Chapter 672: Is This Country Unfit to Be Your Master?
Chapter 672: Is This Country Unfit to Be Your Master?
David understood history all too well. This was the ancestral decree of the Pansha clan—since childhood, he'd known the tragic past of Pansha.
Eight centuries ago, the Donquixote Family rose to become world nobles, abandoning and betraying their sworn vassals—the Pansha clan.
When Donquixote, the divinely appointed king of Dressrosa, ascended the throne, he swore never to abandon Dressrosa. Pansha pledged eternal loyalty in return.
But Donquixote left for Mariejois, forsaking both Dressrosa and Pansha, breaking their sacred oath.
That betrayal shattered Pansha's sword arm forever.
This bitter truth had been passed down through generations. Since childhood, David had been told he could never wield a blade.
No matter how his "father" hailed him as the strongest Pansha genius in eight centuries, he would never hold a sword.
His life seemed destined to end as a pig farmer, marrying some woman to preserve this wretched tradition.
So what was this now?
These people—those who'd mocked him and his family for generations, turning cruelty into tradition—were suddenly claiming it was to "force his Awakening"?
This—
"This is ridiculous!" David clenched his teeth, shouting. "The Pansha oath remains unbroken! The Pansha family has no followers—since that ancient battle's defeat, we've had nothing left to follow!"
Eight hundred years ago, Donquixote ordered the war that ravaged the nation. Pansha refused to harm civilians, accepted defeat, and disbanded their remaining followers.
Now, there were no followers left.
Grandma smiled gently. "That past no longer matters. You've Awakened—you can wield a sword now. Donquixote betrayed us, not you betraying them. Those who break promises deserve no loyalty."
Her finger twitched toward her own temple. "Our duty is complete. You're free—free to do as you wish."
"Yes, you're free."
Walis's father smiled too. "But our sins cannot be forgiven. We're no longer Pansha's followers—everything we did was self-imposed. Our crime demands self-judgment."
"But forgiveness exists."
A voice interrupted. Everyone turned to see Moer approaching casually. "Forgiveness exists—for instance, if commanded by Dressrosa's king."
"Navy?"
Grandma frowned. "This doesn't concern you. The Riku family lacks authority to forgive us. The only family we recognize lost that power centuries ago."
Pansha could never forgive them—the clan had disbanded all followers eight hundred years ago. Their 'tradition' was self-imposed. Now that David had Awakened, their mission ended.
Their sins could only end with self-execution.
"You again?"
David narrowed his eyes. "You haven't left yet?"
"Ah, just came back, uncle", Moer raised his empty hands. "Delivered the person, then returned."
"I heard your whole story. Not everything makes sense, but forgiveness is possible. Are they Pansha's masters? Former masters? Doesn't matter. If he becomes king, won't that solve everything?"
Moer pointed at David. "Our Vice Admiral certainly approves."
...
Inside the Navy Base tent.
"A noble ordered you to kill David?"
Kuro narrowed his eyes at the battered burly man—the one Moer had dragged back.
"I had no choice—I was just following orders!" the trembling man pleaded.
Golden Lion's reputation preceded him. Trapped in this Navy stronghold, escape never crossed the man's mind.
"Now that I've told everything, you'll let me go, right?" he asked cautiously.
"Drag him out. Bury him somewhere." Kuro waved. Marines hauled the man away.
Then Kuro glared at Lucci's trio. "You've done well conspiring behind my back! Still haven't decided yet, and you've already started colluding. Where's your accomplice?"
The answer was obvious—only CP0 could've leaked his decision.
"I knew nothing." Lucci glanced outside. The masked man with dual-colored eyes had vanished. "They're not my subordinates. But if I find him, he'll pay."
"You're this afraid of Pansha? This insignificant? Then I'll make him king specifically to defy you!" Kuro growled.
Donquixote Doflamingo's expression darkened. "Insulting the Donquixote family! The world nobles will destroy you, Kuro!"
Kuro scoffed. "Let the old men try demoting me. Until then, stop whining."
Whoosh!
A white streak flashed. Moer reappeared with David.
"Brought him here", Moer announced.
"Hmm, his aura's different", Kuro observed.
"His neighbors were so desperate they tried suicide to make him Awaken", Moer summarized briefly.
Kuro listened, stunned.
What in the world?
An eight-century-old grudge still festering?
Mocking him generation after generation—just to provoke his rage, force him to lift his sword again?
This method—
Where had he seen this before?
"Seriously, these people had no other options left?" Kuro frowned. "Why force such extremism into this era?"
As someone from another life, he couldn't accept this mindset.
But in this world, extremism seemed common.
"Even I can't understand, uncle", Moer scratched his head. "If he doesn't become king, they'll probably kill themselves."
"Then be king", Kuro told David. "You're chosen."
"No."
David shook his head. "Navy Lord, absolutely not. I cannot be king."
"Hesitant to rule?" Kuro raised an eyebrow. "Others fight for power. You refuse?"
"Kshhhkshhkshh—Pansha isn't even human", Donquixote Doflamingo sneered. "Just stray dogs without masters, clinging to obsolete oaths! They lack the capacity for kingship—no ambition, no future!"
David lowered his head in silence.
True. They could never be kings. They were mere knights—without a master, they lost their qualification to wield swords.
To this world, perhaps incomprehensible.
But that was their way.
Humans were different.
"Master." Kuro stroked his chin, staring at David. "Is this country truly unfit to be your master?"
