Chapter 675: How to Deal with the Loli Who Believes in You
"Eternal night... eternal night..."
"True freedom lies within the eternal darkness... Hahaha... I see now... Hahahaha... I understand..."
Jellal clutched his face, his expression contorting in pain as the magic unleashed by Ultear ate away at his mind, eventually twisting his features into a hideous mask as he broke into terrifying fits of laughter.
Seeing Jellal fall under the influence of her magic, a slight curve formed on Ultear's lips, and she offered a faint smile before reining in her magic. "Do your best," she murmured to herself, turning to leave Jellal's prison.
Soon, she found herself outside, gazing down at the island filled with prisons. After manipulating Jellal, her interest in the Tower of Heaven and the Dark Mage Guild had waned; she saw the R-System as little more than a toy.
But.
Just as she was about to quietly depart the island, a hand suddenly reached out from behind and grasped her wrist, which was supporting the magic ball.
Ultear's heart skipped a beat, and she instinctively raised her right hand to strike back. However, just as her right hand lifted, it, along with her left hand, was also seized.
Then.
She found herself lifted into the air like a kitten.
"It seems you've been up to no good."
Feng Ye appeared behind Ultear, grasping her wrists and hoisting her up as he looked down at her, his expression neutral.
The young girl had used his name to manipulate Jellal, and he couldn't help but feel a mix of exasperation and amusement, as if he had been framed for something he hadn't done.
Though startled by the sudden turn of events, Ultear managed to maintain her composure and, without hesitation, lifted her leg to deliver a powerful kick backward in an attempt to break free.
Bang!!
Her kick landed squarely, but it felt as if she had struck the hardest steel, sending a jolt of pain through her foot as if her bones were shattering.
"His!"
She sucked in a breath, her body stiffening momentarily as cold sweat drenched her. She felt her leg go numb from the impact.
Feng Ye regarded her impassively. "You're quite the disobedient one."
As he spoke, he brought Ultear's hands together and held them in one of his, lifting her as if she were a radish. He turned her to face him, then extended his right hand and pinched her cheeks, giving them a forceful rub.
"Ouch... ah..."
Ultear whimpered, her face contorting into a fierce expression as she bared her small, sharp teeth and bit down on Feng Ye's fingers.
Feng Ye didn't bother to pull away, allowing her to bite down, only to hear a metallic clink as if her teeth had struck steel.
The force of the bite nearly caused Ultear's teeth to crack, eliciting another pained cry from her.
"Ah... so hard..."
"Are you a stone person?!'
At the sight of Ultear's tearful expression, Feng Ye couldn't help but chuckle. "Then are you a cat? Cats bite, don't they?" he countered.
Buzz!!
Ultear gritted her teeth, her body emanating a surge of magic power. While it hadn't reached the level of an S-class Mage, it was still quite considerable.
The overflowing magic transformed into a cold force.
"Ice-Make: Freeze!"
Without hesitation, Ultear resorted to what she deemed the most effective magic in her current state after realizing that physical attacks were futile.
In an instant, ice spread from her body, encapsulating Feng Ye and freezing him within a block of ice.
But.
Before she could attempt to break free from Feng Ye's grasp, the ice that had entrapped him silently shattered and transformed into intricate frost flowers that fell to the ground.
"How is this possible..."
Ultear's eyes widened in shock as she witnessed this scene. The magic she had unleashed was meant to freeze, not turn into frost flowers! While it appeared that her ice magic had simply transformed into ice flowers and dissipated, the underlying concept was entirely different. It implied that Feng Ye had, in a split second, reverse-engineered her Ice-Make magic, taken complete control of it, and simultaneously modified it, transforming her Ice-Make magic into the form of ice flowers! Despite exhibiting minimal magical power, his manipulation of ice magic at this level gave her the impression of innate talent, far surpassing her own abilities!
Even.
She couldn't help but question—could her mother, Ul, reverse-engineer and rewrite her ice magic into a different form in an instant?
Before Ultear could react further, the shock in her eyes gradually turned into awe. She watched as the scattered ice flowers silently ignited, transforming into fiery blossoms that eventually vanished into the air.
"This..."
Ultear's eyes glazed over, her mind momentarily blank.
