Chapter 671: The Diplomatic Corps
Chapter 671: The Diplomatic Corps
Fang Zhixin had just realized the sheer number of enemies that had arrived, and he was prepared to fight to the death, determined not to let them capture him alive.
However, before these enemies could surround him, over ninety percent of the combat personnel lost their fighting ability on the spot under the impact of Chen Chuan's mental power.
Chen Chuan's battle with the remaining few was not witnessed by Fang Zhixin, but he could tell from the sounds that the fight was over within three or four rounds.
The entire incident lasted no more than three or four minutes.
What surprised Fang Zhixin the most was the astonishing momentum when Chen Chuan launched his attack, which seemed to have improved his strength far beyond his previous fight with Teacher Chen.
Fang Zhixin was amazed and his previous thoughts were reinforced. He spoke solemnly, "Captain Chen, I was just thinking, there is indeed a map of the Convergence Zone, and it's very detailed."
"I overheard that those who once contributed to the teacher's plan might also want these materials, but the teacher didn't give them to them."
Chen Chuan had already guessed that there was someone backing Chen Bitong's actions, but he couldn't figure out their identity. He asked, "Who are those who helped Teacher Chen?"
Fang Zhixin's expression became complicated. "It's not that I don't want to tell you, but the teacher never mentioned it to me. I guess he didn't want me to get entangled with those people."
Chen Chuan's gaze deepened. There were many forces in Jinbei Province Central City, and the School's power held a significant position. However, Chen Bitong clearly hadn't joined the School, and based on his actions and principles, it was unlikely that he would cooperate with the Fusion School or the Mastery School.
However, there was one organization that was very likely to provide him with assistance and could also explain why Chen Bitong didn't want Fang Zhixin to interact with them.
Of course, this was just his speculation, and he had no proof yet. He could try to verify it later.
After some thought, he asked, "Did Teacher Chen ever submit these materials to the government before?"
Fang Zhixin replied, "Teacher Chen submitted it once a long time ago, back when he was with the Exploration Team. But the Convergence Zone in Jinbei Province is vast, and there might be significant changes over a few years."
"Later, the teacher examined some of the materials and reports submitted by the Exploration Team's successors and found many errors and discrepancies. The teacher said it was due to insufficient mental power and misjudgments during the invasion. So, for the past few years, the teacher has been organizing, summarizing, and trying to verify them again."
"In the past, the teacher would gradually submit some verified materials every year, but in recent years, he hasn't submitted even a single report."
Chen Chuan pondered, suspecting that Chen Bitong might have started preparing for that plan back then.
Fang Zhixin continued, "Now that I think about it, it's not just these foreigners. Those who captured me before might have also been after these materials."
Chen Chuan asked, "Do you know who they are?"
"It's hard to say. At first, I thought they were people who contacted the teacher and came to rescue me, thinking it might be the teacher's arrangement. But later, it didn't seem like that, and I wondered if they were the Temporary Special Action Committee staging a self-directed play. But then, it didn't seem to fit either..."
Fang Zhixin shook his head. "No matter who they are, I won't do as they wish." He raised his head and looked at Chen Chuan, "Captain Chen, I can only give these materials to you. I trust you, and if the teacher is still alive, he would never let the Union take away his legacy."
As he spoke, he moved closer and used his energy to speak a few words.
After listening, Chen Chuan nodded and asked, "Assistant Fang, where do you plan to go next?"
Although Fang Zhixin was no longer wanted, if he appeared publicly, the Temporary Special Action Committee might come after him, and the Union might not give up either. There might also be an unknown force that would be alerted.
"I've been thinking, and I plan to go to the Convergence Zone. I want to find my comrades there."
Those retired gunmen who had followed Chen Bitong before were already sent back to the combat front in the Convergence Zone, even though they hadn't been dealt with. If it weren't for finding out about their whereabouts, Fang Zhixin might have already left this place when he escaped.
"Do you have a way to get there?" asked Chen Chuan.
"I do, Captain Chen. I know a few people there," replied Fang Zhixin.
Chen Chuan acknowledged. The control from the Convergence Zone to Central City was relatively strict, but the other way around was more relaxed, especially for criminals. They might be allowed to go to the Convergence Zone directly because they would have to rely on the military barracks once they arrived.
If someone was alone in the wilderness, they probably wouldn't survive even a night. If they approached the barracks, they would either be captured or sent directly to the front line as cannon fodder.
