Chapter 673: Discovery
Chapter 673: Discovery
A few minutes later, Chen Chuan opened his eyes, and his spirit detached from the lost item, with a flash of light in his eyes that flickered for a moment before gradually fading.
After merging with his second self, the strength he displayed did not quite double, but the increase in speed and power brought about the most noticeable change. This time, he easily defeated an opponent who he had previously considered extremely dangerous.
He lifted the Snow Lady Sword, feeling a slight vibration in the blade, indicating that it had gained significant benefits. This proved that the path he had chosen was correct, but it was also an extremely dangerous one. Each time, the opponents he faced would become increasingly powerful, and a single failure could mean death.
After merging with his second self, he did enhance his strength, but there was a limit to it. The strength of the opponent across from him still seemed limitless, so he had to carefully measure and grasp the situation. He estimated that, at his current strength, he could probably handle three or four more encounters.
However, as he continued to cultivate, his spiritual power could still be strengthened, so it wasn't impossible to seek further breakthroughs.
At this moment, he took a few steps back, slightly raised his sword, and then slashed downward, creating a rift shimmering with light in an instant.
Compared to before, he had become adept at opening rifts, and the rift itself appeared stable. He had also gained some experience, realizing that the rift didn't need to be too long, and a slightly wider one was better for cultivation. The current size was just right for him to sit and cultivate.
This might allow more things to seep through from the other side, but perhaps because the rift was relatively small and not permanent, most of what appeared were insects he had encountered before, with a few unidentifiable objects. So far, he hadn't encountered anything too threatening.
He placed the Snow Lady Sword on the ground and sat down in front of the rift, adjusting his breathing to face the rushing airflow and light from within. Using the Spirit Illumination Technique, he guided his essence and refined his spirit.
Initially, this rift could only exist for about an hour, but with his efforts, it had now lasted for nearly two hours.
Soon, two hours passed, and the rift stubbornly remained. This time, the Snow Lady Sword had clearly gained significant assistance, adding over twenty minutes to its previous duration.
However, he was well aware that it would become more difficult as time went on, and even in the best-case scenario, it was unlikely to exceed four hours.
But this was already sufficient. In reality, even if the rift lasted longer, the creatures from the other side might become more troublesome and challenging to deal with. Unlike the rifts of the single-school cultivators, which were maintained by their elders, he had to handle everything himself, which could waste more time.
As the rift slowly disappeared before his eyes, he stood up from the ground, feeling an unusually sharp spirit and sensing strange sounds and phenomena in the surroundings. But with a quick glance, he suppressed them.
This was an inevitable influence of his spiritual advancement.
The spirit was carried by the physical body, and its growth was inseparable from the transformation of the brain's organisms, which, in turn, relied on the overall growth of the body.
He had previously laid a solid and stable foundation, allowing him to make continuous progress. Otherwise, even with abundant resources, it would be difficult to continue. His foundation, far surpassing that of ordinary people, also meant that the upper limit of his spiritual power was high, and some problems that others had never encountered might arise for him.
He was very mindful of this aspect, and with his second self, he could handle some things not mentioned in the records.
Just as the rift in front of him was about to dissipate, a light knock came from outside the door. He looked over and saw a paper telegram being slipped through the door crack.
He walked over, picked up the telegram, and read it. The message informed him that Huang Weiyi was looking for him, without specifying the reason. But he knew that it must be related to the investigation by Unifying Heavy Control.
He immediately put away the telegram and organized his surroundings. Fortunately, no strange insects appeared, so he didn't need to clean up much.
After about ten minutes, the airship turned around and headed back to the Central City. As they passed by the port, he looked down and saw two Far Mountain-class battleships and a Snow Plain-class warship from the Linax Federation docked there after the sea fog had dispersed.
There were likely some powerful fighters on board, and as he looked over, he felt several pairs of eyes gazing back at him.
He glanced outside and saw several airships flying between the White Bird District and the Central City, but he didn't spot the airship carrying the Linax Federation fighter. That fighter was probably staying on a nearby offshore island.
At this moment, he had entered the Field Domain and put on his World Credential again. He contacted Huang Weiyi, who immediately responded: "Greetings, Chen Director."
