Chapter 675: Unexpected Gain
Chapter 675: Unexpected Gain (Additional Chapter for Yulan Yuehe)
"Molly is pregnant? That's wonderful news, but it's a shame I didn't have a proper gift ready. You should have told us earlier—" Hermione immediately started chattering when she heard the news, but she was quickly interrupted by Sirius Black. "The gift you gave us at our wedding was already very precious. Besides, everyone is on edge right now, and there's no need to let my personal matters affect everyone else."
"How can you say it affects everyone?" Liam countered. "In such a tense situation, any good news can boost everyone's morale. The birth of a new life is undoubtedly good news."
"Alright, alright, you're right. I'll let Remus know later. But honestly, Kreacher is always around Molly now, and she's being taken care of very well", Sirius Black said, waving his hand in resignation. "Anyway, let's change the subject. What brings you all the way to London today?"
"Don't worry, we're not here because we need more hands on deck", Liam waved his hand to reassure Sirius that they weren't recruiting him for battle, especially since Sirius needed time with his pregnant wife. "In fact, we have more than enough people for our current plan. We just need some crucial information."
"Information?" Sirius Black asked, his expression relaxing a bit. "If it's something I know, I'll tell you everything, no holding back."
"Good to hear." Liam smiled. "We have enough people to carry out our next mission, but we need to know the locations of the manors and estates of the Pureblood Families who support the Dark Lord."
"What do you need that information for?" Sirius Black asked, surprised. "From what I know, those Death Eaters are either always with Voldemort or working at the Ministry of Magic. They don't usually stay at their homes."
"That's not your concern." Hermione chimed in, having quickly figured out Liam's next move after he explained their purpose. "Don't worry, we're not heartless Death Eaters. We won't harm innocent people, even if they're related to Death Eaters."
"Alright, I'll trust you this time." Sirius Black then walked up the stairs and returned a few seconds later with a thick book bound in green leather, adorned with silver-embossed patterns. "If you need to know the locations of the manors, estates, and mines of British wizards, this book is your best bet."
Sirius Black placed the book on the table, and Liam noticed that the silver patterns on the cover were not just decorative. In the center, the patterns formed letters, though the words they spelled were not in common English but in Ancient Latin.
"The Sacred Families, 1936 edition", Hermione read softly, then asked, "Is this some kind of magical book? It's not one of those that only Purebloods can open, is it?"
"Of course not." Sirius Black chuckled. "Being cautious is good, but being overly cautious is unnecessary. This is just an ordinary book, similar to the textbooks you used in school. To be precise, it's much like a Muggle phone book, used for communication among Pureblood Families."
"You know about phone books?" Hermione found it hard to believe. "I always thought wizards generally don't care much about Muggle life. From my experience, even Muggle-born wizards in Britain tend to lose touch with the Muggle world over time, falling behind the times."
"Maybe others do, but not me." Sirius Black shrugged. "If not for this damned war, I would have moved to a Muggle community long ago for the sake of my wife and future child's safety. At least there, we'd have plenty of sunlight, a beautiful garden, and a TV to watch when we get home."
Liam wasn't surprised by Sirius Black's statement. In his rebellious youth, Sirius had deliberately immersed himself in the Muggle world, filling his house with posters from that era and even buying a motorcycle to ride around. Over time, some of these interests had become genuine passions.
While thinking about these things, Liam flipped open The Sacred Families. This book listed over 70 Wizardclans in alphabetical order by surname, covering almost all the clans with a significant history in the British Wizarding World. After a quick scan of the table of contents, Liam was certain that all the Pureblood Families he had encountered at school were documented here.
Liam found the Potter clan and the Weasley Family, but these two clans didn't seem to receive much attention from the editor. This might be because they lacked significant influence or wealth. For instance, the Weasley Family was only noted for owning a large but barren plot of land. The Potter clan, on the other hand, mentioned that the head of the family, Henry Potter, was a retired member of the Wizengamot and had previously clashed with the Minister of Magic due to his stance on Muggles.
"Sirius Black", Liam said after scanning the book, turning to Sirius, who was discussing the recent Muggleworld trends with Hermione. "Is the information in this book still relevant? I mean, it's over 60 years old. Could there have been any changes in that time?"
"Part of it has changed", Sirius Black replied, stopping his conversation with Hermione and turning to Liam. "Some mines might have been depleted, but residences and plantations remain unchanged."
Seeing that Liam and Hermione were paying attention, Sirius Black cleared his throat and continued. "Over 60 years, some mines for Arcane Metals or Magicgemstones could have been exhausted, leading to their abandonment. However, residences and plantations remain constant."
He elaborated, "Take a Magical Garden, for example. It requires a substantial amount of magic power to sustain the growth of Magic Plants and meet their stringent environmental needs. Such locations are rare, and for many Wizardclans, the number of Magical Gardens they own is directly linked to their power. Therefore, they cannot be abandoned."
"As for residences, I think you've already seen it", Sirius Black said with a wry smile, spreading his hands. "Like the building we're in now, the magic here has been accumulated over generations. Even Voldemort couldn't break through the magic defenses here in a short time. The same goes for the manors of other Pureblood Families. These are our final fortresses and our last cards."
"Thus, compared to plantations, the Ancestral Manor is the true stronghold of a Pureblood Family. If they abandon their Ancestral Manor, they essentially exile themselves from the Pureblood circle. So, if the Pureblood Families listed in this book haven't vanished, their Ancestral Manors are likely still in their original locations."
"Sirius Black, why do most of the clans in this book not hide their addresses?" Hermione asked, flipping through a few pages. "I thought all Ancestral Manors were as hidden as this one."
"No, not at all", Sirius Black replied with a sarcastic smile. "In most cases, people like my grandfather, who always think others are out to get them, are the exception. Normal Wizards don't hide their Ancestral Manors. Some clans even welcome useful visitors and are proud to show off their estates. The most famous example is Malfoy Manor."
"Good to know", Hermione said, closing the book. "Can we make a copy of this book? We need this information for our next steps."
"If you need it, you can have the book", Sirius Black said generously. "It's of no use to me, and it would be great if it could help you."