He watched as Fang Zhixin spoke, "If you encounter any difficulties, feel free to contact me again. In the convergence zone, many things are governed by a different set of rules."
Fang Zhixin nodded in agreement, then took a step back and saluted Chen Chuan. "Thank you, Captain Chen. I won't trouble you further. I'll be taking my leave now. Also, I'd appreciate it if you could take good care of Xiaojin."
Chen Chuan replied, "I will." After a brief pause, he added, "Assistant Fang, please wait a moment."
He exited the room and returned a while later, carrying a medical kit from the Investigation Bureau. "You're injured. Take this with you. I've already informed the people outside, and no one will stop you."
Fang Zhixin accepted the kind offer with another firm nod and saluted once more before leaving with the medical kit. Soon, he disappeared into the darkness of the night.
After Fang Zhixin's departure, Chen Chuan emerged from the room. Yuan Qiuyuan was waiting outside and saluted, saying, "Captain, all the suspects have been captured, and none have escaped from the scene."
Chen Chuan nodded and proceeded towards the awaiting official vehicle. A duty soldier opened the car door for him, and after he got in, he tapped his world credential and instructed, "Dismiss the team."
The vehicle slowly started, and the Investigation Bureau's security forces and the city's security teams began to withdraw. The combat creatures in the field domain were also guided back to their original areas.
Chen Chuan looked up and saw that the airship had already flown far away. As the target was relatively large, he left it to the bureau to handle. As for the data, he didn't plan to retrieve it immediately.
Those people knew that he had just met with Fang Zhixin, and they would surely keep an eye on him in the coming days. He decided to wait a few days before taking action.
The convoy returned to the Investigation Bureau, and all the captured personnel were detained and immediately subjected to interrogation and screening.
Meanwhile, Chen Chuan returned to his office to await the results, reviewing some of the documents. About half an hour later, the results came in.
In the 6th month of the 19th year of the reign of Emperor Wu, the first edition of the book was published without any errors!
The head of the interrogation department personally delivered the interrogation report to Chen Chuan.
"Director Chen, according to the investigation, all the suspects are from a company called 'Luxing,' which was hired by a commissioner from abroad."
"A commissioner company?"
"Yes, this commissioner company was established less than three years ago, but there have been significant financial transactions with unclear destinations. Furthermore, all the upper management of the company is currently in the central city, and we need to issue a special summons for interrogation."
"There's no need for that," Chen Chuan replied. "Just follow the standard procedure."
He was well aware that the company was backed by the Union, but they were cautious and didn't act directly. Instead, they operated through the commissioner company, making it difficult to trace the transactions back to them.
Chen Chuan glanced at the documents, which matched the information provided by An Dun. All the fighters were from Thragado, a distant land. It was unlikely that mercenaries could have traveled there in such a short time, so the Union must have made thorough preparations during the three months following the split of the mother body.
As he was thinking about this, a notification sound suddenly came from his world credential, followed by An Dun's voice, "Director Chen, the Linax Federation's diplomatic team has arrived at the port. The bureau currently needs to allocate more field domain resources, and we are temporarily unable to provide surveillance services in the direction of Liangwei HeavyDrive. Please understand."
Chen Chuan's eyes flickered slightly. Had the Linax Federation arrived?
He immediately tapped the field domain screen in his office, and after a while, a beam of light illuminated the room, flickering at first before gradually becoming clearer.
What was displayed was the situation at the Ji Yang District port. In the distance, several large battleships could be seen docked.
Unlike the Union, the Linax Federation had arrived on a long-range escort fleet. According to prior notification, the main ship of the delegation was accompanied by six battleships, three of which would dock at the Ji Yang District port, while the other three would remain at other ports.
As this was an official diplomatic team, the Government Hall and the City Council had both sent representatives to greet them, including Wen Manager from the Investigation Bureau. The port was filled with security personnel, armed soldiers, and armored vehicles blocking the main passageways.
The diplomatic team was originally scheduled to arrive in the afternoon, but they seemed to be running a bit late. It was already past ten in the evening, but the port was still brightly lit.
As Chen Chuan watched, he saw a wide gangplank being lowered from the main ship's accompanying transport boat. Several armored transport vehicles from the Linax Beast Company emerged and formed two solid walls of protection on either side.
Then, heavy footsteps could be heard, and from the shadows, towering figures over four meters tall began to emerge.