Chen Chuan asked, "Mr. Huang, have you received any news from your side?"
"Yes, Manager Chen," Huang Weiyi replied, "I wouldn't dare disturb you without any news, as per your instructions." Huang Weiyi had realized during their previous conversation that Chen Chuan disliked small talk, so he got straight to the point.
"It's like this," he continued, "following your directions, we found three suspicious individuals at the intersection of Hongsheng and Shen Wei districts, very similar to what you described. The location is here..."
As he spoke, he sent over the location information.
Chen Chuan took a quick look. The place was not too far from Lu Fang's combat arena; it was about five or six kilometers northwest.
This location was also within a gathering area for many stateless individuals. From its position, it seemed to be right in the center of various gathering areas. Furthermore, based on his memory, he recalled that there should be an entrance leading to the lower city district within a few hundred meters of this location, making it very convenient for both entering and retreating.
After reviewing the information, Chen Chuan asked, "Did you only find this one place?"
Huang Wei rushed to respond, "Currently, we've only found this one location with the suspicious individuals you described. We're still investigating other areas, but we didn't want to delay your matter, Mr. Chen, so I came to inform you as soon as we had a lead."
Chen Chuan thought it unlikely that Unifying Heavy Control would concentrate all their assigned personnel in one place, but he was impressed that Huang Wei had managed to locate these individuals in such a short time—a testament to his abilities.
"Is there anything else?" Chen Chuan asked.
"Yes," Huang Wei replied, "I have some pictures for you to look at, Manager Chen." As he spoke, he sent over a dozen pictures.
Chen Chuan glanced at the first picture, which showed a man with a malicious gaze peering out from behind a window. His face was partially hidden by the curtain, but one could still make out his slender features, a hint of a powerful physique, and the distinctive aura of a fighter.
The second picture was of a different person, a sturdier man with thick limbs. He wore a customized heavy-duty vest with matte-finished metal buckles, indicating that these individuals were not from the lower city district and had a notable background.
The third picture featured a woman with a robust build, even more so than the previous two individuals, and at least a head taller. She had short, stubbly hair, and her gender was only discernible from her skeletal structure.
There were ten more pictures, all showing these individuals moving around. From these images alone, Chen Chuan could roughly deduce their movement rhythms and individual fighting specialties.
"How did you obtain these pictures?" he asked.
It was evident to Chen Chuan that the pictures depicted postures from different time periods. Ordinary people could not have conducted surveillance on these individuals; even a brief glance would have aroused their suspicion, let alone long-term monitoring.
Huang Wei quickly explained, "I have a brother who can, in an instant, capture everything within a three-kilometer field of vision and imprint it in his mind."
He was an exceptional artist, able to draw what he saw with near-photographic accuracy, not missing a single detail.
But that wasn't all; for a few seconds after seeing someone, he could also recreate their actions in his mind and depict them on paper.
Chen Chuan was surprised, recognizing this as an extremely rare psychic talent. He looked at the pictures again, realizing that some of them were likely self-constructed.
Such a skill couldn't be faked, especially when it came to the fine details and the distinctive action rhythms of fighters, which couldn't be easily imitated.
This ability would be incredibly useful for surveillance.
"Are you still watching them?" Chen Chuan asked.
"Yes, we're still keeping an eye on them," Huang Wei replied.
"Then keep watching," Chen Chuan said calmly. "They've probably noticed you, and if you suddenly stop, they might think you're preparing to make a move."
"They've noticed us?" Huang Wei exclaimed in surprise.
"They're not ordinary people," Chen Chuan stated.
If these individuals also possessed psychic powers, they might sense someone repeatedly observing them, even from a distance.
"This..." Huang Wei's heart raced with shock, and he felt a chill run down his spine.
He hadn't considered the possibility of being exposed, but he knew Chen Chuan wouldn't deceive him about this.
Huang Wei was well aware that the Processing Bureau was dealing with no ordinary individuals, as evidenced by the pictures. He had been to the vicinity himself, and if those people had suddenly attacked...
Chen Chuan spoke calmly, "Don't panic. Just act as you normally would. They haven't made a move yet, probably because they're trying to confirm the origin of the surveillance or don't consider you a threat. Either way, just maintain your current state, and I'll be there soon."
