Chapter 673: Warning
Chapter 673: Warning
Under the starlit sky, a small hill near the French Port of Calais was eerily quiet, with only the rustling of the wind through the bushes breaking the silence. Suddenly, a patch of ground with grass on it was lifted, and a tall figure emerged from beneath in a rather awkward stance. After looking around for a moment, he shouted in heavily accented English, “Brothers, there’s no one here! Hurry up and come out!”
As soon as he finished speaking, a dozen Black Shadows emerged one after another. Once everyone was out, the small, wiry leader waved his wand to seal the exit they had just used. “Let’s head to London to find the Dark Lord. Then we’ll investigate who dared to attack us.”
“Right, we must—” Before the Dark Wizards could finish their sentences, there was a rustling in the grass. They immediately turned their wands in that direction, but before they could cast any spells, a sound like nails on a chalkboard filled the air, and they knew nothing more.
After the 12 Dark Wizards had all collapsed, gunshots rang out from the grass. Each shot caused a bloom of blood to erupt from a head. Once it was confirmed that all 12 were dead, a figure emerged from the grass. At the same time, the sound of hurried footsteps approached from a distance.
“Liam, you’re here.” Through their soul connection, Hermione knew it was Ryan and the others without turning around. “I’ve cleared the area. Although we can’t bring the innocent victims back to life, we’ve at least ensured that their killers received their due punishment.”
“These Dark Wizards are all dead,” Gill said after checking the bodies on the ground. “They don’t seem to have any external injuries, as if—like they lost their souls all at once.”
“Siren’s Cry, a new spell I learned in Silvermoon City.” Hermione replied, her face slowly regaining its color. “At my current level, using this spell twice in succession is still a bit of a stretch. I used it twice just to be safe, but once would have been enough.”
“It’s fine. Combat experience comes with practice.” Liam kissed Hermione after speaking and then took out the golden plate to summon the reconnaissance orbs he had previously released.
Two minutes later, all the Scouting Orbs were back. After Gill cleared away any traces of their actions around the manor and their current location, Rose Crystal stepped forward to open a portal and dispose of the bodies.
“We should leave now. I think the French Ministry of Magic might be on their way,” Liam said to Hermione, watching the green flames rise before them. “We’re not afraid of them, but it would be awkward to run into them in this situation.”
“Okay,” Hermione nodded and extended her hand. Liam took it, and they Apparated back to their manor. A few seconds later, Rose Crystal and Gill followed through the Multiverse General Store as a portal.
“You should go rest. Using Siren’s Cry twice today has put a strain on your soul. You need plenty of sleep to recover,” Liam told Hermione. “Rose Crystal and I will handle the rest. Gill can stay here with you.”
“Alright, I’ll go to bed then. Good luck with everything tonight.” Hermione yawned and turned, her steps heavy as she headed upstairs to her bedroom. Gill turned on the TV and lounged on the couch.
“Alright, I’m leaving with your uncle to take care of some business. You stay here and protect your aunt,” Rose Crystal said, hovering in the air to Gill, who was lying on the couch.
“Don’t worry, Mother and Uncle. I’ll protect Aunt Hermione. Leave the house to me, and I wish you both success in your mission,” Gill said earnestly.
After bidding Gill farewell, Liam and Hermione Apparated to the small alley outside the London Ministry of Magic. The alley was as empty as it had been the last time they visited, with only two trash bins standing there. Most of the streetlights were broken, and the lone functioning one flickered on and off every few seconds, creating a ghostly atmosphere.
"There's not even a patrol around. They're way too lax", Rose Crystal said, scanning the empty street. "I thought they would have been more vigilant after our last attack."
"They haven't let their guard down completely", Liam replied, making a few gestures. Soon, several colored lights appeared in the air in front of them. "There are quite a few defensive spells set up here. They just haven't dispatched personnel for safety reasons."
"Of course", Rose Crystal nodded, a hint of pride in her voice. "We were able to fight our way out of the Ministry of Magic last time, which means that a few patrol members would just be sending themselves to their deaths when we attack. Maintaining a high-level team on constant patrol is beyond the London Ministry of Magic's capacity."
"Regular patrols wouldn't stand a chance against a Wizard of my caliber, either. Under normal circumstances, a Wizard of my level would have their own faction and wouldn't directly involve themselves in the war due to concerns about collateral damage."
"But I'm an exception. Compared to the Dark Lord or Professor Dumbledore, I'm much younger, and my power has grown beyond what most people can imagine. I come from a family with no ties to the Magic World. So, even at my current strength, I don't have any organization or faction that could be targeted as a weakness."
As Liam spoke, he didn't stop moving his hands, performing intricate gestures that released a Pink Glow from his palms into the air. Soon, Rose Crystal saw all the colored light specks in the air turn pink.
"Alright, we can get started now", Liam said once all the light specks had turned pink. "But we should move quickly. There's a lot to do, and I'm eager to get back to bed."
Ryan and the others soon emerged from their hiding spot. Liam retrieved the 12 Dark Wizard corpses, placed nooses around their necks, and Rose Crystal pulled the other end of the ropes to hang them on each of the streetlight poles. Soon, every streetlight pole in the alley was adorned with a dead Dark Wizard.
"This is the final step", Liam said, satisfied, after Rose Crystal hung the last one. He then pulled two signs from his Spatial Bag and hung them at the entrance of the alley. One sign, written in black ink, read: "The people hung here are the criminals responsible for the Poca Village massacre. They have received their just punishment." The other sign, written in red ink, read: "This is only the beginning."
"Alright, let's get out of here", Liam said after setting up enough Non-lethal Magic Traps under each streetlight pole. "I wonder what the Ministry of Magic staff will think when they see this tomorrow."
"They won't be happy", Rose Crystal said, flying down from the streetlight pole and taking Liam's hand. "Let's go back. Gill can't stay up too late watching TV, and I need to get her to bed."
Liam looked at Rose Crystal, who had taken on a maternal expression, unsure of what to make of it. It seemed that having a daughter had changed her quite a bit, making her more human in her emotions.
