Chapter 673: Returning to Adventure
Chapter 673: Returning to Adventure
The army of the Forest Capital embarked on an expedition from the eastern part of the world, heading west.
These well-trained soldiers joined the grand battle against the Deviators and the Green Marsh.
The Western battlefield, as it stands now, is the final stage that will determine the world's fate.
However, amidst all this fervor, Lin Sai's figure was not at the frontlines commanding the troops or leading the charge, nor was he in the city strategizing and overseeing development.
Instead, he had returned to his previous life as an adventurer.
Carrying his shop and equipped with supplies for the journey, Lin Sai set out for the first time on the road to the southern part of the Barren World.
There was only one purpose for this trip.
To find the life-filled object in the Green Marsh and use it to repair the damaged world connection.
Lin Sai could contribute his strength to help the ordinary people in distress and even stay there.
But he hadn't forgotten his initial purpose.
With the great battle underway, the main forces of the three factions were not stationed at their headquarters.
To obtain the treasure safely and discreetly, this was undoubtedly the most opportune time.
Infiltrating the enemy's headquarters was not a task for the weak, so Lin Sai resumed his role as an adventurer, determined to accomplish his goal through his own strength.
On an evening during the war, Lin Sai traversed a dry, desolate sea of sand.
He glanced at the Strategic Map and realized he was only one or two days away from the Green Marsh.
The already arid Barren Land became even drier here.
It was as if the last bit of moisture in the air had been violently extracted, leaving none behind.
"Is this the secret to the Green Marsh maintaining its normal environment?"
Lin Sai shook his head slightly and stretched lazily.
He simply switched his equipment and modules, and the Builder's Hand created a pit beside him out of thin air. Lin Sai poured clear water into it, instantly creating an Infinite Water Pool.
The water source for cleaning and cooking tonight was right before his eyes.
"As expected, the life of an adventurer suits me best."
"Managing a territory and guiding development, these things just make my head spin!"
Lin Sai sighed inwardly, as he often did.
Just then, a voice sounded behind him:
"Exactly! I think so too!"
"My hero should indeed embark on adventures. Developing territories is not for you, even though it's not bad."
"..."
Lin Sai turned around and saw Xilude, smiling brightly.
Indeed.
This time, Lin Sai was not alone; the writer girl accompanied him.
Awakeners like Alice and Levi were sent to the frontlines by Lin Sai to ensure victory in the war.
Only the writer girl refused to cooperate.
Xilude didn't want to stay in the Forest Capital's library or accompany the army to predict the war's outcome; instead, she insisted on following Lin Sai.
Xilude's determination was absolute, willing to go to any lengths.
At this moment, following Lin Sai, she wasn't in her familiar wheelchair but was standing directly behind him.
This wasn't because Xilude had resolved the backlash from her physical condition.
In the underground city's Cursed Library, she had also learned dark magic. To accompany Lin Sai, she cast Puppet Control on herself.
This girl wasn't concerned about her body being affected by dark magic; instead, she forcefully achieved her goal of walking with her legs through manipulation.
Lin Sai shook his head slightly.
He didn't pay attention to the writer girl but started a fire and prepared the ingredients for tonight's dinner.
Heidi approached, aware that they weren't far from their destination. She asked, "Lindsey, of the rewards in your Task Bar, are there any that can deal with a Seventh Stage Awakener?"
The writer girl elaborated with an example: "Just like in the Black Mountains, using a critical weapon to deliver a fatal blow at the last moment, slaying the evil dragon in one strike!"
Lindsey paused from chopping vegetables and rolled her eyes at Heidi. "How much of my destiny did you really see during the Seven Seas Alliance?"
Heidi feigned innocence, blinking innocently. "Oh..."
"Didn't I tell you? I can't see beyond the Hidden Fringe's history; it's as if those events never happened."
Lindsey spoke calmly, "I'm asking about after that."
Heidi's gaze shifted to the ingredients Lindsey was preparing. She picked up a cabbage leaf, chewing it with a 'crunch, crunch' sound before swallowing. Her mouth twisted with complexity as she spoke, "I like to savor my food, chewing slowly and enjoying the texture and taste of each ingredient before swallowing and digesting it properly."
Lindsey sighed internally. This girl...
But he didn't get angry; he knew exactly what kind of person Heidi was.
She had probably seen everything she shouldn't have.
Observing Heidi, Lindsey spoke with a subtle tone, "I do have some insights and plenty of ideas for dealing with a Seventh Stage Awakener."
Cold sweat trickled down Heidi's face.
Lindsey continued, "Come on, we're almost there. What's your real purpose for coming along this time?"
Lindsey's tone was serious.
Heidi's expression turned solemn. "The story has reached its climax, and this time, I don't want to be just a spectator."
"I've always written destiny with my pen, documenting everything without judgment. But this time..."
Heidi suddenly lowered her head, her usually clear and dramatic tone softening.
"I want to try being a part of the story, too."
As soon as she finished, the writer girl began to shake her head self-mockingly.
"But how could that be possible?"
"Being a companion to a hero is already a distant hope in my eyes."
At that moment, Lindsey finished preparing a bowl of soup.
He looked at Heidi's conflicted face and remembered that she was his only companion on this journey.
Lindsey handed the stone bowl containing their dinner to Heidi:
"You're talking as if helping build the city was a lie."
Heidi's head snapped up.
Instead of taking the bowl, she stared directly into Lindsey's eyes, her crimson irises seemingly expecting something.
Lindsey didn't give the response she wanted.
Seeing that Heidi didn't take the food, he placed the stone bowl on the sandy ground in front of her.
Lindsey's expression returned to its usual state.
He began preparing his dinner, adding two extra pieces of pork:
"Heidi, these things can't be offset. I don't have the right to forgive your actions."
"You reap what you sow. It's your own doing."