Ultear's eyes widened with shock, and as the shock faded, a hint of fear crept into her gaze as she looked at Feng Ye, realizing that her magical prowess was worlds apart from his.
Even if she used the incomplete Lost Magic, 'Arc of Time,' she doubted it would be enough to escape her current predicament. This man was far beyond anything the Dark Mage Guild could contend with!
"Looks like you've finally calmed down."
Feng Ye observed Ultear's demeanor, stroking his chin thoughtfully. "Now, what should I do with you?"
How should he deal with a young girl who had been impersonating him? It was a tricky situation. She was only twelve years old, so beating her up seemed too harsh. Taking her into custody for some proper discipline... no, education would probably feel more like a reward than a punishment for her.
He hadn't even planned to personally mentor Elsa in the same way he had with Mebis.
Feng Ye pondered the situation, finding it peculiar that no matter how he chose to handle this believer, it would likely be a boon for her.
Ultear's chest heaved as she forced herself to calm down. Looking at Feng Ye, she inhaled sharply and said, "I am... a mage of the Eternano Church. Even if you are strong, you wouldn't want to make an enemy of us, would you? Just let me go now."
"Eternano Church..."
Feng Ye's expression turned even more peculiar when Ultear mentioned the name of her guild.
Noticing his reaction, Ultear felt a twinge of panic as she failed to detect any hint of concession or fear in his eyes.
Apparently, the reputation of the Eternano Church didn't intimidate him!
After a moment's thought, Feng Ye set Ultear down, then raised his finger and pointed it at her. A surge of magic transformed into a rope that bound her in place.
"There, that should do it."
With Ultear restrained, Feng Ye lifted his finger and pointed it at her, his fingertip glowing with a golden light. He gently waved his finger up, down, left, and right a few times.
The golden light rippled in the air, silently falling onto Ultear and merging into her body before disappearing without a trace.
"Wh-what did you do to me?!"
Ultear's eyes widened in horror as she sensed her own body, but she couldn't detect anything amiss, which only served to fill her with a deeper, unknown fear.
Not knowing what Feng Ye had done to her was far more terrifying.
"Nothing much," Feng Ye replied with a casual laugh as he lowered his finger. "I just left a mark on you. I can't very well let you off scot-free after all your shenanigans as a dark guild mage, especially now that I'm a member of a legal guild."
Ultear asked, her voice laced with suspicion and confusion, "A mark?"
"Mhm."
Feng Ye waved his hand, releasing Ultear from her bindings. "No need to look for it. It's on your neck. You're free to go now."
Ultear stiffened for a moment, then slowly raised her hand and reached for her neck, but she felt nothing.
Swish! Swish!!!
Without hesitation, she began to back away quickly, feeling an overwhelming sense of crisis from standing before Feng Ye.
She continued retreating until she reached the edge of the Tower of Heaven, leaping off the cliff and landing on a rocky outcropping by the sea. Only when she saw that Feng Ye wasn't pursuing her did she let out a slight sigh of relief.
However.
Her tension quickly returned, and she reached out to pick up her crystal ball, gazing into it.
The crystal ball reflected her own image, and upon closer inspection, she could just make out a tiny mark on the left side of her neck.
"..."
Ultear's expression froze, and she immediately channeled her magic, attempting to erase the mark. But to her dismay, no matter how much magical force she applied, the mark refused to budge.
If she observed carefully, she could sense that the mark was composed of an incredibly complex and powerful array of runes, far beyond her ability to erase with brute force.
"Damn it..."
Ultear covered her neck with her small hand, her face twisting in shame and anger as she glared in the direction of where Feng Ye had been. "You damn mage, I won't forget this!"
How dare he do such a thing to her! It was unforgivable! Though she knew nothing about him so far, she had seen a symbol on the back of his hand when they made contact, which must have been the mark of a guild.
Feng Ye was likely not a member of the Dark Mage Guild; he was probably from one of the legal guilds and had stumbled upon the Tower of Heaven.
"I'll find you again..."
Ultear gritted her teeth and vowed, her hand still covering her neck as she jumped off the rocky outcropping and into a small boat moored beside it. With a surge of magic, she steered the boat away at high speed.
