin, he was already a well-known Jonin, and now Mu Yue was about to become the Hokage, while he was just the leader of the Jonin class.
However, Water Gate neither envied nor felt jealous of Mu Yue; he only admired him.
Being familiar with Mu Yue, Water Gate knew that all of this was due to Mu Yue's abilities and contributions to Konoha, rather than any connections he had within the higher-ups.
If Water Gate were in Mu Yue's position, he knew he wouldn't be able to achieve what Mu Yue had.
"I gave you my precious vote, so it's not unreasonable to celebrate with a big feast after such a huge advantage," Tsunade said bluntly.
Mu Yue nodded; an occasional grand feast wasn't a bad idea.
Jiraiya, who was trying to make a joke to comfort Orochimaru, was startled when he heard this.
It was fine to return to Konoha, but it would be a pity if he rushed back and missed out on Mu Yue's treat.
"Ahem, Orochimaru, we seniors should be magnanimous. Although you and Mu Yue are competing for the Hokage position, it shouldn't affect our personal relationship," Jiraiya said with a serious expression.
He wanted to freeload on the meal, but Jiraiya felt it was inappropriate to leave Orochimaru behind, so he had to bring him along.
"Jiraiya, when did you get the idea that you're capable of teaching me?" Orochimaru said indifferently and walked straight towards Mu Yue, calmly requesting to join the feast.
The fact that his votes were crushed by a junior did make Orochimaru feel a little uncomfortable; he had his pride, after all.
But it was only a fleeting feeling because that junior was Mu Yue.
When he heard that he was running against Mu Yue for the Hokage position, Orochimaru knew he was chosen as a mere runner-up.
How could he win against Mu Yue? Aside from their mission records, there was almost nothing he could beat Mu Yue at.
In terms of strength, Mu Yue could severely injure the Fourth Kazekage with a single punch and had even developed the unique Wood Style, a skill exclusive to the God of the Ninja. In terms of achievements, Mu Yue was the hero of Konoha who ended the Third Great Shinobi War.
Orochimaru, who was well aware of the gap between them, didn't feel too disappointed.
Moreover, they were partners, and strictly speaking, Mu Yue becoming the Hokage was a good thing for Orochimaru, even though it wasn't as good as becoming the Hokage himself.
"And me too."
Jiraiya was surprised that the indifferent Orochimaru also loved to freeload meals, so he paused for a moment.
As they came back to their senses, they realized they had walked quite a distance while chatting, so they hurried to catch up.
In addition to his friends, Yu Sheng Mu Yue had also invited his students, including Asama and Teuchi, to join them for dinner.
"Teacher Yu Sheng's cooking is so delicious that I never get tired of it. If only the Sharingan could copy this, I wouldn't have to bother Teacher Yu Sheng and could eat it every day," Teuchi sighed, wishing the Sharingan could replicate Yu Sheng's cooking skills.
He had tried to use the Sharingan to replicate Yu Sheng's cooking techniques exactly, but he couldn't replicate the deliciousness of Yu Sheng's dishes; the taste was just passable.
"The Sharingan isn't all-powerful. If you seriously studied under Teacher Yu Sheng, you might even surpass him," Zhi Shui replied casually.
"Then I'll forget about it. I'll learn cooking later when my strength is no longer improving," Teuchi said.
Teuchi didn't want to waste time on cooking and risk being surpassed by Kakashi, only to be mocked by him.
"But with Teacher Yu Sheng's advantage, my brilliant plan is wasted." Teuchi quickly steered the conversation back to the Hokage election.
"It doesn't seem like a waste. We can keep it in mind and use it when I run for Hokage."
"It's still a waste." Zhi Shui gently reminded him that reckless actions could backfire.
"Don't you think my idea is good, Zhi Shui?"
"A thousand years ago, it might have been a brilliant plan worthy of applause."
Teuchi: ...
Upon arriving at the Uchiha Clan Compound, the two parted ways and returned to their respective homes.
Soon after Zhi Shui returned home, Uchiha Fugaku personally visited him.
"Did you have dinner at Teacher Yu Sheng's place today?" Uchiha Fugaku asked.
He had seen Zhi Shui leaving with Yu Sheng and the others.
"Yes," Zhi Shui nodded.
"Teacher Yu Sheng will most likely become the next Hokage. We must seize this opportunity. Once the village's opinion shifts in favor of Teacher Yu Sheng, we must push for his appointment," Uchiha Fugaku said hastily.
"We'll gather the elders for a meeting and reach a consensus before the clan meeting."
The Uchiha Clan wasn't opposed to entering the core decision-making circle of Konoha; they just couldn't find a way in.
Yu Sheng had an excellent reputation among the Uchiha Clan, and the Uchiha ninjas knew that their two geniuses were Yu Sheng's disciples.
With Yu Sheng's support, Uchiha Fugaku believed the elders wouldn't oppose the Police Department reforms.
Unless they didn't want the Uchiha Clan to improve, in which case Uchiha Fugaku would exercise his rights as the clan leader.
"Mhm," Zhi Shui nodded again.
Uchiha Fugaku's actions gave Zhi Shui a new understanding of the power and status of the Hokage.
Although Uchiha Fugaku had previously supported him, he wasn't as proactive. Now that Yu Sheng had a chance to succeed the Hokage, Uchiha Fugaku became much more enthusiastic.
Zhi Shui didn't mind Uchiha Fugaku's behavior; after all, he was acting in the best interest of the Uchiha Clan.
He thought that Uchiha Fugaku, as a dedicated Uchiha, would rather betray the village than the clan.
PS:
I'm feeling terrible, and I'm afraid that if I write more, I might ruin the plot I've planned. Plus, it's getting late, so I'll stop here at 2,000 words.
I have a day off today, so hopefully, I can recover and write more later, making up for the missing 2,000 words.
