Chapter 677: My Wish is World Peace
Chapter 677: My Wish is World Peace
One day later, several Warships arrived at the port. At the gap in Dressrosa where a piece of land had been removed, the Warships docked, and some Navy personnel stood at the ready, offering military salutes. The Warships lowered their gangways, allowing several figures to disembark.
"Ahh, finally here", Sengoku said, munching on snacks while wearing a flowered shirt and loose pants.
"Shut up, you noisy old man! You've been talking nonstop the entire way. Let's go", He snapped, shooting him a glare as they approached the Navy Base tent.
Yi Xiao sat on a wooden crate, a portable table set before him as he ate soba noodles.
"Oh! Yi Xiao, I've already heard the old man's story—you and Kuro drove off Charlotte 'Big Mom' together!" Sengoku exclaimed.
Yi Xiao took a bite of noodles. "Thanks entirely to Kuro Brother's efforts."
She nodded. "Too bad we couldn't capture Luffy's Crew and Law, but you can't be blamed. After all, you were busy fighting Big Mom at the time. Where's Kuro now?"
"Outside Donquixote Doflamingo's tent", Yi Xiao replied.
"Heard the king of Dressrosa changed?" He asked.
"I wouldn't know about that. Kuro Brother was the one who made the decision", Yi Xiao said while chewing.
"Seems we've chosen a decent king. That David fellow has the heart of a knight."
"A knight, huh?" She nodded, then fell silent and walked toward where Donquixote Doflamingo was imprisoned.
Outside a nearby tent, a similar portable table stood. Kuro, Lida, and Moer sat around it on wooden crates, eating soba noodles.
"This flavor's pretty good. We should have Ju Geng learn to make it sometime", Kuro said, holding a glass in his left hand while using his right to pick up noodles from a bamboo steamer, dipping them into sauce.
These so-called soba noodles were actually chilled, but the taste really was quite good.
"Oh! Kuro!" Sengoku approached, chewing mochi while watching Kuro eat. He ordered a Navy officer, "Bring me one too!"
"Yes! Right away, sir!" the officer saluted.
"What a peaceful scene. Retirement must be treating you well, Sengoku-san", Kuro said flatly, glancing at him.
"Ahhaha, too bad you can't retire yet, Kuro!" Sengoku laughed heartily.
Kuro shrugged at He. "Long time no see, He Popo."
"I've heard all about it. You did well with Heavenly Yaksha", she replied.
Kuro motioned behind him with his lips. "Don't worry, I'm keeping watch. He won't escape."
He sighed. "What a situation. Another one bites the dust."
"As inevitable as rain falling from the sky", Kuro said.
"Then let's take him away. Are you coming back with us?" He asked.
"Of course. What would I stay here for?" Kuro replied.
"Ahhaha, really? But you chose a king. Don't you need to stay a while longer?" Sengoku chuckled.
"I'm just a Navy officer. Why meddle in their internal affairs? Changing the king was at headquarters' request. I merely carried out orders. You understand", Kuro said.
"Then let's board your ship. I haven't been aboard your flagship yet. How is it, Little Crane?" Sengoku said.
"That's fine, though your flagship must be the safest", He smiled. "You caused quite a commotion back at Headquarters."
Kuro twitched his lips. Can you really blame him?
After Sengoku finished his soba, Kuro clapped. "Alright, we've stayed long enough. Let's head back."
She nodded, then ordered the officers to escort Donquixote Doflamingo to Kuro's ship. The group proceeded to the port, where besides numerous Warships, the massive golden flagship stood, its dazzling presence impossible to miss.
"Lord!" As Kuro's group was about to board, a voice called from behind. Kuro turned to see David standing alone, looking anxious. "Lord, I heard you're leaving?"
"Don't call me that. You're making me sound like some big shot", Kuro said. "Now that you're king, act like one. You're a decent guy. You'll develop this country well."
"Understood, lord." David nodded firmly. "Lord, I still don't know your wish."
"My wish? Peace and safety, of course." Kuro blurted out, but noticing Sengoku, He, Yi Xiao, and others nearby, he paused. After a moment, he added, "World peace." That was close enough. Couldn't say he was wrong.
David looked stunned. "Such a grand wish indeed."
"Just work hard to bring peace to your own country", Kuro said, waving dismissively before boarding the ship.
As the golden ship and other Warships sailed away, David murmured, "World peace, huh?"
"Lord, by not attending my wedding yet urging me to be a proper king, do you think I'm not ready to govern Dressrosa? I understand now. Dressrosa shall become your sword, clearing all obstacles in your path!" David seemed to have made a firm decision as he turned and walked inside.
"From this day forward, I shall be King David. Everything I do will be for my lord's wish!"
"Finally, damn it, we can leave", Kuro said on the deck, watching Dressrosa disappear. "I was about to grow mold in that place."
"Hey Kuro, I heard you have a great chef here. Let the old man taste her craftsmanship", Sengoku chuckled.
"That's no problem. Since you're here, I can't treat you poorly", Kuro replied, then asked, "But what about Donquixote Doflamingo's defeat? Doesn't headquarters have any thoughts on this?"
Sengoku's smile faded. "In this world, when you lose, you must accept it. What happens is beyond our predictions. His control has slipped. Any turmoil in the New World is no surprise. Our only duty is to maintain order, preventing collapse."
Looking around, he continued, "I opposed Yi Xiao's proposal, but since I'm retired now, these matters fall to you. Your decision to change Dressrosa's king was correct. If King Riku remained, things would've been very complicated."
Kuro understood this well. The World Meeting was approaching. If Dressrosa's king hadn't changed, Dold would've supported Yi Xiao's proposal first, followed by the Nefertari family and the Flower Country. With three major nations supporting them, smaller nations would follow. They might've succeeded.
"Isn't this our mistake to begin with?" Kuro exhaled smoke. "The Seven Warlords of the Sea selection has serious issues. At least Whitebeard II—I really dislike that one."
